It's a bank holiday weekend here so I maintain I am technically not late with this, just majestically timed.

Congratulations to @coz1 , I've essentially run out of nice things to say about WOTR so instead of repeating earlier praise I will just confirm it remains excellent and more people should read it.

I'm also going to get in early and congratulate @Rensslaer it is good to see something new in Vic2. :)

This is a tremendous honor! Thank you @coz1 !

It's good to be back! I think I've mentioned here and there that I haven't had an active AAR since 2013, so it's good to be back in the saddle again.

And that's an apt metaphor, since Shining Stars is quickly heading into the 1870s, which in US History often involves what is thought of as "The Old West".

I've always wanted to play as the USA, but never got around to it. In some respects it's kind of a monster to manage, but eventually I realized that's hardly an excuse not to try it because I've typically built other empires into "monsters" and they weren't impossible to manage. :D You just marshal hundreds of ironclads, rather than dozens, or whatever.

I don't think it's any kind of spoiler to mention that this AAR involves alot of conflict with Mexico. But I can also safely tease (since it comes up REALLY early) that there is significant and ongoing warfare with the UK, which pretty much tops the list of countries you DON'T want to be at war with.

I hope you'll all find it an entertaining tale. Sort of a mix between gameplay and history-book style (since I often drift from one to another). Much is offered as plain history, along with explanations of how it fits in with other goings-on, but the game is by no means buried. And, as in most of my AARs, I have copious screenshots to show the development of the wars, politics, etc. For the most part you don't even have to read the text to figure out what's going on.

Please come on by and say hello! Thank you also to those of you who have already!

Congrats to you! Always nice to see a fellow history-book style writer (I have NO bias honest) but regardless, well done! Vic 2 is a game I really need to look into more.

Congrats @Rensslaer !!! I agree the US seems to start out easy but when I first played V2 I played as the US and things got out of hand pretty fast.

Congratulations @Rensslaer! As I already mentioned a week ago in the Fan of the Week-thread, it is good to see you back in full swing! I hope you manage to keep that energy going, at your own pace, as long as it is a meaningful and fun way to spend your time.

Thank you again @coz1 for featuring my new AAR! It's definitely good to be back to writing.

I want to pass this award on to @jak7139 for an EU IV AAR Machinations of the Medici.

I know several who watch this space have already found this unique tale, but others have not and I can't find that Jak7139 has ever had a Weekly Showcase.

It's quite a standout, from what I know. Granted I am not following alot of EU IV AARs. But it's a paranormal story involving the Medici in Egypt and how they had great power across the world and then lost it. How? Well that's the tale to be told.

It's delivered in 2nd person narration, in the style of a Choose Your Own Adventure book or as a gamemaster might narrate a role playing game.

It's a really interesting story just getting started this August but it sounds like he has it mostly written already. Please go check it out and comment!

Well that is mixed news. Congratulations to our worthy winner @jak7139 as that sounds an excellent work. But commiserations to myself as that is another interesting AAR to add to my daunting and increasingly intimidating 'Must read if I ever get spare time" pile.

I concur that it is an excellent start and entirely deserving of the Showcase. Congrats @jak7139!

Thank you @Rensslaer for the shout-out! I'm glad you've been enjoying my story enough to highlight it. And thank you everyone for your support! Definitely not something I expected when I came back from vacation.

Machinations is indeed already (mostly) written and has taken some inspiration from the Choose Your Own Adventure style of books.

Thank you once again all of you!

My week is up! Thank you again to @Rensslaer and everyone else for this honor! Now to nominate someone else's work.

I'd like to nominate an AAR that was started all the way back in 2020, but has only started being updated regularly this year: Confessing Their Apostasies by @HistoryDude. The premise is a CK3 game played in 1066 as the last remnants of the Karling dynasty. It is currently following Count Herbert of Vermandois as he tries to restore his family's legacy.

The style is mostly narrative, but is based on the actual events of the game. Readers are seeing the world through Herbert's eyes and have recently marched with him to battle and seen him develop a friendship with Count Renaud of Clermont. One of the things that makes this story stand out for me are the descriptions of the battles and armies moving around. Rather than two armies meeting and instantly clashing, as is the case with most PDX games, we get to see the armies scout, skirmish, and plan before the actual clash. The AAR is also somewhat interactive, with HistoryDude asking for advice on what to do next (there is even a vote going on right now, an excellent time to check it out).

If this interests you, why not head over there now and show your support? Congratulations HistoryDude for your wonderful AAR!
