The game project is code named Augustus so it could be a game about rome during the reign of Augustus.

You must not know Paradox at all.

By the way, those who are bothered about the portrait's effects like gloss (which some think is 'cartoonish'), don't worry. You actually haven't seen how CK2 portraits looked like when it was announced, and later on in the dev diaries before release.

And it might not be a character portrait at all, it could be from anything.

Looks more like art for a loading screen than in-game art to me. Similar to one of the hints for CK2 (or maybe the Old Gods DLC) in that respect.

Just me, or does he look a lot like this guy? Same fair style, almost same face?

If you zoom in by 800%, you can clearly see semi-transparent blue lines that look exactly as if they were deliberately applied to give the impression of an image on a monitor.

Unless Paradox is trolling us, everything is pointing towards a sci-fi setting.

But that monitor must be old to have those lines. I rethought my post-apocalypse speculation, and that would be fitting if there was a nuclear war in 1973. Then people would be using old monitors like that

I'm reading a lot about people being disappointed with the (most probable) setting: 'space'.
But please consider the Paradox staff reading this, thinking "What have we done?!". Think of all those tears, streaming down the young and eager faces of developers who have put their heart into making this piece of art. Imagine the sad face Johan makes, when reading your comments. Do you really want a sad Johan?

I say: This is very exciting and though it's not what I hoped it to be (which would be a modern 2000 setting), I will still look very much forward to it. So far I haven't played a PDS game which wasn't fun and I'm sure this one will be awesome as well.
I'm so excited about the direction they'll choose. I think concentrating on politics and technology is a great choice (especially politics, as this is where PDS-games shine).

Gooooo Paradox!

Given we don't know how the game will be we can't really just say no to it. A space game don't need to be anything like the space games that exist today.

"I've already figured out what this [Project Augustus] is. Believe it or not, it's a kind of plant toilet"

Plant? Agriculture Sim confirmed!

On a more serious note has Stellaris been disproved? Because if not - it feels very generic.

Why does everyone in this thread suddenly have a PhD in haircuts? Just wondering. :D
