Prinz Wilhelm: After you get the error message, is there anything written in the command prompt?

I think I know the reason now, but I show you what comes up..

Access to lightmap1.tbl was apparently denied by the computer. I hate vista.

Yes, that'll be it.

How do you save games? I thought that Vista doesn't let HoI2.exe write to Program Files.

OH YES BABY! I solved the problem, the problem with the save games too! :D

haha! I disabled the UAC so I can run the extract thingy. Well, it needed more memory so i'll just shut down all programs. :)

Damn, I can't save up as much memory as I need! This is a fairly new computer (Like two months since I bought it) and it has 4GB ram..

Does it crash, or does it just take up lots of memory?

If it just takes lots of memory, it is ok. Let it be.

(And how much is it taking, btw?)

I don't know, the computer doesn't start to lag or anything. I just get the error "MapViewer has encountered a problem, windows is trying to fix it." and I see in the command log "OutOfMemoryException". Though the extract is running for a few seconds before I get the error.

What command-line argument do you use?

Could you open task manager to monitor how much memory MapViewer uses?

Where is task manager and what do you mean argument? I used "mapviewer -extract" if tat is what you mean..

Right click the taskbar and choose Task Manager.

First go to the Performance tab, and report the information under Physical Memory.

Then go to Processes. In the commandprompt, type mapviewer -extract like you normally do, and observe how much memory mapviewer.exe uses in Task manager.

It has/uses (I dunno) 35% physical memory from start and 60% with the extract on.

What about the information under Physcial Memory in the Performance tab?

Which information?

at the moment I have only 48 MB free..

I think it's Norton that draws alot of it, I think.

This is ****ing ridiculous

I have two versions of adjacent.tbl, MapMaker's and the original. The only difference is that MapMaker's contains a connection from 759 (El Salvador) to 2573 (Coronado Bay), like the ID map shows.

The original works. MapMaker's doesn't. There is no rationale for this.
