Let me begin by saying I can’t thank the paradox team enough for this fantastic game. EUIV has overtime matured into something beyond my wildest dreams, and I am truly thankful for what you all have done.

This newest Catholic Majors Infantry DLC (although currently discontinued) was a fantastic addition, particularly all the Tier I units, and the impressively awesome Austrian roster (seriously they look bad-ass).

Due to the fact that Catholic Majors DLC has been pulled momentarily due to distribution issues, I would like to ask Paradox to use this opportunity to improve upon two units included in this DLC, namely the Tier III and Tier IV Polish Infantry Sprites.

TIER III POLISH INFANTRY

This representation is very time-period generic, and for a “DLC” unit is underwhelming. The Polish “Saxon” infantry formations of the time-period were far more colorful and splendid. The whole “red-coat” look of the infantrymen looks more like a replacement for generic Western European Infantry Sprites than anything else.

Here are depictions of Saxon-Style Polish Infantry of the time-period (1700-1735)

I actually had to go into super-search mode to figure out WHERE this model exactly came from, having visited numerous Polish National Museums with extensive historical military expositions, this rang no bells, until I realized that you all were in fact using the headpiece design from the Tier 4 Lithuanian Cavalry Unit.

All of the illustrations above are of Lithuanian divisions from 1792 that served in the Commonwealth. This headgear is clearly Lithuanian, and stands apart from the iconic Polish division headpieces of the same time. The only similarity is the uniform, which after 1788 was dictated to be a dark navy across all formations, Lithuanian or Polish. I suggest keeping the existing Tier IV sprite for the Lithuanian Infantry, and include it into a Unit-Pack for Lithuania in the future.

These images below represent the iconic look of the Polish Infantry of the time-period, the Polish Napoleonic Legions in their dark navy uniforms.

Furthermore, they correlate with the already existing Polish Napoleonic Era Uhlans.

Also, backpacks are a necessity for these guys, the one on the Austrian unit would do nicely.

And although I’m a fan of the dark navy with red, here are some designs of the same uniform in red & white.

In closing;
  • It'd be fantastic if the Polish Tier III and Tier IV Infantry Sprites could be changed, I think I speak for everyone when I say that I'd gladly pay the price.
  • Also keep the current Tier IV Sprite for the Lithuanian Infantry (when the time comes).
  • That's all, and as always, thank you for this amazing game Paradox!
Sincerely,
Everto

I've also noticed something odd about the winged hussars....

It seems like the 2nd and 3rd units in the pack should be combined... For some reason the 2nd guy has a badass helmet but only one wing, then the 3rd guy has his second wing but some silly hat instead of the badass helmet....

In every single depiction of Winged Hussars they have TWO wings and A BADASS HELMET WITH THE THING THAT HANGS OVER THEIR MOUTH.

I've never seen a depiction of a badass with double wings and some goofy hat instead of a helmet (which is what #3 is)

As for the 4th unit... It really should just be eliminated, it's hideous. Idk about any of you but for an alternate history game there's nothing wrong with making the winged hussars last another 100 years.

If anyone knows how to mod sprites i'd like some tips on how i could make this optimization myself.

Yeah, one wing looks really dumb...

Hey, respect the kołpak, this hat's awesome!

... u wot m8? No, the Lancer model looks really nice! Ok, he could be recolored a bit, he's too blue. More so, this should've been the base for tier 4 infantry instead of... Lithuanian cavalry(for some reason?). To be fair, some unit packs could use a rehash.

Reactions:
The Polish Uhlan for Tier-4 looks like he's wearing a shako with four pompons around the top rather than the properly square "rogatywka" of "konfederatka" helmet.
I also wish the Russian grenadier for Tier-3 had a proper musket instead of that weird cavalry carbine thing they gave him.

Those are my only real pet-peeves, or the only ones that spring to mind at the moment.

So... any info on Mare Nostrum packs?

Yes.

We will have African and Italian units, according to Bjorn

No more Malian Soldiers using potato bags for shirts, yay!
So playing Ethiopia would finally actually make soldiers look like Imperial Guards and not as escaped slaves? Great!

Do you have a link??

Was kind of hoping for Berbers and evangelical majors, but I suppose we will get the later for linking profiles again.

Pretty venetians :D

Yeah, and as you can guess by my Avatar, i'm pretty happy with Venice getting models as well :)
Hopefully they aren't potatoheads though.

Bjorn talked about Italian, North African and East African units. If we look at older line-ups, that means that we'll probably get three factions per category.

Italian: Venice, Milan and a third one (here's hoping for Savoy, but Tuscany or Naples seems plausible too).
North African: Morocco, Tunis and Tlemcen(?). Those are the biggest Maghrebi nations though.
East African: Ethiopia, a Somali state (Ajuraan?) and maybe Kilwa?

This is just speculation of course, but I'm betting my life on it that we'll get Ethiopia and Venice for sure.

But I really really really want that Savoy too!

Mamluks is also eligible for N African units, as right now they only have cav sprites.

I must say that I prefer Savoy gets sprites over Firenze, but I do hope that their sprites carry over to their respective formables, S-P and Tuscany, for whoever we get.

Oui, oui, exactement. I'm on the same boat as you are.

I'd rather say 4 per pack, as that's what they did last time. In Cossacks Content Pack 4 nations got special units in each pack. Crimea, Zaporozhie, Theodoro and Circassia in Black Sea Units and Nogai, Golden Horde, Uzbek and Timurids in Great Hordes Unit Pack.

Then we can assume

Venice, Tuscany, Milan and Savoy

Tunis , Mamluks , Morroco and Tlemcen

Ethiopia, Ajuuran , Kilwa and Mutapa

You're right, my bad.

@Centuria: That would be a perfect set-up.

I'm just hoping we get Evangelical Majors with the next patch, probably as the next free link your account pack

Does anyone know if West Africa gets a pack, or is it just East? Mali deserves it badly. Also Switzerland, Hungary, and the Balkan kids need sprites as well
