On another note - A new version of the launcher, 1.0-beta31, is available. This is just a maintenance release with various bug fixes so not super-exciting new features but hopefully will bring us to a slightly less "beta" beta.

Launcher version 1.0-beta32, has been deployed. This is another release mainly focused on state-keeping bug fixes, the main one being the fix to the unintended "jump to news section".

If I'm not mistaken, the launcher should auto-update, shouldn't it?

I've tried running it with my user account and with administrative rights and it doesn't seem to update :(

It should indeed update itself. We have had some sporadic reports of update failures, even though it seems most launchers manage the update process - Reproducing the behaviour has proven difficult. But now we have a verified case which is great! ;)

Could I perhaps persuade you to send your bootstrapper.log and cpatch.log found in your "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Paradox Interactive\bootstrapper" directory to our support, maybe even with a reference to this post. That would help us a lot in figuring out how to get a solid repro!

A new version of PDX Mods have been released unto an unsuspecting world. This time the main new thing is the ability to specify dependencies / requirements that are needed for your mod to work - And conversely for the mod user to easily see what is needed for the mod to work. Requirements for both DLC and other mods are supported.

The intent is for future versions of the launcher to offer the option of automatically downloading any requirements for your selected mods.

And so the wait for Friday beers commences... ;)

Good morning,on the Paradox store page of Distant Stars,it is mentioned the only available platform is Steam.I'm on Linux.
I think it's a bug.So i report it for it can be fixed if it's a bug. Thanks in advance for any reply about this.
Cordially.

I have verified that purchasing Distant Stars in the PDX Store does in fact enable installation and play through the launcher. All is well with the world. Now on to nag on our store manager about tagging it appropriately!

Okay, so that did the trick, kinda - I *was* logged in, but just to be sure I signed out, close & re-started the Launcher, and logged back in : the update is now downloading flawlessly. So maybe there's a glitch in the auth layer, or state management, something that does not refresh automatically? No idea, but it's working now. :)

Good find! There is clearly some issue with ownership caching and updating that we need to shake out - Looking into the issue now.

Looks like the answer is "nop" and I need to kill it and re-install on drive of my desire?

While it's true that you can't select game installation locations separately from the launcher location (it's on the big, big backlog of stuff we want to do) you should be able to simply install the launcher where you want the games to be and then move your already installed games to the new location - I've done this on occasion, and it seems to work just fine ;)

Launcher upgraded to Battletech 1.3.1-417R but still no flashpoint - @AndrewT has confirmed he can see flashpoint in my account but unfortunately still not available in the paradox launcher on linux

Hmmm. Flashpoint is not in evidence outside of the game itself in the PDX version - Did you check if you can see the DLC mechs in your Mechbay in the Skirmish screen?

Hi,

I am on Linux and just fired up 1.0-beta-34 (did not install the launcher before).
It does not show my only game (Tyranny) - but it shows up in the web account.
Log is attached. Manually creating "games" folder does nothing but removes the error message about missing folder when I push "refresh".

Alas, Tyranny has not seen a release on the PDX distribution platform for Linux. It would generally be up to the game teams to produce such a build, but as you might know, Tyranny is no longer being developed - and Obsidian is otherwise engaged! ;)

@Deuterium Oxide : Is there any plan to repackage the 1.3.2-418R version of Battletech? It's not working on Windows through the Launcher, it seems to be targeting some Linux / Mono(!?) stuff for the audio engine. The previous version (1.3.1-417R) is working fine, as does the Steam version.

A fix for the broken deploy should be out, since yesterday actually. There seems to be an issue with the game modifying its own files, meaning you might have to run the launcher (or the game directly) as administrator if it's installed in "Program Files" - which is the default installation path. We are looking into producing a better workaround for this.

  • Making older games available.

This is more involved than how it might at first appear. Really old games make very little money, meaning that it's hard to recuperate the invested effort in supporting them. Newer but out-of-development games are typically tied to Steam in ways that necessitate development effort. This effort might be profitable in itself, but would eat into development of our newer (also unreleased or even unannounced) games, meaning an opportunity cost that is hard to offset. New games typically go onto the PDX Distribution platform though.

Some old titles might be released in the future, but please don't hold your breath! We have a bit more to do than we strictly have time for (though we always have time for vacation! ;) )

  • Sync achivements and playing time from other platforms.

Typically new titles will give you the same achievements on the "native" platform and with PDX. For old titles... nope. See above!

  • The ability to choose where to install a game.

This is on the roadmap, but a bit down the line. Rest assured we'll get there eventually!

  • The ability to cancel an install in process.

Same as above, though this is probably closer at hand.

  • An additional "news" tab but focused on the latest and/or hottest community additions (mods, screenshots, etc...)

The groundwork for this was done in recent launcher releases - We'll work with better content curation going forward. Hopefully, you'll be pleased once we get it up anbd running!

  • On the launcher web page it is asked what kind of stats we would like to see collected and shown to us about our playing habits. I guess that already a lot of good ideas came from players, so I would just add one that I am really looking for : the number of units/soldiers we lost and we killed all time, all games taken together. One stat like this for every player but also the total from all players. Should be fun to see how insane those numbers will be ! ^^

Several game teams are actually looking at this type of stat collection already! I can't really divulge too much about it though, you'll have to wait and see! ;)

Unless, of course, the Paradox Launcher can tie into mods installed via SW?

No, not via Steam Workshop (being that the launcher cannot assume that the user has a Steam account) but you can use the launcher to install / update mods from https://mods.paradoxplaza.com - At the moment, we only host Stellaris and Cities (XBox version) mods there, but we hope to expand it in the future.

@Deuterium Oxide Can you share any insight in to why this is (for the above question).

The reason that Flashpoint isn't showing up in the PDX Launcher under the DLC tab is due to the obscure fact that it doesn't actually require any additional download - The content is unlocked by the mere act of owning the content. Due to some quirks in the GUI of the launcher, this is a case where the DLC simply won't show up. Rest assured that you should be able to access the Flashpoint content though. If you can't, despite owning the DLC (and possibly having linked your Steam account) please contact our support!
