Besides, we ca't be sure that the guy is african.

Remember the old mediterranean portraits for CK 2? Maybe he's a spaniard or an italian.

Definitely looks like a modern area game. The structure in the back looks like some sort of skyscraper with glass windows. And the guy does not look very ancient, hair-cut, "suit" etc.

Where the hell do you see anything like a suit?

"Imagine a Roman Empire that never fell. Imagine Roman spaceships, imagine how cool they would be." - The Meddling Monk, Doctor Who: The Secret History

Did you ride the spinning honey-jars? Seemed far to vomit-inducing to me, but the very slow car-ride was nice.

Yes. Not everybody in the classic era was hung up on racism... In fact, "dark skinned people" were dominant in...you guessed it... North Africa, where Rome had a "good sized" chunk of its empire.

Not north of Sahara, and not with that hairstyle. Egyptians and berbers were hamitic caucasians, the chartagians semitic ones imigrated from Phoenicia in todays Lebanon/Palestine.

So different opinions on that one. I have no knowledge of what kinds of people inhabited North Africa during this time period. If there weren't many black Africans there or otherwise in the area (what about Egypt, for instance?), that'd point away from a classical antiquity/Rome setting. What does racism have to do with it, btw?

What if it's fallout styled post-apocalypse? That would explain the computer/hologram appearence on the portrait. The background looks like earth, and if thats a pillar there could be afuture post-apocalyptic roman/greek society. They would elect their leaders, and technology is important to survive. Terrain is important, because you have to find a good and defendable place with enough resources to sustain your group of survivors. There will be no stabbing of pigs, because they are hunted with guns. 3&7 I have no idea, maybe a nuclear war happened in 3/7/2073 between 3 and 7 in the morning.

Or this is just an another troll hint to confuse us

Post-apocalypse might be fun, but I'm not sure that'd fit the hint about a lot of people in the studio wanting to do such a game? Haven't seen them talk about that anywhere. I could just have missed it, but until I see evidence otherwise, I'm sticking with space since I've found quotes supporting that.

although i still think it is a space game. i find it interesting that the sky behind the character is blue. suggesting to me at least that hey is on earth and this give more credence to a historical/modern game.

Why would blue skies have to mean Earth?

You always get scanlines like that when you take a print-screen.

Or do you..?

Good one... did you draw the portrait?

Feels very space-like. Very nice to see some kinds of characters represented in the game.

This really is the most intereesting piece of actual information so far: the game is likely to have characters in it, which also fits with pointing out that Doomdark is doing design. If it is in fact a space game, I'm hoping that it has a good emphasis on characters, which would help a space game stand out, 4x or PDS-style GSG.

If it's a space game, I hope they use that Coriolis setting. it's really interesting.

Neither antique nor space. It is Modern. Should be post 1973.

Modern, character driven geo-politics would be my dream. The modern haircut is more suggestive of this than space. But then Space seems to be a front runner.

Well the hairstyle and (very) dark skin tone does not really match with anything particlarly antiquity based if you ask me Sub-Saharan africans must have been pretty rare around the mediteranee and this guy really doesn't look like a phoenician or ancient Egyptian. The (seemingly) cracked pillar however could indicate a more ancient setting but I think it fits better with some Retro-sci-fi setting (a world of Byzantine intrigue wasn't it?) with some large space empire at the brink of collapsing which really is a cooll setting.

Still pretty disapointed with it not being an ancient empires game, the timing would have been perfect considering the TW:Rome2 disapointment, the time past since EU:IV, the popularity of Romans in general and with history enthusiasts and the fact that an ancient setting could easily be released without competing to heavily with HoI IV or EU:IV.

My theory: Seven Kingdoms, 3 families (Stark, Lannister, Baratheon)

Technological development is important ?
No.

Maybe in before Thure ? Yes !
