Huh. Maybe I have an accent, because ive always only heard one syllable in giant. Sorry.
It's all good, there's so many different dialects and stuff that stuff can be pretty nuts when it comes to words.

Re: Scale.
While it is true BattleTech has been notorious for its sense of scale. The PGI models are "generally" accurate to being able to fit a person in them. That said, for this game and in regard to art there is a thing called artistic license at play here where the hero/player units are increased in size because they are the hero units. In this game I believe the 'mechs are scaled to x1.25 of "actual size" and vees are shrunk a bit.

Well there are mechs where the lore states the pilots were so cramped they got back issues.
Yeah, that too. I'm looking at you Assassin!

The lore also tries to tell us that mech cockpits are big enough that the mechwarrior can get up and walk around to the toilet that is supposedly standard equipment in them.

BattleTech's scale has always been all over the place.

That's why I try to not sweat those details (like the scale) so much. If it looks about right in size, it's good enough for me.

Re: Size. I do not like the big sized mechs. I just believe that the tonnage is silly. VERY silly. Laughably silly.
A modern battle tank is 50 - 70 tons, has only 1 main weapon (and 2-4 machineguns), and has room for 4-5 people. Even if a Battlemech had room to walk in, a toilet, a sleeping cot, a shrine for prayer and contemplation and a shauna the size is still silly. And military equipment is not design with the comfort of the operator in mind, so I am sceptical about the shauna. And the Battlemechs are stepping on battletanks and squashing them.
So in my head, I laugh at the sillyness of the designers who can not understand simple weight and size measurements and I have decided that they are not refering to metric tons, but to "battlemech tons" that are about 5 times as heavy as the ones we use in our time, or perhaps more.

My 'headcanon' is that the Star League imposed a new standard set of weights and measures while keeping the old names. Doesn't solve the problem though since they still use accurate measurements for non-mech things.

Going back (a bit): The nature of the syllable is that each one contains one (1) vowel sound. "Giant" contains two vowels, therefore two syllables.

Having done some fairly serious work on poetry when teaching grade eleven and twelve English, it's struck me that Classical poetry (and by "classical", I'm referring to pre-World War I era literary works) - regardless of what particular culture we're discussing - assumes an almost mathematical line of precision in how "good" poetry is supposed to be composed. The haiku has a very, very specific number of syllables and how they're ordered; Western Classical poetry (again, extending from the time humans walked out of the tall grass up until WWI) has its own set of rules for what defines "good" poetry - rhyme scheme, establishment of rhythm, repetition of words and/or ideas, which have changed somewhat depending on what specific "classical" period we're discussing, but which have always been present in one form or another. The Shakespeare/Elizabethan era - indeed, any literary academe extending up until the early Twentieth century - would have regarded Modern (1918-1945) and Post-Modern (1945 - present) poetry as garbage; there's no precision, no set structure, no rules that have to be followed in the creation of "art". What, then, qualifies such Modern/Post-Modern works as poetry? Because we say it is. Indeed, the Elizabethan era regarded poetry - properly composed - as true "art", and plays that are performed, studied and enjoyed to this day were seen as disposable entertainment...not too much different from cartoons.

So, what the hell does this have to do with 'Mech height scales and the whole "size does matter" debate? Well, with the next 'Mech scrap I'm going to get into a poetry writing contest with the opposing 'Mech commander - winner is the one who can compose the best haiku/three paragraph poem (author's choice) while engaged in a no-holds-barred 'Mech-to-'Mech scrap. Winner to be chosen by blind votes from the surviving members of both Companies.

Good reason to leave no survivors. No one left to vote against you, and if your guys do, there’s no one left to collect the debt.

We're pleased to today announce that BATTLETECH, the first turn-based tactical ‘Mech combat PC game in over 20 years, will be available on April 24, 2018. To celebrate the forthcoming launch, today marks the premiere of the BATTLETECH cinematic story trailer, available to watch now.
Developed by Harebrained Schemes, the studio responsible for the critically acclaimed Shadowrun Returns series, BATTLETECH is the next generation of turn-based tactical ‘Mech combat. In BATTLETECH, you play as the commander of a mercenary company on the edges of civilized space, negotiating and executing a variety of combat contracts while attempting to keep your ‘Mechwarriors happy and your operations prosperous. The game’s story features the player falling in with the deposed ruler of a noble house and, fighting for either coin or cause, becoming a player in her bid to retake her throne. BATTLETECH will be available for PC and Mac, at a suggested retail price of $39.99. Linux will be added post-launch.

“The entire team at Harebrained Schemes has been eagerly awaiting the day we deliver BATTLETECH to long time fans and introduce the joy of tactical ‘Mech combat and deadly interstellar politics to new ones,” said Jordan Weisman, CEO of Harebrained Schemes and creator the MechWarrior and BATTLETECH universe. “We’re massively thankful to our Kickstarter backers and fans of the MechWarrior legacy. Without their patience, dedication and support, this modern turn-based BATTLETECH wouldn’t soon be launching on PC and Mac.”

Pre-order BATTLETECH today, RIGHT HERE!

I think it's ABSOLUTE B.S. That Cohh and some other "Streamers" have access RIGHT NOW. I am the same backer level as they are. Been waiting the SAME FRIGGEN AMOUNT of time as they have and they can just play play play. Total CRAP IMHO. Where is MY ACCESS? the one I PAID the SAME amount of money for as he and others did?

Where is it? Is it in the .txt file you placed in Steam? No... not there. Hey, I love my bomber jacket but what the hell? Why are these streamers more important and have access and liberty to film and spoil the mission sets and I don't?

Total crap. And I am sure Kiva or someone will respond with "well... we limited them to the such and such mission for streaming" which is TOTAL CRAP.

Did they, the streamers, PAY MORE? if they did I am unaware of it. And if they did, did you guys make it an option for all of the rest of us? You know... to play up to the embargo mission in storyline, but do whatever we want on the random missions?

Damn, are you guys taking a page out of Pirahna's playbook here? I mean HBS has had some excellent games but "restricted beta" play for people who make money off of playing a game when they (the streamer) paid the same or LESS than many of us backers is C-R-A-P. period.

Your access will be on April 24, like all the rest of us nonMedia members who aren't doing reviews and advertising.

Please limit the excessive all caps, and repetitive "crap"s . Thank you.

Dat's modern marketing

At this point he's likely sold enough pre-orders to get himself a custom MW pilot a few times over, if not the max tier given the base game is $40. That's why they gave it to streamers early and all the hype and pre-orders sold will ensure all players get great post launch support and grander expansions in the future.
