Chapter One Thousand-One-Hundred-Sixty-Five : Interest In The World Part One

nTXGle1B_o.jpg

This chapter opens in late January, of the year 954 AD, with the Empress showing interest in the outside world. Maybe because of being sober? Maybe just because she wanted to see what was happening outside of the Imperial Court? Maybe she was bored?

Nj9wwG0C_o.jpg

She went to the Wall Map and found out that the Aztec Empire, run by a nine year old, was in the war with a Revolt. But not just any type of Revolt. Oh no. It was the most vile type of a Revolt. A smelly Peasant Revolt!

Rsi4ejJN_o.jpg

That's right, a Revolt run by a Lowborn called Muslihiddin. Would he win? Would he take his people down the road of danger and death to freedom and happiness! HA! Doubtful. She couldn't even find it on the map!

FIknBvDy_o.jpg

The Empress then moved her sight down the Wall Map to the Middle East where the House of Lambakanna had founded a Realm. With a Buddhist Ruler who hated her guts.

"Why do they hate us so?" complained the Empress. "I mean, yes, our Dynasty kicked their Dynasty out of India but look at them now! They're huge!"

HNpJ82BQ_o.jpg

Funny enough the Ruler was single but REFUSED to agree to the Empress' arranged marriage proposal. How many Buddhist women of marrying age is he going to find in the sand dune? So picky!

SByILrt1_o.jpg

Funny enough the Basiliia Garyphallia of the Byzantine Empire, who liked the Empress, also turned down two arranged marriage proposals. What right did she had to be so picky? She was ugly! True the first man had been really old. But still! So picky! Just because the second pick was also old AND missing an eye. How rude!

"Young women these days," grumbled the Empress as she walked away from the Wall Map. Maybe some Indian Sura-beer from some of the nearby shops would help her feel better?

Chapter One Thousand-One-Hundred-Sixty-Six : Interest In The World Part Two

tmpkpoj0_o.jpg

This chapter opened in late January, of the year 954 AD, with the Empress looking at the Wall Map again and noticing that the Mongol Empire was invading Cumania and fighting the Maharaja Har Krishan of Kashmir.

nigMUdwi_o.jpg

Funny enough the Maharaja Har Krishan of Kashmir was under the protection of the Protector General of Western Protectorate.

TvIa2NQg_o.jpg

Who was doing nothing to protect the Kashmir. Was it because they had no troops available to help defend Cumania?

i3y8vf9x_o.jpg

Or was it because China was having problems with a famine? Which would explain why they had no troops. You can't really have troops if they are starving from lack of rations. Either way China wasn't being very active in India or on the Asian steppes.

It's the Famine. When the phase changes to Great Famine it says that China will be distracted by goings-on in China and can't help tributaries (it says the same for the Great Plague and the Jurchen and Mongol Invasions), who can therefore break free with no opposition.

Chapter One Thousand-One-Hundred-Sixty-Seven : Interest In The World Part Three

99fcrpZM_o.jpg

This chapter opens in late January, of the year 954 AD, with the Basilissa Eulalia reading up on the latest history in the history books. The earth shaking, snakes, and bountiful harvests.

Out of boredom she closed the book and went back to stare at the Wall Map. She noticed that the Pagans were acting like a shield, in a way, against the Aztec from spreading into the rest of Europe.

fT5lckmw_o.jpg

Poland was still a poweful state. With a horrible Ruler who was deep in debt. Then there was also Germany.

9vl4Clyw_o.jpg

Germany wasn't as big as Poland. But it was still surviving. Even if it was in a lot of conflicts. At least he had a full coffers.

Yg4AtvD6_o.jpg

Then there were the splitters. Rulers who had broken off from the Aztec. Like Duke Luder of Brittany. Who somehow was still independent.

5mjS2i9N_o.jpg

This allowed many of the Christian Realms to exist and not worry about the Aztec. Though many did fight each other. Of course. Like Queen Annes of Lloegyr. The Welsh Kingdom that seems to have been around forever.

mf7T93f5_o.jpg

Then there was King Gest of Pictland. Who seemed to be trying to absorb Ireland. And in debt. Why can't the Rulers keep an eye on their back accounts?

WU30sh0J_o.jpg

Then there was King Hemming of Svipjod. A Norse Christian Kingdom. Not to be confused with those Christian Norse in India.

So Europe was, as always, a hot bed of conflict, hate, and division.

If the Basilissa is so curious about the turmoil in Europe, perhaps she should invite someone from the Aztec Empire to attend one of her parties or to attend court? I'm sure their stories would be quite entertaining, at least until the Basilissa inevitably became bored and ordered another round or three of drinks.

Chapter One Thousand-One-Hundred-Sixty-Eight : A Marriage!

x16CTjkA_o.jpg

This chapter opens in early February, of the year 954 AD, with the Empress receving a letter from the Khan Bedugun of Bujakhin.

WlVSnstr_o.jpg

The letter approved the marriage between Dorothea and Prince Niphon. It was a nicely worded letter but somewhat surprising.
"Prince Niphon was a vassal of a Khan of the Mongol Empire?" exclaimed the Empress. "I must have been drinking WAY too much to miss that."

YkRYXeHw_o.jpg

The Imperial Court's agreed. "Yes, your highness," said one Servant as she brought the Empress some more wine, "to forgot your Brother was a member of the Mongol Empire was a lot to miss."

"Prince Niphon is my brother?!?!"

5chu8ef8_o.jpg

In fact the Prince was just one Leige, one tier, under the Khagan. Pretty close to the Ruler of the Empire. At least in terms of the chain-of-command.

As the Empress pondered if, just maybe, she drank too much, she was brought more mundane news.

bpfWAzZI_o.jpg

In late February Marzoban assigned somebody to be his Designated Regent. Everyone was shocked that this idiot was still alive.

G6FvgRtN_o.jpg

Also, around the same time, Exarch Hrodgar had made somebody Master of the Hunt. Everyone was shocked that the "The Good" had no been killed by a jealous husband by now.

So the Empress decided to read more of the small print and pay more attention to information in the files. But she wasn't going to stop drinking.

So long as she doesn’t wake up one day to find a Mongol army camped in the palace grounds!

Chapter One Thousand-One-Hundred-Sixty-Nine : A Host!

SAzHq9vz_o.jpg

This chapter opens in early March, of the year 954 AD, with the Empress getting surprising news.

yVnk3RxP_o.jpg

"A host?" exclaimed the Empress. "Hide my capes! No, wait, hide the tiger rugs! No, wait, hide the booze!"
"No, no," said her husband. "The Host isn't coming for us. He is declaring war to get the title to the Kingdom of Lanka."

NeLYTLhQ_o.jpg

"Oh, well, good luck....wait...WHAT?!?" shouted the Empress. "He is after the Great King Nandamitta? NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-"

"Dear," responded her husband.

"-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-"

"Stop that!"

"Why?" demanded the Empress.

5juPZSgF_o.jpg

"First off the Host is only about one thousand and seven hundred troops," explained her husband. "And it had to march ALL the way down to Lanka."

"Only...explain what you mean by only?"

aE612eaK_o.jpg

"The boy King has over two thousand soldiers," pointed out her husband. "And....another five hundred he can get from the Talakad Ganga who is his Tributary State."

"So the boy may win the war? Well, I guess that's good," mumbed the Empress. "Let us hope so. Bring me some wine to celebrate the good news of his future victory!"

"Let us not count the chicks before-"

"WINE ME!" screamed the Empress.
