How about asking for military access. Can I use their airports and perform missions from there? Can I get air cover west of Portugal/Spain for my subs? Can I paradop on Gibraltar from neutral Portugal/Spain?

From my experience so far, Military Access only lets you move units through their land, you can't launch naval invasions from their ports or para drops from their airfields and you can't base fleets there either, so your fleet range remains limited to your owned ports.

Military Access is largely useless. If you want to use another country for any type of military advantage, they need to be your faction so you have full access to everything.

Can someone tell me why this won't work? This division refuses to advance, reposition, etc. despite me drawing battleplans, initiating the order, and using the division assignment button.

Even when I press the frontline button, the troops don't evenly disperse.

How do you set occupation policies (gentle, etc.)?

How do you perform espionage or increase your level of intelligence about another nation?

Can you upgrade already built ships to a variant you just created?

Thank you

How do I upgrade old equipment like obsolete planes? I have air wings with interwar planes and ~120 shiny Messerschmitts in stock.

And how to create and use variants?

Click on your flag and then "Manage occupied territories" at the very bottom.

The only espionage mechanics are the encryption and decryption techs which lead to more accurate estimates in the detail tab of other countries, information on enemy units and a combat bonus if you're ahead.

No, but you can upgrade ships that are currently in production iirc.

That should happen automatically, maybe they need some time to get delivered down the line.

And how to create and use variants?

When you choose something for production there's and icon with a wrench to the right of the tank/plane/ship which allows you to create variants.

Thank you for the quick response D3m0! I feel like an idiot for missing the occupation policies button. There's been a ton of learning with this game.

How to transfer your forces to your port if you don't have land connection? Are there any special requirements for transport ships/navies in region?

Why does game count civilian and military factories the same when calculate what amount of civilian factories will not be available?

I'm lost in the tutorial (definitely not the best I've ever seen).
Anyway, I followed the steps given in the tutorial (Italy attacking Ethiopia). I set the front line and the objective. Every troops showed a yellow exclamation mark that said they could not path to the objective.

So, why exactly is the tutorial set up to make me do something that is not possible?

Any beyond that...how do I get the troops to actually move in combat? They remain stationary with the yellow mark and stand and fire. I've run it twice and lost both times...

1. Wait, so can I launch a land attack on gibraltar if I get mil acess from spain? Can I walk trough and attack?

2. I know how to use support attack with units. hold ctrl + right button works ok. But when the units are assigned to army it doesn't work. I micro a lot of and want to do it.

and btw: I found a way to stop units from strategicly redeploying after a breaktrough. use fallback command.

3. Is there any point in puting CAS on carrier?

4. I can get a lightning fast leopard (light tank 1941) - his speed is 17,5 km/h (basic 14 + 25% from Brauchitsch, Guderian and Henschel) how do I keep that speed in division. Motorized will slow it down to 12km/h

If your troops are in a port already then click on the anchor icon of the destination port (NOT the province, the anchor icon) and your troops will move there. If you click on the province it will only work oversees (no land connection at all).

You can use shift to queue up movement orders and it works also if your are careful, takes some practice.

The forces will borrow some convoy ships from your reserves so make sure you have some available. They can also be attacked at sea so don't be reckless with enemy controlled seas.

I'm just playing a quiet game at the minute as Iran, want to try and learn the ropes properly as the interface is quite different from previous HOI games and Iran is out of the way and unlikely to get involved in any wars.

Anyway, looking at my trade screen I can see that I am exporting oil to about five other countries......I didn't set this up. Does the AI automatically export a resource that you produce in large quantity's, since Iran produces quite a lot of oil by themselves. I setup my own deal with Britain to buy steel from them to fuel my need, but the export of oil as I said was not setup by me.

Thanks guys!

I've got two questions concerning modding of HoI4:

1) Is it possible to send lend-lease to countries not at war but preparing to it? Any way to mod it in?
Diplomacy screen says: "Not available for countries not at war"

2) Can someone explain me how to make UI state flag (at the upper left corner and at the state selection screen) bigger? (110 x 70 vs. standard 82 x 52 *too small for me *) When I try to make the .tga file bigger, HoI4 gives me an error: "could not load texture" and the flag becomes black.

I really hope that my questions will be answered.

Exports are automatic. Your economy law says how much of your resources are going and they are just gone. If people decide to buy them you get civilian factories in return, if not they are just gone.

Imports are under player control and you have to supply convoys for them.

do you have any penalties from being puppet, other then autojoin great britain war without question. What about your resources - does britain benefit anyway?

and yes - one of late game focus for great britain is to give you independence. but dont count on it - maybe you can break free by switching to fascism/communism or maybe there is something in your own focus tree to trigger some event chain.

I don't believe I have any penalties in both military and resource management (or I may just be ignorant). However I do have underdeveloped industry and lack a very large standing army although manpower and a lend-lease program between any Commonwealth members should change that in the event of any conflict. I also know that notifications appear relating to the INC but I'm not sure if it should bare fruit in future.

Thanks for the response.
