Just filling in the other 2. Bug and Plant people are pretty common in Space games, The Pollups in Stardrive come to mind as plant people and the Mantis from FTL as bugmen.

Killiks from Star Wars too, as far as bugmen go from popular sci fi.

In short, in biology, this is the resultant expression of your genes, so picking a human, it would include things such as being brown-eyed, white skin, AB blood group,...

Naturally there are more than 7 phenotypes, but it had to be a rough generalization. Genetics and environment are the things which define person's phenotype. Therefore it's possible to assume that similar phenotypes exist more often in a populations which share some common genetics and who share similar environmental conditions. There has been some discussion about how human cultures affect to human phenotypes and using technology groups from other Paradox titles is hardly racist.

Molluscoid? (thats what the big picture says but im unsure what it is)
Mammalian
Fungoid
Avian
Human
Reptilian

The scientist in the screenshots we can see http://www.stellarisgame.com/assets/screenshots/screenshot6-4f34ab77279bea5f2e09641090672759.jpg doesnt imho look like one of these archtypes but more like an ant. So insect might be the 7th phenotype.

EDIT: but im glad its phenotypes. So theres a chance i can get to play an interstella moth. I feel like we were "promised" moths in a paradox game way back in the HoI3 DDs

Wow nice find! I love this I hope they play different, but why fungi are in and not plants? ?????? Plants are immensely more evolved than fungi what is this?
