When the Empress hears that the Bard is making money at her expense, Perry Mason, Ben Matlock, Ally McBeal and Dewey Cheatem will be hired! Maybe a kidnaper or two. The Bard should rest at an Inn and wave from the balcony while drinking wine. Thank you for the update

Chapter Eight Hundred-Seventy-Nine : The End Of The Party

YdyZpQRE_o.jpg

So the Bard was removed from the Imperial Court and the party went on. Outside the Palace/Castle the Slow Fever continued to roam the lands but inside the wine flowed, roast fish and chicken was available, and there was cheerful music.

CFOmtCXl_o.jpg

Then there was some upsetting news. China, through its military might, had subdued another Realm. In other words Duke Jau Wenshunu “The Conqueror” had become a Tributary State of the Middle Kingdom.

“What?!?!” said the Empress when she heard the news. “Are you sure?”

5YLhkUxN_o.jpg

The Council was sure. The Duke was now under the control of the Chinese Empire.

The Empress pouted and ordered a refill for her glass. “More wine!”

YVXVzfXe_o.jpg

It could be she drank too much wine for reports suggested she got a little….weird. Though it is said that Princess Agathe approved of this behavior.

1J8LrJdk_o.jpg

As she got drunk and gave the Court something to laugh at the Civil War up to the north continued. It looked like Mew was still winning.

W4pcwkYA_o.jpg

Then the Empress received some bad news. Princess Basillike was sick. The uncouth one was dealing with chest pains and a high fever. Seems she had Slow Fever.

The Empress sent her own Doctor to tend to her daughter’s needs.

PLy7KGpW_o.jpg

And so the carousing came to a end on a somewhat low note. The guests left, the empty bottles were collected, and the Empress was taken to her private chambers with a hangover.

Next chapter - back to normal!

The Middle kingdom subduing duchies to the South of the Maurian empire is highly disrespectful to say the least. Maybe we need to go to war with China sometime in the future?

Chapter Eight Hundred-Eighty : Slow Fever

SANAyrCo_o.jpg

By mid December the Imperial Courtiers and the Council were suggesting that the Empress close the gates.

sYDdQXvx_o.jpg

The reason was simple. The Slow Fever that rocked the lands was still out there and nobody wanted to be sick with. Since one daughter had become sick with Slow Fever nobody else wanted to catch it. And now the Empress was showing signs of illness also!

e813iUiN_o.jpg

“I don’t have Slow Fever,” explained the Empress. “You silly-willies. I have Great Pox!”

The Imperial Court collectively said, “Ewwww!” and backed away.

9GYZcOYh_o.jpg

Up north Mew’s forces were laying siege to the wooden fort of Barbar. One of the Rebellion’s Counties.

06BwTN9a_o.jpg

In early February the Princess Pulcheria and her husband, Prince Girgen “The Unready”, gave the Empress another grandson. Named Theophanes.

JxsmMecY_o.jpg

It was decided the baby boy’s first stage of his education would focus on his Culture and Religion.

The Empress also decided to see how well her Empire was doing. Mostly by checking on the trouble makers. "Bring me the lists!" she demanded.

HF2B13x4_o.jpg

There was four Factions, or political movements, still kicking. The one trying to make Basileios the Ruler of Kamarupa was the only one that might be seen as dangerous.

J0Pr8EqH_o.jpg

There was plenty of plots going on by people who refused to stop their scheming. The jerks.

Aiu5I4uH_o.jpg

Her own plot to kill the Khan of Guge was going nowhere. She was slightly disappointed by that.

aKJwAoJ8_o.jpg

At least the Council was loyal. Though the Sakellarios, her daughter Eulalia “The Unfaithful”, was hiding from the Slow Fever by staying inside her Castle. She was NOT overseeing construction in the Capital as Wall Map showed.

iIti6FFN_o.jpg

In March the Empress received some news from the north. The Rebellion had finally captured Mew’s Castle and were now laying siege to the City of Tana. The Rebels were heavily outnumbered and if they don’t move faster to win the war they would soon be crushed by Mew’s armies.

i3SMonbe_o.jpg

In mid March there was horrible news. Princess Agathe, the only one of her daughters who had come to party with her, had also become sick. It was believed she had Slow Fever.

The Empress ordered her Court Physician to help the Princess right away.

aqQhJCBT_o.jpg

Even as her Doctor packed his stuff and went to check on Princess Agathe the Empress found herself shivering. Then she was sweating. She felt awful. Oh no…maybe she had something else besides Great Pox, insanity, and a missing leg?

VhqKGxja_o.jpg

Her Doctor, after examining her, declared that she had Slow Fever. Maybe she should have closed the gates?

Join us next time where we watch as the Empress is treated with modern medical technology! Well, what was modern during the 10th Century.

caught up again after a busy RL period…
And so Sunflower left the party and travelled to Europe. There he made money publishing a tour guide about India. He also made money telling tales of the selfish, annoying, and cheap Empress of the India in all the Courts, Inns, and Churches.
Fair enough too.
Next chapter we return to the main story!
It’s been a while!
It could be she drank too much wine for reports suggested she got a little….weird.
 Yep, that definitely qualifies as weird.
“I don’t have Slow Fever,” explained the Empress. “You silly-willies. I have Great Pox!”

The Imperial Court collectively said, “Ewwww!” and backed away.
It gets better.
Oh no…maybe she had something else besides Great Pox, insanity, and a missing leg?
And even better!

Oh no - out of the frying pan and into the fire. Tenth century plague treatments … if she survives this, she really is made of stern stuff.

Chapter Eight Hundred-Eighty-One : Tea

lqAhUE2g_o.jpg

The Empress was in her bedroom, surrounded by her maids and Ladies-in-waiting, when Maurikios arrived with his own servents and some of the medical students he was training.

cv13el5S_o.jpg

”I have studied the stars and have come to bleed you,” he announced. "That's what the stars have shown me."

All evidence suggested that the Empress didn’t feel any better afterwards. But she didn’t feel worse.

Pi7H0avN_o.jpg

Near the end of March the Empress received horrible news. Basillike, the smelly daughter, died at the age of 30 from Cancer. Her, now Ex-Son-In-Law, was now single but she was too sick to worry about match making at the moment.

At least it was one less family member to fight over the Empire when she died.

SBedUKGn_o.jpg

By April she was feeling even worse. She had to force herself out of bed, using her spear-cane, to make runs for the Castle’s privies.

P7hkB1Or_o.jpg

Outside the Empire’s borders the war between the Mongol Empire and Khazaria continued. It was kind of hard to determine who was winning. There so many Kings, Chiefs, Khans, and other Rulers involved many felt it was the largest war to rock the Steppes.

naJD9Oe5_o.jpg

Maurikios, after examining her once again, announced the Empress still had Slow Fever. He went off to plan her next treatment.

bDqHE6hK_o.jpg

A few days later the Doctor brought her some chamomile tea. Which wasn’t that bad. Basilissa Eupraxia “The Quarreller” was happy she had hired Maurikios as her doctor.

5LSD1u7n_o.jpg

In mid April Bhikkhu Photios “The Ill-Ruler” passed away and Bhikkhu Ioulianois inherited the Monastery of Para-Lauhitya and the other titles.

sjubo4M0_o.jpg

Feeling a tad better the Empress sent Duke Jau Wenshunu a fancy gift. Just as a show of good faith and friendship.

HrxwUT9X_o.jpg

The Duke was happy with the gift and said he would not soon forget the gesture.

In the end it wouldn’t matter.

Welcome Back! If the good doctor only provides tea, she could have hired a dozen cooks and maids for the same result. What a Cliffhanger! But is it major picture and a millennium from now, none of our lives would matter. Thank you for updating

Chapter Eight Hundred-Eighty-Two : Death In The Dynasty

cp7f7Rc1_o.jpg

The Empress was on her sick bed in early May. She was feeling sick but not as bad as before. The tea had helped a little.

KpTOfemJ_o.jpg

It had helped her enough to clear her mind and realize that continuing to try to sway Duke Jau Wenshunu of Kalinga was a waste. He was now a puppet of the Chinese. So she decided to stop trying to sway him.

Sad, because his opinion of the Empress was very high.

WsLyI3S3_o.jpg

But soon the Slow Fever hit her hard. The walls of this world and the world outside this one was becoming soft. Like pancakes with too much warm syrup.

cpKvkmN4_o.jpg

In her dream-like state the Empress decided to try to improve the Countess Simonis of Kunggar’s opinion of her. The Countess was in charge of one of the Factions. One of the most dangerous ones in fact. And the Countess was also trying to take over one of the Duchies that didn’t belong to her. So trying to get on her good side wasn’t a bad idea.

So the Empress decided to try to sway her AND sent the Countess a lot of gold. It helped a little. But not by much.

yXB9JT09_o.jpg

Near the end of May the Doctor approached the Empress and asked her which treatment she wanted and gave her many choices.

She asked him to try something new. She didn’t care - she wanted the illness to end.

7EfdK8pD_o.jpg

So he brought her a hand and rubbed it on her. This was NOT the type of treatment she had wanted. It felt less like medicine and more like witchcraft.

FPb4yHv3_o.jpg

In June the Civil War, or Rebellion, continued to rage in the north.

vy3Ng79M_o.jpg

And one of her Vassals, the Doux of Nadia and his vassals, had started a war with the Great King of Punjab. A once powerful Realm that, now, had fallen on hard times.

60cvSH6Z_o.jpg

But it mattered not. For, on the 17th of June, Basilissa Eupraxia had passed away from Slow Fever at the age of 53 years old.

The old Empress had died. Long live the new Empress Basilissa Eulalia!

Chapter Eight Hundred-Eighty-Three : The New Empress

ZY0lu93v_o.jpg

Artist’s Impression of Basilissa Eulalia Of Dysnomia

It was the 18th of June, of the year 934 AD, and Basilissa Eulalia “The Unfaithful” was now Ruler of the (Second) Empire of Maurya.

HeeiVWDL_o.jpg

The NEW Empress was 36 years old, have four living children, and had inherited her mother’s Titles and Treasures. Though not her claims.

And of course she was no longer on the Council.

Also, there were the six siblings who might wish to take her titles.

l9NMnZfQ_o.jpg

Prince Ioannikios, her eldest son and child, was her Heir. Something she would likely soon be changing.

gPcYIFQ7_o.jpg

But before we dive into the decisions and barriers that faced the new Empress our next chapter will be showing us the wider world. Yes, next chapter is the Top Seven Military Powers Of The (Known) World!

I commend you on Maurya's lack of border gore. Eulalia looks to be a decent person. There might be some duchies and kingdoms that can be dispensed to reward the faithful. Thank you for the update. And now to the Mongols and the next six. Do we get a small religion as well?
