I still have the database for this game lying around somewhere, if that is necessary. It's from a while back though - not sure the Modron were even around. I think it's from just before that.

Well, might be luck in bad luck, then, if so.
As we'd avoid this bloody war then.
Or, in case they get spawned again, be able to possibly handle it better. As in, build up harmony before exploring to the mordron system, just in case.

As well as make mines.
Assuming we can find a way they work.

Yeah, I’m feeling guilty because Emu prefers rigorous preparation before careful exploration, and we urged a more daring but injudicious course, which led to our current misfortunes and Emu not having fun. :(

Indeed.
So going back to before the Modrons likely wouldn't be bad overall.

Yeah, I have that same feeling.

That said, I don't think that's really truly fair. The slower pace could also have created this situation.

None of the measures we thought up beforehand anticipated a neutral entity expanding into our territory like this and then deciding to claim the system. And aggressive advanced NPR's are just a fact of life in this game.

in hindsight we could have set a protection status on Harmony much earlier, before they send in auto mines, but that's all in hindsight. I certainly didn't think it would be necessary, Harmony wasn't all that valuable.

I would certainly have done this if I had known earlier just how the Diplo rules work.

I'm in touch with helpful people by email, though, and all is not yet lost.

It may get fixed within the next day or two.

Good to hear! Not just because we want moar; we do; but also because we have probably all been there at one time or another and it sucks.

Success!

OK, I'll try to make time tomorrow to get back into it.

Yay! Awesome! But if you need a little more time we probably won't burn the place down lol

Grats

Want to continue where you left off, or go back to the save Rady had laying around?

We'll just continue with the Modron crisis.

"Now them Bork bin tellin' you... that I'm a WAR-monger. That I like WAR!... Well I DON'T... like ...war! I HATE war! We ALL hate war!... But we GOT war!"

I suspect emu has the same save, it's the one he uploaded and posted here because of some bug in the game.

But I didn't expect the game to continue from there, really. Doesn't feel in character.

The game has thrown us a challenge, a monkey wrench of dwarf fortress like proportions, but that's the game as well. Might as well find out what glorious disaster we have brought upon ourselves.

I'll do an inventory of what we've got available in Harmony to meet this treacherous attack... ships, orbital stations, Fighters, ground troops, missile reloads, etc.

Might take a few hours.

I can easily tell you what we DON'T have... the airfield hasn't arrived yet (and with a star system full of Modrons, it won't be arriving anytime soon).

LOL we've got at least 300 Fighters in the star system. Wish we had that airfield.

Hope the Modrons come close enough for us to try and whack them with a Fighter strike. But we don't know how good their PD fire is.

So, that's an only if they seriously mess up due to underestimating us, right?

Depends. We have AWACS style vessels with some pretty long range radar. Getting the fighters close enough is where it gets tricky.

In order to successfully hit a target you really need an active radar lock and active terminal guidance from a fire control system.
The active sensor lock is the easy part.

The fire control range is affected by ECM - each level will reduce the range of the fire control by 10%, but ECCM on our end will counter that. Emu tends to build fire control systems with extra range for compensate for this, and we have the Radiant giving us a tech boost in this area. We are probably good here.

On the missile end you need:
- Enough fuel endurance to cross the distance.
- Enough speed to make sure the target cannot outrun it.
- The capability to penetrate the defenses.

The missile range and speed are both issues. They are faster than older generations of missiles (at least, the bus) and apparently outrange us significantly. We can try and send fighter sorties out on the flanks and circle around them, though. Our launch platform is still fast and can stay at a fair amount of range, and if missiles end up running in from multiple directions at once running away gets a lot harder. Plus, because of their tiny size fighters can get in closer than regular ships. They are harder to detect and thus harder to fire at.

We have no idea of what their defenses look like though, and we need something to launch the fighters with. Both of which are problems, because our carriers are vulnerable to that just-launched missile strike.
