Hey chain...

Would it be possible for you to print screen me the Iberian peninsula in Victoria (Spain & Portugal) with the province names on it??? That way I could post it today and reflect more accurate the states...

Good to know you didn't have to reinstall everything

Thnx!!!

I just realized when you mentioned "Is the start date hardcoded?" that the state data might be non-modifiable from scenario setups. Thus it now appears all the state names that we put an effort into naming are useless (but I will keep them for the time being until I can verify this). The thing was that I switched the course of the converter from targetting save games as output to producing scenarios instead. This has advantages as disadvantages. Apparently since the converter does not convert to save games any more they states cannot be affected. But like I said, I will research this further. Meanwhile, if you don't feel to name states because of this you can just fill in with an empty pair "" of quotation marks.

I don't care about state names... if I do not know the name or I cannot associate it to another, I just place the EU2 name instead... but, we'd better check that out ASAP, could you handle that?

Will you print screen me Northern Africa, just like you did with Iberia? The goal is to have the names of the provinces clear enough to be readable when printed. That would ease my task a lot...

OK, I'll add one with North Africa then (but it'll be the last one for tonight).

Another design issue (I really wish different people to enter input on this one). For the ease of conversion I suggest that all wars that were in the EU2 game will be removed since there is a 16 year jump. This includes all controlled provinces as well as specific battles etc. However, I also suggest alliances, vassalisations and general relationships between states should be converted in some way.

Thanks so much chaingun, sorry to bother you but I do not have the game here and it eases my job really a lot...

And I do understand that I am 4 hours behind, so it's dark where you are while here it's the afternoon.... Thanks again...

Regarding your propossal, I can give up wars & territories, but I'd like to maintain alliances if possible. What about territorial claims you had in EU??? While you maintain them in Vicky? This is tricky because claims are directly related to national boundaries & areas of influence. Imagine that historically Germany had all of Lorraine & Alsace (since the 1400 's), would France still had a claim over them??? Would that sound logical?

Actually the historical claims (or core provinces as I perfer to call them ;)), are quite easy to implement. As easy to implementing the owned provinces in fact. This means I suggest we try to have these converted first, and we can throw them away if the result looks strange.

Yeasterday night I was very close to finishing the converter into a state where it can convert Sweden, but due to some mysterious bug in the province ID loading code not the correct IDs are translated (yet). I have to work it out when I get home today, but when I get it working I shall post a screenie.

Last night I finished IDing not only Northern Africa but the Horn of Africa as well. I hope to post the results soon.

I am finding quite difficulty to find a good map of EU2 with the name of the provinces readable on it. The difference between EU2 and Vicky is that there are lots of unexplored territories in EU which appear as Terra Incognita (not permanent) where as in Victoria all of the map is shown. Thus, identifying the provinces in Central Africa (like Timbuktu, for instance) gets really complicated.

Is there a command, like in Victoria "showid", to toggle off all Terra Incognita and show the # of the province, that you are aware of???

BTW, good to know about "core provinces" not being difficult to convert, and that it seems we are really close... :)

Edit: Well, I've found a map, a good one, with all the names & numbers of EU2 provinces here

We're on the 254 th post here, it takes quite a time to browse them all from the very beginning...

I hope to finish all Africa during the weekend, but we do have Coria-Gaudio playing on Sunday, so I can't promise much :D :p

I finally got the damn thing to make its first real conversion, and here is the result:

converted_sweden.jpg

You can also download the converted file:
eu2vic_test.zip

Notice that TESTGAME1.eug is the Europa Universalis II game from which the game was converted, and that OUTGAME1.eug is the scenario file that you can put into your Victoria scenarios directory. Be sure to check Sweden's claims in 1836, it's actually quite funny how this will affect the political situation in the Baltic.

EDIT: I'll take the rest of the evening off if you don't mind ;). I've got to celebrate something :D.

Also, I have another design issue. Should I even bother to convert cultures from EU2 to Victoria, or should I let countries get their 1836 ones? I feel that converting "Scandinavian" may arrange very interesting results as Denmark, Sweden (and possibly Norway and Finland is created) would share the same culture set of Danish, Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian...

So, in what stage is this project right now? I have previously offered my help but i didn't get any replies. I assume the areas i have mentioned are already done, or is it?

Please repeat your offer, I am too lazy to go back into the depths of this thread. We most certainly have things to do; the problem is that it is hard to keep track of who's doing and who's not doing what. Also, not only the province IDs will need converting, soon I will need assistance to convert country data. You will have to wait a while until I can give any specifications on this however.

I am in full throttle finishing off ID'ing EU2 provinces onto Victoria, I guess that only the African continent (but Northern Africa) is left, so I'll go on with that.

I hope to have all the continent by Monday (I will not be on the forum this weekend) and we'll see where can I be of assistance since I know nothing of programming.

But, ALL help is appreciated!!! Of course!

Regarding cultures, well I do not have any specific position regarding this subject. Either way is fine to me. Of course, it'd be preferrable to maintain EU2 to maintain the logic of continuance, but we do have the 16 year time span on our favor if we do not, and cultures in Vicky are more varied than in EU I presume. But, it's a low priority in my wish list.

ps: Chaingun is OK if you take the night off, I give you permission you have done quite a nice job this week ;) :D :D :D

edit: Will there be a way to know which provinces in EU2 have not been identified? I mean, will those EU2 provinces not associated to any particular state (by omission) in Victoria still be shown as "empty territory available for colonization"??? Then we can take a look and quickly see if anything really important is missing

They will indeed not show up if they haven't been added to the ID database file. About the ID translation: Although we supposedly got people working on Europe and Asia I haven't heard from them in quite some time. We shall see if they show up.

Time to beat the crap out of Denmark since this time there is noone else on the globe to help them:

I just added all of your most recent conversions to the ID database, and now it appears we got EU2 464 provinces converted in it. That's more than one third of the land provinces.

I have uploaded the most recent version, which currently can convert Denmark's and Sweden's territory as long as its inside the ID database. You can add other countries as well to Countries.txt, but you might want to hear me explain how to first. Besides, nothing more than territory currently gets converted so there's a limited amount of fun you can have with this.
