Also, for some reason he was a Rival with his youngest son. Euphemios Theophiloszk was a RIVAL with his own Liege and father.
When a child is 14 and a half, their parent has three options for giving traits - give the child ambitious by becoming rivals, diligent which makes the parent stressed or patient which lowers the parent's stats for a couple of years.

Chapter One Thousand-One-Hundred-Fifty-Five : Defeat?

VZcJSCb5_o.jpg

In mid October, of the year 953 AD, the Empress received some news. Seems that moron had been fighting on the wrong side.

SZPLoysH_o.jpg

The Mongol Empire had won its war against Khazaria. This caused some alarm among the Nobles and Commanders of the Empire.

3hRezYtt_o.jpg

The Mongol Empire had defeated a massive alliance of defenders. Pagans and Christians and Muslims, oh my! The Mongols were becoming so powerful. Would they be able to invade Western Europe? How would the Aztec react to their own lands being threatened?

The Empress stared at the Wall Map and pondered the future of the Known World. And even the unknown. What happens if the Aztec and the Mongols DID go to war? Would the Americans call for reinforcements? The Mongols were pushing westwards still. Slowly. But Europe is under their shadow.

And the current Mongol Ruler was pretty old. What happens if, when he dies, his replacement was even more aggressive? What would happen to India and the Middle East? Would they go all the way to Africa?

Is the empress so drunk she has no fear of the Mongols? Or perhaps she is listening to the advice of @StrategyGameEnthusiast ?

If the Mongols clash with the Aztecs isn't that good news for the rest of the world?

Or is South Asia just sufficiently buffered from these titans not to care?

IT is good news. Til one wins.

And the Mongols seem to be just heading west. They barely notice India. And if they turned south they would have to deal with their family in China. Who control some of the Realms.

The 60yo Mongol Khagan has a seduction focus and wants to marry. He only has two children with the older not yet 16 and the younger probably less than 6. His wife is deceased. He has three concubines but one is imprisoned and another is incapable. Thanks

The Mongols still have over 40k troops.

Chapter One Thousand-One-Hundred-Fifty-Six : Another Plot

r6nYD9Lv_o.jpg

This chapter opens in mid October, of the 953 AD, with the Empress getting some bad news from her Spymaster.

Exarch Danujmahava of the Pala Kingdom came to the Empress himself with the information. Normally he, and the past Spymasters, had sent agents or letters delivered to her in cakes. Or very big sandwiches.

“You know Prince Damodar of the Patola Sahi Kingdom?” asked the Spymaster.

“Nope,” replied the Empress. She was too busy enjoying a keg of mead.

HR8jXOmR_o.jpg

“Okay, well, he is the brother of Exarchessa Sundari of the Patola Sahi Kingdom,” responded the Spymaster. “Who is your Sakellarios and his Liege. And he is plotting to kill her.”

“So he is trying to kill one of the members of my Imperial Council, his sister, and his Liege?”

“Yes, oh Great One,” replied the Exarch. Who was also a member of the Imperial Council and, therefore, might have been a tad biased.

“Tell him to stop!” she demanded. “Killing Councilors is bad.”

nrZ9vP8u_o.jpg

“Already on it,” he said with a nod. “Maybe I could tell him to stop with a dagger in his back or a snake that looks like a cake?”

“No, no,” she said. “Just tell him to stop.”

Too bad. The basilissa should have been loosened up by all that mead to have a bit more fun. She's missing a bet with that snake cake.

Funny enough somebody was killed by a cake snake before. I am just reusing it. :D

Chapter One Thousand-One-Hundred-Fifty-Seven : How Did That Happen?

tb7WwFUO_o.jpg

This chapter opens in late November, of the year 953 AD, with the Empress noticing something weird.

yiCwIuZf_o.jpg

The Savaka-Sangha had a new Religious Leader. A new Arhat. The reason this is weird was this person was from the Imperial Dynasty.

ZSMD0GEO_o.jpg

“If anybody should have been appointed to run the Savaka-Sangha is should have been me!” stated the Empress. “Heck, Ioulia has bastards! She cheated on Mew! How can she be a good Buddhist?!”

“But, didn’t you also cheat?” pointed out one of her Courtiers.

ipDkdlpa_o.jpg

“And how did she become the Guardian of her OWN Liege!” she added while in her own little world where she was perfect in every way. “That’s too much power. How did she do it? Gifts? Blackmail? Spy on her! Find out her secrets!”

The Imperial Courtiers lied and said they would. Not that they could. They weren’t spies! So they decided to write fake reports with made up stuff and hand it to the Empress every few weeks to keep her entertained. They even had drawings in it of animals and monsters to add color to the reports.

The Empress doesn't realise that monastic societies only care about traits and learning, and all of Ioulia's traits are good (as is her learning).

Chapter One Thousand-One-Hundred-Fifty-Eight : Too Much Information

U4RfhIEI_o.jpg

This chapter opens in late November, of the year 953 AD, with the Empress receiving information on the bastard Count Keshabsen.

4lvDgPNB_o.jpg

The Count of Monyul had joined the Gavelkind Succession in Kamarupa.

ENGzOwma_o.jpg

There was so many Movements in the Empire that the annoyed Empress felt a tad overwhelmed. In fact she noticed another Faction that annoyed her even more.

neBKcWnX_o.jpg

Seems somebody was pushing Niphon for Ruler of Maurya. They were trying to replace the Empress! Niphon was dull, fat, and not even Greek! How dare they try to replace their rightful Empress with such a idiot. True, Niphon was also of the House Dysnomia. But still.

3CWlUyaX_o.jpg

The Empress preferred her granddaughter. Simonis at least seemed to have a high opinion of her grandmother. True, she was ugly, but who cared. Once she became the Empress nobody would care how many mirrors she broke with her face.

What does the Empress's granddaughter have a claim on that the Empress currently controls? (Giving it to her would make her like her grandmother more)

Not a bad idea. Giving her a holding would also help get her some experience in rulership. Have to look into that. I don't think she has any claims.

Chapter One Thousand-One-Hundred-Fifty-Nine : Peace With China

qX3rWzMJ_o.jpg

This chapter opens in late November, of the year 953 AD, with the Wall Map drawing the Empress’s interest.

BUEdP0KW_o.jpg

“I don’t remember any Realm called Menumarotid,” the Empress murmured to the silversmiths and artists working on the Wall. “When did they pop up?”

“Does it matter?” remarked one of the workers. “As long as they act like a barrier between the Mongols and Europe. Now that Khazaria has been defeated the Polish and other Pagans will need their protection.”

“I doubt it,” replied the Empress. “I don’t think they have enough soldiers.”

bcR7isnf_o.jpg

She also received some news about Marzoban Theophilos of Artux. Seems he had made his wife his Court Chaplain. A good pick. But he had other issues to deal with. Like being surrounded by foes.

In December spies in China brought the Empress some interesting news.

uz5oZreD_o.jpg

While the Yuan Empire, the Middle Kingdom, was still open it was suffering from a Great Famine. The populace were dying likes flies. Farmers could not run the farms or watch over the herds. And the military could not keep enough men in their rank-and-file.

“So,” said the Empress as she sent the spy to the kitchen to get some free curry chicken, “They’re not doing so well, are they? Let’s give them a offer they can’t refuse!”

AwZbwiDQ_o.jpg

She demanded….well….asked for a Peace Treaty. This would allow her freedom to do what she wished against her neighbors without the Chinese getting in the way.

JGirRPQp_o.jpg

And they accepted it. Willingly. China was having enough trouble without getting into wars in India.

9WRVbwZT_o.jpg

Now Basilissa Eulalia could invade even a Realm under China’s boots and the Emperor would do nothing to help them. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Don't the Chinese disasters (Plague or Invasions for example) tend to make them unable to defend their tributaries anyway?
