Brandenburger bug

I have been playing the GC v1.08 without problems - very very few crashes whatsoever (guess I'm lucky:D ).
Then I thought I might give the ICG v1.08 a go. And it certainly is a fine piece of work!

But playing as Denmark I have encountered a problem. I DOW'd Brandenburg - consisting of two provinces: Oldenburg and capital Brandenburg. First I took on Brandenburg and the game crashed to desktop when the siege was completed and the province taken. I then reloaded the autosave and in the second attempt I could take Brandenburg without problems. I went on to take Oldenburg and Annex the lot.

A few years later the province Brandenburg revolted and unfortunately the rebels took the city. Well I started my siege, and just when the siege was succesful the game crashed. I reloaded the autosave and saved the game shortly before my army succesfully would end the siege. I played on and the game crashed. I reloaded and the game crashed exactly at the moment I took the city.

NoSuchElementException... Hmm...

Check that the following files exist:

[EU Dir]\IGC.dat
[EU Dir]\Scenarios\1492_IGC.inc
[EU Dir]\Scenarios\IGC.eug
[EU Dir]\Config\text.csv

If they don't, try unzipping the IGC again. If they do, send them to me in an e-mail to doomdark@ludd.luth.se

Hi,

I'm a happy camper on IGC 1.7c just at present, but I'm feeling behind the times, hidebound and out of touch with modern values. Once Poland has finished colonising America and Helvetia has united Italy for democracy, I want to upgrade to the latest, greatest IGC.

Do I need to step up 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, or can I rush right ahead and update to 2.0f?

Sorry if this is a silly question.

You may just install the very latest version. :)

Helping a Friend

Hi Hartmann,

Hoping you can help me. I'm trying to help a friend with a problem with the IGC. He has it working properly on his machine but can not run the config.exe file. According to him, nothing happens -- no error message, just a little HD activity.. He downloaded the newest Java program that is mentioned in the FAQ and installed it correctly. He's running Win ME.

The IGC does work, and the patch.exe is fine, but he just CAN NOT get the config file to work. He's reinstalled EU, the patch, and the Java program, and made sure all the files are correct.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Greg

Hi Greg, nice to "see" You visiting us here. :) I´m afraid I have no immediate solution at hand for the problem Your friend has with our tool. I assume, he has

- downloaded the Java version for WinMe (maybe the link in the FAQ is pointing to the version for W95/98)
- the IGCConfig is in the Europa Universalis folder (it will not work anywhere else)

I will correspond with Doomie (who programmed the tool) about this problem and then reply once more with a (hopefully) better advice.

Actually, these are not bugs, but mispells. For the Knights, both units are called "... of S:t John". Shouldn't that be "St. John"? Also, the army size of the Hedjaz (ARA) is 10. I assume it should be 1000 or more.

A duplicated leader in IGC 2.0k

Hi. I've noticed there's one spanish leader duplicated in the IGC 2.0k, and the worse part of it is that I may be in part responsible for this, since I've done part of the edition of the leaders.spa file :(

The doppelganger dude is Bernardo Gálvez. He was a general, and in the original EU appears also as admiral (with a note "may also be admiral/general respectively)

In version 2.0k, he appears twice as general (it can be checked easily with the EU Leader Editor v 1.1a)

If I was responsible of this error, I will play 3 entire campaigns
as Ryazan in penitence.

:D Don't worry, I noticed it 2 months ago in original EU, I was too lazy to change it. I guess, I have to play Ryazan instead of you.

New Spain - the invisible empire?

Since New Spain is an IGC creation (revolter), this is probably an IGC problem. Playing an EU 1.09/IGC 2.1 game, New Spain popped up as a nation, and was conquered by Spain. And yet, I kept getting messages that nations were signing diplomatic agreements with New Spain after they had been annexed and vanished from the map. Curious, I checked the save game and found that New Spain was still a nation in there with an army. And yet, they owned/controlled no provinces, and had not for years. Spain had full control/ownership of their former provinces.
Anyone else encounter this "invisible empire" phenomenon? Perhaps they became some secret underground empire, like the Illuminati..... :D
Anyway, deleting all reference to them in the save file fixed the problem.

To answer your question....no, I have yet to see the new Spain revolt even happen. Let alone get re-crushed.

(my pet theory)
Yes, the government went underground and the army turned into a guerilla army up in the mountains of some region and were fighting wars of terror and harassment against the Spanish regulars. In the meantime, the government was aided by the British (cash and technical advisors) and also given transport to Europe. This is why you were getting all those messages, as the government was traveling Europe and signing treaties and RMing various friendly nations.

Now if you had only left them in the game...sigh, they probably had used all those cash donations to raise a mercenary army and were in route back to New Spain to claim their ancestral lands! So you see, you committed Genocide by removing them from your saved game file.

Many years later anthopologists will ponder the mystery of the New Spain revolt and its sudden disappearance. Some people will even speculate the they were transported to a new planet by alians, where they live free and survive even to this day!

Remember this is only a theory,

LOL - Wrong on one point though. They were sailing back through the Bermuda triangle when they disappeared.... :D

I play IGC 2.1 with version 1.07 of EU. For some time, i've been having problems with crashes when I load saved games. Most of the time, these crashes don't occur right away but are preceeded by warnings of errors. The errors are as follows:

Error: (leader: unexpected field) 'ADM = 7' Line = 47565
Error: (Country: unexpected field) 'infantry = 0.000000' Line = 47569
Error: (Illegal top level object) 'Cavalry = 25000.000000' Line = 47570

Searching the saved .eug files, I found that these problems occured in a nation with the cities of Amou Daria and Samarkand (Golden Horde, I assume, unless IGC changed something. This nation has the tag IRA). One of the leaders (a Sharif) had ADM, etc. levels, not meant for leaders, if I recall. Erasing these levels and the cavalry force, fortunately, allowed me to play the saved game without problems thus far.

thanks

Just unzipping the IGC files are not enough. As it says in the readme file, you have to run the file called patch.exe after unzipping. This should fix the string problems. IRA is Iraq in the GC, but the Uzbek Horde in the IGC. I say should, because IGC 2.1 may only work correctly with patch 1.08 and above.

IGC 2.1 works with EU 1.07 thru 1.09

as I have it configured for 1.07a and 1.09 on my machines and it runs fine. The problem has to be like you said, not running the patch or some part of the install.
