Back, and excited

Hiya folks,
well, its been quite some time since i've been on these boards, and i have to say that im quite happy and excited to see that people have not let this idea drop. I just spent the morning reading the entire thread, and i've gotta say good job to chaingun and all of you who help him out!
your basically on the exact same path that I originally envisioned for this project (after some not unexpected side trips). i've got to at least mention to the nay sayers, that this project was originally envisioned as a simple converter to begin with. get the countries looking basically the same in vic as they do at the end of EU2, and everything else will start to follow.
finally, i have to apologize for 'dropping the ball' on this project after originally posting the idea. i didnt loose interest, and actually had quite a bit of work accomplished on converting the provence id's in EU2 to vic. of course, that's moot now, since you all have gotten alot farther than i did. All I can say for myself is that I didnt expect my real world commitments to get as crazy as they did, even though i probably should have. for those of you who dont know (which is probably everyone... ), im in the (US) Navy, so between regular work days, and underway time, my free time is basically spent actually playing EU2 or victoria.
anyway, Good Job so far, and keep going! i eagerly anticipate being able to continue playing my EU2 games in Victoria.

P.S.: if you constantly conquer the world in EU2, your not playing at a high enough difficulty level! Even if you still conquer the world in EU2, why would you even want to contiue thoes games to 1819? sheesh.

I just added all of your most recent conversions to the ID database, and now it appears we got EU2 464 provinces converted in it. That's more than one third of the land provinces.

GREAT! How many provinces do we have in EU2, by the way??? I have no problem at all Identifying and converting provinces. I have gotten used to it and now I´m quite proficient must say

I will include later East & West Africa (we do now have the whole African continent ID´id) and the Arabian Peninsula. Before I go on I´d love to have an idea of which areas/countries have been identified so as to keep on on those zones which are still pending. Can you provide me a list please?

I concur with Ohms_law (welcome back btw!) regarding that the original idea was to keep on playing in Victoria just where you left in EU2, so as not to devote efforts in other aspects, IMHO we should target in having something that performs just that and later we may add other functionalities. Do you agree? So, we should first ensure that "any" nation you had in EU2 could go on in Victoria, right?

I´m really happy we have gone this far, and I´m really thrilled to keep on pushing the limit...

Thanks, I'll add the IDs in a couple of hours. I am starting to wonder whether I shall assign you to some other areas, as I still haven't heard from G-Klav and his work in Europe or Lord Ashrak and his work in asia. I know that Europe will be very difficult due to the immense number of different provinces and borders btween them there. I suggest you take a look at Data\Provinces.txt in a maximized NotePad window (you can find the file in the Eu2Vic.zip file). Basically, in Europe some of Northern Germany, all of Scandinavia, the Baltic coast, Italy and Spain have been converted. In Asia India, the other peninsula whatever its called (you know with Laos, Cambodia and those places) different islands and Austrialia have been converted. I believe Russia has no conversion whatsoever.

Don't be afraid to accidentally do someone elses work (eg. it's impossible to know how far they have come since their latest reports). But to be the most neutral I think the Mongolian line of provinces and the Siberian one are a good place to start (as well as the Euro-Russian ones).

I'll go on with the rest of Europe, so as to have a Geographical order. I know Europe is gonna be a bit tougher due to the immense # of provinces and the way they would be converted could arise in hot debates later
But, anyhow, I'll do my best as always
I'll check those files in that directory so as to have an idea which areas to skip. I aim to finish ID'ing all of the provinces the sonnest possible.

I want general input on this question, not just team members:

I have concerns about how a player will be able to exploit the last years of an EU2 campaign. For example, as I was thinking about how to convert the EU2 ducats I found that why wouldn't a player with maxed most techs mint continually the last years of the game when inflation will not increase accordingly? Unless he already has a great deal of cash, the effect of dividing the treasury by the inflation level (eg. 2000d treasury / 10% inflation = 2000 / 1.10) will not make it less beneficial to mint like mad. We have other instances where players may create arbitrarily large EU2 armies above their support limits in order to have them converted into relatively more valuable Victoria divisions.

All areas within EU2 that will be subject to conversion will face this problem of inbalance, since any player wants to exploit any benefits that can be gained by artifically speeding up before or waiting with an action until after the conversion (eg. for a war). I do not want players to think or behave like that, and therefore I want to minimize any national strength differences that can be obtained by the conversion. Else I fear the last 20 years of an EU2 campaign will become a rush to complete certain actions before the conversion time, which is something that should be avoided to the maximum.

By the way, here is an updated version of the converter. It still can only take Sweden and Denmark (although this is editable from Countries.txt, and soon I need people to help me convert tags ). What is new is that ducats and victory points get converted into pounds and prestige respectively.

I'll try to work it back again... the problem was that there were so many coastal provinces on EU and not that many in Vicky... but I'll try to see which provinces seem out of place...

Edit: Can you post me an image of the EU2 USA 1773??? That way I'll redefine the territories with more accuracy

I could arrange for you to make country tag conversion. Eg. in Eu2Vic.zip there is a file called Countries.txt in the Data directory. (Look for the zip earlier in this thread). Countries.txt looks like this:

Chaingun: I have checked the US IDs to make a 1773 EU scenario look much more alike to the 1836 Victoria start up. I will post the new IDs in a while, could you please check it again to see if everything looks fine? It seems that a typo was the cause of all evils...

Besides I have finished Iceland and the British Isles last night, will post the results soon also...

I think it's a good idea for you to process the IDs (just like you did with the US) so we can have an idea if the # are correct
