do the engines use the flag base color or the 'variant' color used on the map?

Now that you mentioned color upgrades for empires in the galaxy map, may I suggest an upgrade to that for a future patch?
It would be useful IMHO if we could tell at a glance which borders are closed to us, especially if we use hyperlanes.
This could be done by coloring the outline of the empires with closed borders.
Just my 2 energy credits.
Would be nice (AND help border confusion) if all borders had a white trim around the edge, that turned red when borders become closed.

"Primitive Galaxy Map Icons
Another interface addition in Banks is the ability to see Primitive Civilizations on the galaxy map. Any system containing a Primitive Civilization you have discovered, either through surveying or acquiring star charts, will show up as a special icon in the galaxy map informing you of their presence in that particular system. If an Observation Post is constructed above that Primitive Civilization's planet, the icon will change to reflect this."

OMFGyesthankyou

I think it's mostly this part.

Maybe. I didn't want to express that I don't see this feature as useful, but that it could be made even better if you take all the ways to find primitives into account. I will change my language. I am just annoyed that people just bother to read the first sentence of a post but take the time to press a vote button.

Primitive Galaxy Map - THANK GOD.

I am so excited about the addition of an icon for primitive civs. I always seemed to miss ones that I had in my empire

And yet, your UI scaling still sucks.

Hey Wiz, do you think you could do us a huge solid and tell us which flag color corresponds to which effect for each of the ship types? (Like for example if secondary = engine trail)

I question why there is so much effort being put into bending over backwards to not add more colors for players to use, meanwhile some of the most subscribed mods on Steam are color and emblem mods

If this slightly-different-shade thing was seen as so necessary to implement, adding more and better colors would logically be a better choice, no?

Also: Been hyped for ship-colors since Leviathans. Hooray for distinct ships~

All around some good QoL additions! Pretty much the only thing that does not convince me is linking engine trails to flag colors; it feels a bit silly/vain when every empire tinkers with its engines in a concerted effort to paint their flag everywhere they go.
I feel it would be cooler / more realistic to tie engine trails to thruster type. With trails now changeable, I wonder if this could be modded?

That 2nd screenshot reminded me, are there any plans to actually fix the random empires spawn option? Maybe not fix, rather add a regular distribution option. Atm you can select random and still get clusters, there doesn't seem to be much difference.
Yeah, a "Not Clustered" option would be sweet. There's actually a mod somewhere on the Workshop, but I think an option like this would make sense in vanilla, too.

I am disappointed there has been very little revealing regard to how Hive Mind play.

This only makes me worried that it might feel like they lack content (no faction, only differential between hive mind govt is civic choices, locked to biological ascension path, and other various issues).

Ship Coloring
Something that's hardly gone unnoticed in the screenshots and streams is that the ships in Banks look different than from before. We've mentioned wanting to make each empire's ships more distinct so that no two Fungoid empires would have the exact same ships. In Banks, your flag color will affect the coloring and lighting of your ships, as well as the color of the engine trails they leave. The exact way in which the coloring affects the ships depends heavily on the ship style you're using, but the overall effect should be that your empire's ships feel much more distinct and that it's easier to tell apart the ships of different empires at a glance.
Could we have some more details on the technical aspects of this? Can both flag colours (primary and secondary) apply separate tints? Will there be any intsructions provided on how to apply tinting to custom ship models?
