I have come to the conclusion that people like to complain, that they aren't happy unless they, well, aren't happy! ;)

There was a demo one could download and test to see how it looked on their computer, so you shouldn't have to buy the game to see if it works. I have tried it on 14" and 17", and it works just fine.

My dear friend, you didn't read this thread carefully enough. Paradox failed to provide essential information on this point - even when asked about the similarity between the demo and full version screen resolution.

There is no 800*600 resolution in the demo
The same answer was given after the demo was released when it was asked if the game was also forced to run in 800x600, which was the resolution the user asumed the demo was running in. Rather than answering "no, the game runs in forced 1024x768", you say "it doesn't run in 800x600".

Would support for other screensizes where everything outside to right/bottom = black work out?

Yes.

This is not the solution. I want HoI 2 to give me the option to switch resolution to 1280x1024 and be able to see all the ingame image properly. I don't want my screen filled with a 1024 ingame resolution and black crap all around. I want play HoI2, like HoI1, at full screen.

As an last solution it coud help, but one question to you Johan/Paradox:

Is it difficult to have an option to set e.g. 1280x1024 res for hoi2? where the right/bottom is the map as it was b4 in e.g. Hoi1, Victoria, EU1 & 2? I don't have the game yet :( but at the look at the demo I/we woud be gratefull if we coud get 1280x1024, larger map, smaler units, bether overview. if those menus are not covering the hole screen woud not be a problem for me. Just an "addon" tool woud be grate if it coud be done.

ps. if it was done then this topic/tread in forum woud be dead, no more complaining from other...

It's not the best solution, but it's much better than how it is now.

That is better than it is now in any case, but no solution that can be carried through all the next patches till the game's lifespan ends.

The windowed mode works, but the game's atmosphere is getting lost when you see your taskbar, email, desktop. You're simply not in the game then...
Additionally the scrolling outside the window is annoying.

And the interpolated 1280x1024 really looks like all those nice icons, fonts, and graphics thrown into the meatgrinder or simply like jpg files with really lousy compression.

Black borders

I have a 21" LCD screen with a native resolution of 1600x1200, and the game looks blurry at 1024x768 stretched. I can go into the graphics setup and keep Windows from stretching the display (the graphics are clear that way, but the game looks silly with a black border around it.)

Although it is nice to know that Johan is interested in helping to solve this issue, I personally think that a patch to allow a black border would look unprofessional. If I were not a fan of Paradox games and I were to purchase HoI2 (with such a patch) and set it to a higher resolution only to see a black border around the edge I would think the game had been made by some fly-by-night company that didn't know what it is doing.

For that reason, even though it pains me to say it since I'd LOVE to be able to actually see the fairly nice graphics at the full size of my monitor (1600x1200), I don't think that such an intermediate measure is a good idea. Just my 2 cents.

Those that complain about blurry images on some native 1280x1024 monitors,

Does it make any difference if you set your windows res to 1024 x 768 before running the game? or does your adapter not allow you to do that?

No. that doesn't help.

And yes: a shrunk screen at good quality is better than the current 'woolly' picture IMO - as a temporary solution.

Just to make sure nobody takes that comment the wrong way, the context is "If I were not a fan of Paradox games and I were to purchase HoI2 (with such a patch) and set it to a higher resolution only to see a black border around the edge I would think the game had been made by some fly-by-night company that didn't know what it is doing."

What I was saying was that I am a fan, and I don't want Paradox to make a bad first impression for people that may be new to their products. If the black-border patch was some "unofficial" mod that Johan could somehow tell the modder how to make, that might be better.

Me too, lets give paradox time, I think they´ll repair that mistake :)

Ok, but ... when? how many time we have to wait? The spanish version is nearly finished. Why we should buy this game if we know it has this flaw.

would way better for all us with "newer" tft's (as older was 1024)
Pref not black but gray if possible as the less the "screen" differ from the "hoi2" window the less u notice it.

Best would ofcourse be a frame around the "hoi2 window" and also for a 1600 res (for the unlucky bastards who put up the bucks for a real "good" tft).

The ones whith res above that u can prob count on fingers (as for hoi players)

aye even a black frame would help johan. Thanks for working to help us tft users. (even though a 1280 res would be better)

On the other hand games like Prince of Persia etc made by big players on the market also have the same problem

The big difference.. paradox listen to its customers. Hope this design desicion will be gone if I get my copy(hope it would be already 21st jan, even with this "bug" :p )

While it may not be the best solution for those affected, "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush," to quote a popular proverb.

If there's really no other way to adequately solve the technical aspects of the problem in a reasonable timeframe and with the available resources, then at least providing a tolerable alternative would be better than nothing, even if perhaps not totally satisfactory for all involved, in my personal opinion.
