Did Sum Dum Gai spot any OTHER Modron ships before he died, or is it just the three? We should kill them.

No other ships, no. They would have been mentioned in the log.

Why don't we accumulate one Tender-full of Partystarters and/or jump Fighters, and then test our new weapons out on the dudes who whacked our scout?

That way we won't need to assault the Mechanus jump point with an un-tested weapon system.

We can make "Never Forget Sum Dum Gai!" our motto.

Lovely idea. Both Never Forget and the test run. Let's make it happen :)

He hadn’t died yet per this:
Lifepods launched prior to the destruction of Spy 007. 8 have survived from an original crew of 78
Sum Dum Gai escaped to a lifepod before the destruction of Spy 007
Followed by this:
New Combat Contact: 10x Energy Weapon Impact: Strength 3
But followed by an image noting this:
Spy 007 Life Pods: 8 crew CDR Sum Dum Gai LS: 14:00:00
Since there’s a Life Pod, and Sum Dum Gai is in the life pod, he’s probably still alive.

We can rescue him! If we get there before the air runs out, or before the Modrons capture the surviving crew.

Fair point, but we can't get there in time. Enemy ships are only seconds away.

We'll have to assume he will get captured at the very least.

A Tug arrives at the Harmony => Neutral Zone jump point towing a Portal class commercial jump tender station.

This will allow civilian vessels in and out of the Neutral Zone.

A Gate Constructor is also on the way to build a permanent connection, but that will take months.

Meanwhile in the Neutral Zone, all is quiet.

Our Observation squadron composed of Agent class stealth Intel ships keeps watch on the jump points.

The captured Marengo has arrived back at Earth and is now undergoing repair, alongside the Gard and the Lot-et-Garonne.

This is the sort of thing I was mentioning earlier.

We're up to taking 1-day-long turns, which does allow time to pass a lot more quickly than before... but it also allows the enemy to "sneak up on us" during the interphase in between turns.

These clowns are 7,338 tons with no stealth. The outermost light-blue sensor ring is optimized to detect anything 550 tons or larger. Those puppies should have been spotted 40 million km earlier. They only managed to sneak in that close because of our 1-day-long turns.

On the other hand, they're probably close enough for a Fighter strike.

LOL!

This is hilarious.

Does anyone remember my failed attempt, weeks ago, to catch the enemy Mayenne scout in a Fighter ambush?

I had positioned the Fighters near the jump point (but not near enough to it, evidently!), the Mayenne popped in, I ordered the Fighters to fire, but by the time the inexperienced crew orders delay was over and some of the missiles had been launched, the Mayenne had popped out again and the target had vanished.

So I cancelled the shot... but didn't bother clearing the orders.

Just now the same Mayenne snuck up within 66 million km of the airbase at which those same Fighters are based.

I opened the hangar doors to launch the Fighters.

... and instantly, the Fighters fired their missiles at the enemy ship!

They had been waiting WEEKS to do this!

sc-3156.jpg

They're going to hit it, too! Those missiles move at 60,000 kps and have a range of over 136 million km. He's only 66 million km away. They're going to nail him.

The Fighters are forced to pursue in order to keep the Mayenne in sensor range and maintain a target lock.

But I don't see any way out for him. The missiles should have plenty of fuel to catch him, and with random luck we can expect around six hits.

He's running for the jump to the Black Hole system, but the missiles are much too fast to evade.

The upper stage deploys the warheads...

Some nice fireworks for New Years Eve.

Twice as many hits as I expected.

That should be the last of the Mayennes that came in this direction... three of them.

There is also a fourth Mayenne, but we spotted it in Mechanus a year and a half ago and haven't seen it since. Presumably it is exploring the other direction.

He is also using Herault class as scouts, and at least two of them are in our rear areas (Teegarten's Star, etc).

LOL

The Fighters fired at it literally five seconds after the RADAR picked it up.

Nailed it, too.

It's over a year since we first met the modrons?

Do we have any idea whether he's gone past our system and generated more system?
