i also keep getting alot of UNKNOWN STRING WANTED! anyone know how i can fix this?

Most likely, this is a feature introduced in 1.06 that went unnoticed (to me it did, at least). When this feature triggers it looks to the text file to display the appropriate wording, but doesn't find it because the text file supplied is TGW particular and not every new facet of 1.06 was accounted for - in the absense of text, it displays UNKNOWN STRING WANTED.

In short, it's looking for something in the text file, but can't find anything. :)

I think I have found the culprit with regards to the UNKNOWN STRING WANTED mystery. While testing 1.04, I suddenly got this:

It's a box.

With some buttons.

Any ideas?

Did you put Italian flag in Victory Screen? :D

No :)

And just when I seem to find a bug or problem in 1.03 you upgrade to 1.04b :( Guess I'll have to download that now and see whether I can repeat this (though it's unlikely as this game had the Serbia bowing to Austro-Hungarian demands). Better even it might play without crashing :D

Just in case this was not found in 1.03 and hasn't been fixed yet. The problem occured after loading from a saved game (september 3 1914, no war as Serbia accepted the ultimatum). On or around september 5 the game crashes to the desktop. I tried loading from the file three times and always got the crash (the third time I kept my eyes on the date so I can confirm sept. 5). Is any specific event supposed to trigger on that date?

Marc aka Caran...

P.S.: Won't have time to install the new version before tommorrow, but at least I should have some time to spare to testing at that point.

One of the UNKNOWN STRING WANTED buttons is a 'go to' button, since when you click it, it teleports you to a certain province, I think it has to do with tactical bombing.

ok i have no idea if this is a bug or it was meant to happen 1 out of a billion! i was playing cuba as a hands off game. austria-hungary decided not to do anything with the assisnation(spelling?)a year is completely missed out(from mid 1914-to mid 1915). so all of a sudden everyone one and i mean EVERYONE decleared war on each other. nothing happens, no provinces are taken over no one moves! then out of nowhere germany LEAVES thier alliance and...joins the allies?!?!?!?

( read this carefully, i had to read it three times to understand what had happen!)

(this was when everyone decleared war on everyone!)

the screenshot above is when war broke out! the pop-up menu appeared all at once
or do you mean the history of the messages?

Yes, sorry, I should have been clearer - the history of the messages would make things much clearer and reveal what events triggered and when. :)

ill try to get a pic of it, i didn't save the game but i think i had autosave on. but the only MAIN event that happen was when austria-hungary didn't do anything after the assisnation, then a month later the year change from september 1914 to may 1915, and all hell broke loose

Months actually disappeared? :confused:

That sounds incredibly strange - something I've never heard of in HOI, let alone TGW.

It sounds so bizarre that I might just label it as a one in a billion glitch, but I'd still be happy to see the history of events, just for clarity's sake. :)

And what are you waiting for? :rolleyes:

I'm waiting for John Mosier to demonstrate how Italy fought the First World War on the side of Germany and Austria-Hungary. :)

Come on Allenby, the guy is not that much of a hack. I would use rolleyes, but they are so cheesy.

What guy, John Mosier? Or are you just talking of me? :)

And in that case, are you german, or just american?
In that case, I'm afraid, I can teach you European history even if I talk about Roman Empire ... ah no offense to be taken eh :).

And I think Allenby get the point. In my vision of this treaty ( I am talking about Triple Alliance, or Triplice Alleanza as you please ), it was made by Italy ( an European power; as I said, it is irrilevant to say how much our country, and I am not talking as a "patriot" :), was almost a "third world's country" in 1914 ) and the other two European continental countries.
I understand the fact Italy leave the T.A. to join T.E., ok, we get it. I am just saying it is a bit ridiculous not to put Italian flag in Triple Alliance ( as much as would it be remove Italian flag under Axis Powers in HoI standard ).

Mah vedete un po' voi ragazzi.

No I was commenting on Mosier (and his 'hackness').

Well the victory screen is supposed to represent in all actuality the Central Powers, not the Triple Alliance of Italy, Germany, and AH. This is done because more than the Jan. 1914 scenario is planned. So we have to encompass all the scenarios where several will have Italy in the Entente (which would make it strange if they were in the victory screen with Germany/AH there opponents in later scenarios).

If Allenby were German or American, why would he have the Union flag as his avatar?

Go to amazon.com and type John Mosier. The wonders of the world wide web.....

As mentioned before the alliance screens do not depict the Entente or the Central Powers. It depicts which states were the primary powers in the warring power blocs. If we were to use your logic, the Union flag shouldn't even be in the Entente screen since Britain never entered a formal alliance with Russia and France. Now that to me sounds pretty damn retarded. Likewise, the Alliance screen shows Germany, Austria and Ottoman Empire because these three states were the primary belligerents in their power bloc. Not a single Italian soldier (barring the occasional extremely pro German Italian perhaps?) died for the German cause from 1914-1918.

If you want to give a few lectures on Trajan and Claudius, or how the Roman Empire was crushed by barbarians, or write a new and improved version of A History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire you could go to the pre 1419 history forums, or write a 100,000 word dissertation, I'm sure there's an audience. But TGW is not the place for it, even though we are history enthusiasts.

Damn forum ... -_-'

As in Italy, nobody seems to understand what I really mean in my post.

Ptan, I was talking with Shadow Knight.
I made 2 conditionals:
Code:
if( Shadow Knight == talking_with_me( Lord Fabbro ) )
{
  Nationality = Ask_him( "Are you German, or American?" );
  if( Nationality == "American" )
    Insult_him( Shadow Knight ); ( just kiddin' ;) )
}
else
  do_nothing( NIHIL );

:D

Now let's get serious.
No, I'm afraid you are wrong. Unless here in Italy they teach us ( damn Minister Moratti ... ) a not so correct history, England first made the Entent with France, and in 1912 ( I think, I always forget these dates sorry ) with Russia they made a very large family in Triple Entente.
If I write it wrong, just tell me: but didn't Russia left the Triple Entente in 1917 with Bolscevic Revolution, in fact becoming an hostile nation for the entire Europe ( you know what I mean for sure, I'm not saying Lenin's boys attacked Europe ... )?
So, following your logic, you should remove Russian flag as well ...
