Hi all,

Does anyone know what happened to SolSys?

On 27th Sep, I have sent him a PM to report him that the old "ISP blacklisting problem" with the Wiki seems to have come back (see below, just checked now for Stellaris Wiki)...

1697538387887.png

On that same day, SolSys told me that unfortunately seemed to be a problem tied to the MW software update (which, as I have later understood, is the software used to run all Paradox websites)...

On 30th Sep I have reported him that the problem seemed to be still on-going even if some people in the Stellaris Modding Den server's Wiki Discord channel pointed out that the Wiki seemed to be back (as in the past this blacklisting issue seem to cause trouble in a patchy way...to some users does, to other users doesn't...but I have to remark that it is not necessarily happening "only to VPN users" as sometimes was suggested in the past!), but I was still getting the above-said issues...

To be honest SolSys was quite diligent and got back to me on that same Saturday (TBH that wasn't expected, because I merely sent the PM as soon as I noticed the issue was still on-going just to avoid forgetting it) and told me he'd run a check (which I have found puzzling because...well...I have provided the error details...isn't evidence enough of the problem? ...are those error messages meaningless to you guys too?)...

...but then was "radio silence"...

I have sent him a PM on the 4th October, on the 5th October, on the 9th October and on Sunday (15th October)...all reporting the fact that the blacklisting issue is still on-going...frankly on Sunday I was kind of upset because at this point feels almost as being "ghosted" over the issue (even though his getting back to my PM on Saturday seemed to suggest a quite different attitude to the problem)!

Later I have checked SolSys profile and I have noticed that there was no forum activity since 2nd October...

...so I was wondering...what has happened to SolSys?

I mean...to be honest the "radio silence" after being reported the re-emergence of an old chronic problem with the Wiki blacklisting users feels really bad because seems almost being "ghosted" over a problem, but maybe he's away on vacation or something like that!

However seems that the blacklisting issue is getting worse because I have noticed that the Wayback Machine, which generally it is a way to try to circumvent this issue, seem to no longer save some pages of the Paradox Wikis!

Now, while it is a silly problem (because the Wiki seems to blacklist ISPs randomly...not just VPN ISPs), the Wiki is still a very important source of information and if the method found until now seems to be so fragile that cannot "survive" even a WM software update, maybe the system to protect the Wiki from malicious actors should be improved!

Hi,

I am away due to reasons beyond my control. I'll try to forward this to someone who can help, though I can't promise any results in the mean time (comms issus).

Hi,

I am away due to reasons beyond my control. I'll try to forward this to someone who can help, though I can't promise any results in the mean time (comms issus).

Thank you SolSys!

All right...I will try to provide all the details I have gathered about the issue I was having in this thread:

As I was pointing out the issue has started occurring more or less around Sep 27th, 2023.

Based on what I have been told, originally the issue was tied to the fact that my ISP (Iliad Italia) used a related company (Scaleway) for his data center which didn't seem to have a "separate ASN for the mobile side" and the lack of such distinction seemed to be originally treated as a tell-tale sign of "fishy data center" (which also caused many VPN data centers to be flagged as such).

I am not sure what ruined the solution originally found for that issue, but the re-appearance of the problem occurred at the same time as the MW software was updated, so at first the hope was that was a quickly/easily solvable problem...but unfortunately seems that the update "broke" the solution found.

I will proceed to provide all the info gathered in the various updates sent to SolSys since he told me to provide as much info as I can...please note that a lot of this stuff for me is like written in Aramaic...I don't understand it, but I hope it will help your effort in finding a solution:

Moreover if you see below, you can see that even the Wayback Machine crawler seem to be having some issues, because if you try to search...

... stellaris.paradoxwikis.com, while listed as "crawled" on 14th October....you get this and you are redirected to stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/Stellaris_Wiki which was crawled on 21st September.

...for hoi4.paradoxwikis.com the situation is even worse because was last crawled on 7th September and some pages as Tactics or Laws & Advisors weren't
crawled because ...

1697559200299.png

...seems that even the crawler of the Wayback Machine is getting blacklisted by whatever system is in place to keep malevolent actors away from the Wiki!

That is a pity because either using a VPN (which is tricky since the system in place is designed to filter VPN data centers!) or using the Wayback Machine were the only possible ways to try to work around this troublesome blacklisting!

Can the Civics page be expanded to include the Council Positions when the Galactic Paragons DLC is installed?

Having it on a completely different page means that unless you already know to look for it, you wont know about the change.

Dear Paradox team,
Now that I have noticed that I am again able to access the Paradox Wikis, I wanted to thank everyone who contributed solving the issue...THANKS A LOT TO ALL!!

I am SO HAPPY!!
That ISP blacklisting issue was so depressing...

I have noticed there is this link "If the Galactic Paragons.png Galactic Paragons DLC is installed each civic will unlock a council position."
Unless was added in these last few days (in which case well...seem the solution to the issue raised has been found), you don't need to know about the change...you have just to click the link on council position.

To be honest I think the volunteers running the Wiki probably have chosen to use a distinct page because the info on the council positions seem quite "beefy" and would take a lot of space on the Civics page although it is just a feature unlocked by the civic.

Something is wrong with the Wiki (for me) lately... AoW4 one looks normal!
Looks like you're on the mobile view, should be an option at the bottom to switch back to desktop view

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the correct topic for my message, but I'd like to make a ban appeal for trying to edit page on wiki.
I wanted to re-animate the page for espionage modding, but after submitting commit with basic page structure I got banned.
Page I wanted to edit - Espionage modding (can't put a link here or it won't let me post)

Also I'd like to know what line of text caused the rule match

I unblocked you now. The reason for the block was that you completely replaced a page which wasn't just a redirect. You can probably avoid this by first adding new content(possibly in multiple steps) and then removing the old content in a separate edit.

I tried editing the sequential numbering portion of Empire Modding, but returns an Invalid response from server error.

I was adding the $HEX$ numbering and a note that sequential numbering in names are limited to a few fields.

I guess I needed to log in.

I am having a strange issue with the Stellaris wiki, when i try to edit a page, i get a loading progress bar and then it gets stuck :

This happens on both Firefox 115.7 ESR and Microsoft Edge. The problem started relatively recently...i was able to edit the wiki in the past, but havent been able to for the last few months. Im not sure exactly when.

Edit Source does work though, just not the regular edit.

Visual edit has been a touch buggy since forever. It sometimes seems to go out of service for a while or for certain users.

Have you tried a forced refresh (ctrl+f5 in firefox)? Maybe your browsers have cached some outdated scripts or other assets.

But in general the source editor is much more reliable than the visual editor
