Very cleverly done, and it fits in perfectly with the micmac/vinlander friendship i had in mind from the outset of this scenario. This should also give the early vinland player focus instead of ambling around waiting for europe to recontact them... or god forbid, conquering all of north america without a care and in one decade.

Personally i want to get the religon question resolved now. I am getting a bit concerned as to some events/questions being raised and want to definitively sort it now.

Hinduism as the state religon, to reflect norse religon?

I am personally against christian missionaries until contact is re-established with europe... after that i dont care :)

The heresy event is also crucial.

I thought this was already resolved.

Hinduism = Odinism and Christianity becomes an option once contact is restored. I thought we all agreed on this...

Well, I would object to a Sunni Muslim state of Vinland..The most obvious reason would be knowledge of Islam.. ;)
The Swedish Vikings in the east did get the knowledge, but I doubt if any Swedes was among Leif Erikssons company..
One of first Scandinavians to come to Iceland was a swede, I think his name was Gardar Svavarsson, but that was in 9th century, after that, Iceland (and Greenland and Vinland) was mostly habited by norse refugees..Havard?

That right, Gardar, son of Svavar the Swede, discovered and and gave the island it's original and true name - Gardarsholm. :D

Anyway, the Vinland travellers were Christians so why do you give them hinduism/Norse? For fun?

I don't think them converting to Islam is very likely. If they were ever to have such an option I would say at the very least they should be exposed to it, by owning an Islam province. And it shouldn't be their A choice of course...

The early vikings had extensive contact with islam and there isnt any account of any real conversions, certainly of no more than one or two men. The religon, whilst promoting and casting the warrior class, was also very forbidding and constricting.

In a climate such as vinland i couldnt personally see it being successful, certainly not compared to norse, pagan or christian teachings.

Please, there is nothing that is named "Odinism", as little there is something called Zeusism or Shivaism. Asatro translates to Æsir cult.

Well I think it should be renamed to Pantheonism. This way it would be consistant with Both Hinduism and Asatru/Norse/Odinism/whatever you want to call it :)

From the Code only thread:

Carrack as a shiptype suggested is not likely IMO, long ship neither, if it is a scandinavian trade vessel it should be Knarr , if it is a warship Snäcka ..
These nordic shiptypes (=Viking types) was succeeded by the German or lowland shiptypes of
Kogg

Mostly for fun but Thorfinn karlsefni, one of the central persions in the exploration of Vinland (and father of the first "European" born in America), was not baptized IIRC...

what kind of ship would norweigans have been using? The event is supposed to reflect Vinland people finding some ship washed up but filled with trading goods! I didnt mean for it to be random but if it is going to be random 1000 is too much:( I think a one time shot is best. hey! the great royal hunt event will make much more sense now :) maybe make a new one and just call it Great Hunt and reduce the participants to 2 so you know either you are inviting the hurons and not the micmac or vice versa :)

I just feel the need to represent the fact that if the Vinlanders had any 'national religion' it would be Catholic. MOST of the original colonists were at least nominally Catholic. Even without reconnection to Europe at least some weird variant of Christianity would survive...
