I wonder how hard it will be to bring the new eastern government types to Europe. Like, establish a Mandala government in Rome or a Chinese meritocracy in the HRE.

I think it may depend very heavily on how Mandala interacts with other types of government. I mean, we know that it has tributaries, and they get Tributary Missions - but I am not sure how it works if you would try to make a Feudal realm your tributary.

They also might end up being culture or religion restricted.

My thoughts go not to exporting those government forms, but to how well they would mix with other stuff. For example, could I make a Christian god-emperor rule a celestial government in China?

And before someone says "absurd combination!", no, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom - albeit from later centuries - was just that: a Chinese man declaring himself the actual brother of Jesus Christ, before kicking off one of the bloodiest wars in human history.

While I'm not that eager for the war and the huge pile of dead, I would be interested in mixing and matching different elements. Do god-emperors have to be strictly Buddhist? Can you use Japanese House Aspirations in say an administrative Persia? Can you export the tributary system of China to the Byzantines, where the tributaries do their tribute missions to Constantinople? Can China become Asatru and still function normally?

But I guess we'll learn more as time goes on. I only bemoan the coming summer break already, it will be hard to endure the silence.

We also know that next week there is will be another DevDiary:
Next week’s diary will start out by giving an overview of the new map, which will then be followed by more detailed breakdowns as we go through the features for each area.

Please add more impassable areas in Tibet, then Shanxi and Liaodong. Most of Shanxi is covered by Taihang Mountains, and Liaodong is impassable because of terrain problems until a thousand years later, and then Qinling Mountains in Shaanxi, which is still no man's land today.
