Let me begin by saying I can’t thank the paradox team enough for this fantastic game. EUIV has overtime matured into something beyond my wildest dreams, and I am truly thankful for what you all have done.

This newest Catholic Majors Infantry DLC (although currently discontinued) was a fantastic addition, particularly all the Tier I units, and the impressively awesome Austrian roster (seriously they look bad-ass).

Due to the fact that Catholic Majors DLC has been pulled momentarily due to distribution issues, I would like to ask Paradox to use this opportunity to improve upon two units included in this DLC, namely the Tier III and Tier IV Polish Infantry Sprites.

TIER III POLISH INFANTRY

This representation is very time-period generic, and for a “DLC” unit is underwhelming. The Polish “Saxon” infantry formations of the time-period were far more colorful and splendid. The whole “red-coat” look of the infantrymen looks more like a replacement for generic Western European Infantry Sprites than anything else.

Here are depictions of Saxon-Style Polish Infantry of the time-period (1700-1735)

I actually had to go into super-search mode to figure out WHERE this model exactly came from, having visited numerous Polish National Museums with extensive historical military expositions, this rang no bells, until I realized that you all were in fact using the headpiece design from the Tier 4 Lithuanian Cavalry Unit.

All of the illustrations above are of Lithuanian divisions from 1792 that served in the Commonwealth. This headgear is clearly Lithuanian, and stands apart from the iconic Polish division headpieces of the same time. The only similarity is the uniform, which after 1788 was dictated to be a dark navy across all formations, Lithuanian or Polish. I suggest keeping the existing Tier IV sprite for the Lithuanian Infantry, and include it into a Unit-Pack for Lithuania in the future.

These images below represent the iconic look of the Polish Infantry of the time-period, the Polish Napoleonic Legions in their dark navy uniforms.

Furthermore, they correlate with the already existing Polish Napoleonic Era Uhlans.

Also, backpacks are a necessity for these guys, the one on the Austrian unit would do nicely.

And although I’m a fan of the dark navy with red, here are some designs of the same uniform in red & white.

In closing;
  • It'd be fantastic if the Polish Tier III and Tier IV Infantry Sprites could be changed, I think I speak for everyone when I say that I'd gladly pay the price.
  • Also keep the current Tier IV Sprite for the Lithuanian Infantry (when the time comes).
  • That's all, and as always, thank you for this amazing game Paradox!
Sincerely,
Everto
I found this mod on Steam Workshop which changes the skins of the Tier IV Polish Units.

This would do nicely as the standard Lithuanian Model. The Dark Navy Looks so much better than the Full-Red and much more historical. Again, I think this should be for the Lithuanian Infantry, not Polish. The Polish Units should be properly adorned with the Napoleonic-Era Uniforms.

I'm glad to see everyone so far agrees with the proposed changes, hopefully paradox will hear our voice and make this change before the Catholic Majors unit-pack is re-released.

I like non of the north African troops.. Not realistic.. Not authentic.. Since when did Algerian soldiers wear thights? Libyan (Tripolis (Fezzan)) troops are fully missing.

Any reason why the Mare Nostrum pack only includes Infantry, not Cavalry? Even for Venice?

Personally I think the Mare Nostrum pack is the lowest quality pack they've put out. I still bought it and am using it, but conpared to Cossacks and the fantastic Common Sense packs, this one is a bit lackluster.

At this point I was actually looking more forward to Evangelical Majors, but those are still nowhere to be found :(

Fortunately they said they're at least planning to update the North African models so they don't look completely and totally wrong

I never did manage to fix the black line on the unit model's nose, though... Friggin' shody Spec map.

Don't you feel that the last unit pack (Mare Nostrum Italians) screwed up the styles? They use 1350's style for the first tier, which is already too early for a 1450 start, and then 1450-1500 style for the supposedly 1500-1600 tier... and then a very conquistador-looking 1530 style for the supposedly 1700 period... which is off by centuries. The last one is ok, but I miss the "Wars of Spanish Succession" style on the third tier.

Beautiful models and textures, but wrong inspiration. Am I right?

What do you guys think about a unit pack for some of the formable nations in-game like Italy, German, Prussia, etc?
Prussia should be getting some in Evangelical Majors, alongside France and Sweden. It would be nice seeing the big formables getting uniques though.

At this point I'm wondering if that unit pack is ever gonna be released to the wider public.

But, yeah, I'd really like to see formable nations keep the unit packs of their formers, although I understand that might require a bit of rework for how unit textures are assigned, since currently they are assigned to tags specifically, I believe.

On the upside, there are a couple really nice mods for France and Prussia by GM_Kaiser on the Workshop that I have been using. They are gorgeous, but you will need to own I think Common Sense pack to use them.

The "big formables" should absolutely use unique (or some of the existing unique) units. Germany, Italy, the Mughals, and other plausible-but-never-happened states that should also be formable like an Italian League, Lotharingia, etc...

As a matter of fact, some unique sets should be culture-wide. This way formables could benefit as well.

Quick question which has probably been answered somewhere before:

In the early-ish game whilst playing as England/Great Britain, my infantry and cavalry sprites show as either the HYW pack, or later, the Evangelical pack (as per below):

EVANsprite.JPG

This is also true for the cavalry sprites. However, the artillery sprites appear as the standard, non-dlc base units.
Is this simply because additional/DLC unit sprites weren't made for artillery?

N.B.I have all sprite packs (IIRC).
