Crusader Kings 2 - The Road of Queens
Chapter Eight Hundred-Eighty : Slow Fever
By mid December the Imperial Courtiers and the Council were suggesting that the Empress close the gates.
The reason was simple. The Slow Fever that rocked the lands was still out there and nobody wanted to be sick with. Since one daughter had become sick with Slow Fever nobody else wanted to catch it. And now the Empress was showing signs of illness also!
“I don’t have Slow Fever,” explained the Empress. “You silly-willies. I have Great Pox!”
The Imperial Court collectively said, “Ewwww!” and backed away.
Up north Mew’s forces were laying siege to the wooden fort of Barbar. One of the Rebellion’s Counties.
In early February the Princess Pulcheria and her husband, Prince Girgen “The Unready”, gave the Empress another grandson. Named Theophanes.
It was decided the baby boy’s first stage of his education would focus on his Culture and Religion.
The Empress also decided to see how well her Empire was doing. Mostly by checking on the trouble makers. "Bring me the lists!" she demanded.
There was four Factions, or political movements, still kicking. The one trying to make Basileios the Ruler of Kamarupa was the only one that might be seen as dangerous.
There was plenty of plots going on by people who refused to stop their scheming. The jerks.
Her own plot to kill the Khan of Guge was going nowhere. She was slightly disappointed by that.
At least the Council was loyal. Though the Sakellarios, her daughter Eulalia “The Unfaithful”, was hiding from the Slow Fever by staying inside her Castle. She was NOT overseeing construction in the Capital as Wall Map showed.
In March the Empress received some news from the north. The Rebellion had finally captured Mew’s Castle and were now laying siege to the City of Tana. The Rebels were heavily outnumbered and if they don’t move faster to win the war they would soon be crushed by Mew’s armies.
In mid March there was horrible news. Princess Agathe, the only one of her daughters who had come to party with her, had also become sick. It was believed she had Slow Fever.
The Empress ordered her Court Physician to help the Princess right away.
Even as her Doctor packed his stuff and went to check on Princess Agathe the Empress found herself shivering. Then she was sweating. She felt awful. Oh no…maybe she had something else besides Great Pox, insanity, and a missing leg?
Her Doctor, after examining her, declared that she had Slow Fever. Maybe she should have closed the gates?
Join us next time where we watch as the Empress is treated with modern medical technology! Well, what was modern during the 10th Century.
