I think that if EU5 only has very limited use of portraits like I want it to, I'm much happier with 2d, or the sort of hybrid IR uses with some stylisation. I think CK3's 3d portraits far outmatch ck2's though, if EU5 is significantly more character driven than I think it will be, I'd favour 3d.

I kinda think eu5 will be somewhat more depersonalised than eu4? The advisor system is probably on the chopping block for one. Named faction leaders might come up to replace them though.

As for using AI art, I genuinely wouldn't buy the game if I knew that had occurred. We need to value our artists.

Will there also be a proper message log and message settings like in EU4 or Vicky 2? If yes, then you have my vote of confidence!

yes ofc

I don't think games like EUV actually need different portraits for different ministers\advisors\rulers. It is not a character game, it is a game about countries. EUIV had several portraits for madviors and that was perfectly fine, because 99.9% of your playtime you never actually saw them.
It's like 3d modls for HoIIV, - some people damn use symbols and all that 3d models are ignored as redundant

I personally prefer 2D portraits, because it seems more immersive and lets me "fill in the blanks" so to speak.

More importantly however,
Another example is Tyranny and Pillars of Eternity. PoE uses hand drawn portraits, Tyranny have soulless 3d-shots. To the point where hand-drawn characters became a mark for non-NPC\important character.
tyranny mentioned let's go

Doubt it, it seems like early concept until some CEO came and said that progressive teens today like 3d stuff and make it like CK3, so we had a freak-fest with hideous deformed heirs and other nightmarish stuff.
It is also too integrated in UI as well - ugly Victoria 3 UI is literally built upon portraits.

i find CK3 and VIC3 UIs to be a bit weird. from the few screenshots we've had it looks like they're going to the same direction
it's not a big deal since it's just the UI, but i like the old style more

They're ugly as sin and utterly inferior to hand-crafted art for portraits.
Just look at his random advisor portrait I pulled from the wiki:

Advisor_Cossack_Army_Reformer.png

Just 77x77 pixels and he looks like he means business. My army morale is higher already and I haven't even hired him yet

I don't have any strong opinions but your post is hilarious and funny to such degree that leaving laughing react is not enough

I am suprised that people dislike CK3 portraits, I heard that about Victoria 3, but the same
was never levied in the community against the former. In fact, many players agreed that
is one of the strong points in the game.

I can say for my part that my general disinterest in Paradox's 3D craze (not just characters, to be clear, I don't really care for how the V3 living map looks either for example and would very happily set it to paper only if I could) was a contributing factor in my simply not getting CK3, despite the hours I sank into 2. Not the only one but it was a notable element. So that just removed me from the conversation altogether. I will credit them as being much nicer than V3's (low bar though) and also more fitting there, but it's still not really my thing so why would I bother getting involved in the conversation?

No idea where other people fall on that but. That's me. At least as Paradox has done it, 3D is something the rest of the game has to work past and get me to accept I'll have to deal with, not a selling point that makes me want it more.

No, people, generally, like CKIII 3d...in CKIII. Outside of that - we have human-dog hybrids of Victoria 3 and fear that the same disaster will befall EUV

The forums and the general audience are two different things. People here like complaining about everything, that's just how gamers tend to be.

I've disliked it since we first saw em... they look too plastic for me.
