It’s provided my character with some real work (and an escape from interviews!) so I think it’s extremely valuable! :p :D
Poor Lt. Col. Flockingbird has been spending years doing press interviews answering the most inane questions from journalists who have a pop science at best understanding of her field and making appearances on the Emu Empire equivalent of the history channel. Reports are that she is requesting to be deployed indefinitely to really really be sure that they find everything in the Prixhome site and that she might be finished by the time we find another site to explore.

Re-doing our STO. Gauss PD turrets, Laser PD turrets, Anti-ship turrets and Spinal mounts.

It's fallen about 15 years behind current research.

Thinking about re-doing the Space Marines with our latest techs as well.

Would a slower shielded design be able to get the endurance needed? It looks like shields really are a huge benefit if a ship is getting hit.

If you meant... we might de-rate the Emotion's engines, sacrificing some speed in order to increase its endurance... then yes, that might work.

If it works at all, then it should work pretty well. This one should be buildable in a Phalanx yard.

The bulk of the Fleet has an endurance of 24 months between shore leaves.

Let's see if a Phalanx can get close to that by de-rating its engines.

Here is our current Phalanx class fast escort. It has a cruising range of 53 billion km and an endurance of ten months.

Actually... that looks pretty good.

I'd buy THAT for a dollar.

It can NOT be built in the same shipyard as any of the others, however.

I think he's talking about increasing the endurance of the emotions' battle group so it can be dual purpose, not the other way around.
I was thinking more in terms of taking a Phalanx and replacing the souped up engines with something a bit more pedestrian to free up tonnage for life support to extend endurance.

See my post #6484 above. It can be done.

Yes, the aegis was very much what i had in mind, not trying to cram a shield into the 6000 ton storms.

It looks perfectly practical.

Our STO has been redesigned with the latest Fire Control technology, including extra-long range and Electronic Counter-Counter-Measures.

Culise and his crew in ESNS Christaan Huygens are the first to explore beyond the Black Hole.

He discovers the new star system of Rho Librae.

The primary is another miserable Brown Dwarf with a luminosity of 0.0001 - ten thousand times dimmer than our own Sun.

No planets. No asteroids. Ten comets.

The ESNS Wagonlitz (Nikolai II's old ship before he went into Research) has probed beyond the Black Hole (which translates into Russian in quite an interesting fashion) and found the new star system of Xi Arae.

This time a Red Dwarf (rather than a Brown Dwarf), 1/50th as luminous as our Sun. No planets. No asteroids. Ten comets.

No, the odds that it isn't an inhabited system when you explore are still quite high.

Culise tries again...

... and he doubles his luck! (twice as bad)

Instead of a Dwarf star with no planets and no asteroids, be finds a binary pair of Dwarf stars with no planets and no asteroids.

Can those systems be used for anything what so ever?
