Ok, so you need only this information in the country specific information section.

Code:
POR =
{
	tag = POR
	ai = "POR.ai"

	culture = { type = portuguese }

	ruling_party = 7502

	government=constitutional_monarchy
	executive_designation=hms_government
	establishment = traditional_academic
	party_system=multi_party
	national_value=equality

	slaves = yes

Questions/problems:

1) What to do with countries that can exist at the end of a EU2 game but don't exist at the start of a Victoria GC like Scotland and Norway? I guess the only really country specific info is ruling_party others can be something generic.

2) EU2 has 216 + 82 (from the latest patches) possible countries that can exist at the end of the game (maybe a little bit less due to missing in the revotl.txt etc. VIC has 214 tags, Thus not all of the countries that can exist at the game end can be converted. Obviously the countries most likely to exist can be converted, but we could end up with some strange holes in the map.

I will investigate if it's a good idea to convert trading posts to regular Victoria provinces - it might be very exploitable though...

The problem you find is that, for instance, the UK has trading posts all along the Hudson bay which made that awful tiled conversion in Victoria. I will re-do that zone again...

Never expected North America to be that complicated *sigh* but I want the most accurate conversion as possible... :)

It´s weird about the Eiffel Tower not being where it should be since the IDs were correct. Cambrai is province 385 in EU2 and Paris belongs (IMO) to 411. Thus in Victoria Paris is province 657 and goes first in the Ile de France state. Maybe the order of the states matter perhaps??? I have moved IDF to the position Cambrai was in the list just in case.

Savoie in EU2 is province 405 and I had previously included onto France (provinces 882 812 813) but I see that they do not seem to belong to France! Any idea why???

Trading posts = Claims

I was thinking about the trading posts...

Why don´t we convert Trading posts in EU2 onto Claims in Victoria???

Would it be possible???

What do you think???

I am in a bit of a hurry here, so I will rush with some answers:

Kokomo, check the 1773 scenario in EU2 and see what provinces France own. Else there is a problem if it doesn't own Savoie.

Ironfoundersson, that is a great problem yes. Even if we choose to exclude unlikely tags we may run into white holes in the map (black holes ;)). Perhaps we should especially for example the new German minors convert multiple EU2 tags to one Victoria tag, and then hope there will only be one country. This is applicable in certain situations such as Magdeburg/Altmark where Altmark is a new tag that I've only seen appear in the Magdeburg province if Mageburg itself is destroyed.

Anyhow, just focus on converting the more important countries for now; this is why I wanted to leave the German minors to the last. And yes, your conversion of Portugal seems good to me. You could copy all your converted tags (and the entries in tag_conversion_table) here and I'll paste them into my copy of Countries.txt which will hopefully be the most recent one.

Hi, i do not have Victoria or a victorian map, but i think you should use map name rather than to search a perfect geographic representation.

Paris is the capital of Île-de-France province, and Île-de-France is 385 province in EU2. (Paris was irl at the north of the Seine river).

Chaingun, you can delete yourself your posts :)

Heh, we're not even sure if we need to use the state names anymore. It appears they are hard coded into Victoria anyhow.

Thanks, since the option to delete was at the top I missed it since I tend to rationalize stuff, why would deleting be a popular choice and not be at the bottom? :rofl:

kokomo: We can probably convert them to "claims", but I'm not sure about the mechanics behind it as I've never played a colonizer in Victoria. :confused: Could you tell me a bit more what the claims should be composed of? I got this remote idea that I'd somehow would have to decide whether the province would be a church, a coaling station etc. Or can you build all those buildings?

Doing a conversion with this country.txt and loading a converted svae game I get the following province ids that are double owned:

1193 #double mentioned in Oklahoma
686 #in both Limousin and Auvergne
2383 #double in Chuncos
524 #in both Kansas and Idaho
2845 #in both Wairoa and Timaru
513 #double mentioned in Nevada

Ouch, I did not get all of those, but these appear each time a new country is added. Good that you report them, I'll check them out later.

Because of my ISP's quite limited space I continue to delete old pictures; don't wonder when the old ones don't show up. Anyway, here is the new Europe:

It looks quite good, but there are a couple of double Victoria IDs that I have to fix. I'll post the updated IDs that belong to kokomo here so he won't have any trouble if he wants to make a new version.

An initial ID observation (more will follow): Strelitzen (a province which is beneath Swedish Germany but above Prussia and to the right of British Germany), is completely surrounded by countries even though it itself is left blank. This leads to a suspicion that it hasn't been added. kokomo, could you point out what EU2 ID I should add this to?

All double IDs fixed. The ones that occured twice in the same EU2 tag were misspellings; be careful because it's so easy to make 512 to 512 and similar! I've uploaded a new version now, please use the province IDs there in the Provinces.txt instead even if you plan to modify old ones because else the corrected ones will be ignored. I've also added Iron's new country conversions.

Eu2Vic.zip

By the way, for fun I converted the multiplayer game I'm currently a part in. Central America was unfortunely very much off from the EU2 save. I think I'll edit it myself when I get time though since that save is a good comparison due to the many countries colonizing in the vicinity.

Chaingun

EU2=312
Victoria=349 (?)

Sorry for the mistakes... it gets quite complicated because I print the maps with IDs at the office and do all the conversion at home... sometimes I wish I had a printer at home.... but that´s why I ask for feedback... I do not mind correcting them again as many times as needed :)

FRANCE provinces (version 3)

Captain Frakas said:
Paris is the capital of Île-de-France province, and Île-de-France is 385 province in EU2. (Paris was irl at the north of the Seine river).

Chaingun, according to the generous assistance from Cpt Frakas I have corrected the IDs accordingly... pls check if Paris shows the Eiffel Tower picture

Heh, we're not even sure if we need to use the state names anymore. It appears they are hard coded into Victoria anyhow.

kokomo: We can probably convert them to "claims", but I'm not sure about the mechanics behind it as I've never played a colonizer in Victoria. :confused: Could you tell me a bit more what the claims should be composed of? I got this remote idea that I'd somehow would have to decide whether the province would be a church, a coaling station etc. Or can you build all those buildings?

Chaingun:

I will keep on putting names onto States, although they might not be necessary after all.

I think, for the sake of simplicity, we should decide which kind of buildings should Trading posts be converted to. I would go to coaling stations if the province has a shore, otherwise we could choose Trading Posts... or, if it{s too complicated, we could go along with trading posts in every case...

Kokomo, check the 1773 scenario in EU2 and see what provinces France own. Else there is a problem if it doesn't own Savoie.

So, the 1773 EU2 scenario is the one we should be looking at then??? Gotcha

Edit: OK.. Checked the 1773 scenario and Savoie as an independent nation exists, so it´s correct then not to appear as part of France

Hey!

Sorry for the absence... I was kinda busy ;).

Did anybody do China in the meantime?

Also, has anything been decided on Sibiria? There are many, many, many, many more provinces in EU2 there than in Vicky. Maybe the one with the largest population in a certain set of EU2 provinces there gets the province in Vicky (especially since it's most likely just Russia anyway)...

Also, a suggestion on country TAGs: since there are only 20 user-definable TAGs, I suspect there are even less avaible for the convertor (for example, Vicky has a Nepal TAG, while EU2 doesn't AFAIK. And we want it to be compatible with vanilla Vicky at least), I suggest minors that are inconvertible should be annexed to someone in that order:

1) their liege
2) their alliance leader
3) their historical mother country (e. g., french minors get annexed to France.)

Perhaps in a later release there could be a tool to change TAG associations... but that's for the far future ;).

You may do China, we have noone else working on far-East Asia other than you I think. Feel free to finish that contitent if you have time, else we can probably delegate some work to kokomo.

As for Siberia I think we will just convert the key provinces and let them reference to the Victoria provinces, and then simply ignore less important EU2 provinces. I suggest this is not done by the program, but rather by the ID converters (eg. don't add EU2 Siberia province X because it wouldn't map to any Victoria province). Indeed we should not be too worried about the results of such a system either since the most common owner of those provinces is Russia.

I have also been thinking about killing off inconvertible countries and adding them to their mother countries, although I did not come as far as defining "mother country" as you. That could definately be an idea yes instead of leaving empty white spaces on the map in Europe. It'll require some kind of additional data setup though to determinate what country tags should be swallowed up by default mother countries. The only problem I can think of when that country has become a major in the game, which makes it much less feasable to simply remove it (especially if it's a human player's country). But perhaps then the human player could simply play as the nation which got to swallow his EU2 country?

However I arrange the order a bit (country X is the country that cannot be converted and must be swallowed):
1) X is a vassal of Y, then X's territory must go to Y.
2) X is not a vassal, therefore its territory should go to the default mother country.
3) There is not default mother country and X is not a vassal, then X's territory goes to the alliance leader or another alliance member if it is the leader.
4) None of the previous conditions are true, only then the country gets to be empty colonizable provinces...

I don't see how it's a problem if they've become a major in the game EXCEPT if their mother country (whatever that maybe) also has become powerful (which strikes me as unlikely, because they'd most likely have cores on each other, and would in 90% of the cases have defeated one or the other). You can just load the game as the nation it was annexed to (yes, I know it's a bit akward... but you could always change your world-names.csv for that game ;)).

Your changed order is certainly feasible... I think it'd be the best to just implement that. Testing will reveal whether it works or not...
