Killing Mr Hitler

I hope this isn't a taboo subject but are the 'German officer purges' after the Stauffenberg assasination attempt simulated? They reached as far up as FM Rommel. Or other assasination attempts vs world leaders (particularly Hitler and Stalin). Been reading Alan Clark's Barbarossa and there was apparently a planned attempt by staff officers of Army Group Center to kidnap and assasinate Hitler when he visited the front.

Again if this is a taboo subject I apologize.

Nope, no taboo at all. There are purges of the German military and ministers if teh assassination either succeeds (all those SS and loyal fascists go away), or if it fails (anyone historically associated with the plot, plus a few others who just lost their jobs). The notorious Soviet purges are already well covered, and I'm unsure about any attempts to off Uncle Joe by internal threats durring teh war.

The German purges shouldn't be some random event that never happens, it should be like the Soviets as they actually happened and got rid of a hand full of high ranking officers.

Be careful about these purges. They only happened when the dictator feared dissent amongst the officers. The german army was very loyal, until it was quite clear for everyone that they were losing the war.

Argentina and the falling Commonwealth

Thx for all comments on the event. I have added the aspects you mentinoned (I think). It grew alot and maybe its possible to make it smaller but I don't know how unless you cut parts of it. I don't know if the effects are to strong or to weak.

The first change is the trigger conditions, there are lots of them now. Since this decreases the likelyhood of the event, Increased the random number for the events occurence.

I also added an alternative option so its poosible to back down. And I also added an option to further and becoming an regional bully. Related to this I created a series of events to reflect Paraguays and Uruguays response to this. I don't know if this is the best way to represent Argentinga becoming a bully. Maybe Argentina should be the one declaring war.

Another question popped up in my head, if all this happen what would Brasil do? Any thoughts / comments. (I haven't tried the events yet) I am about to do that.

Regards
Duncker

##ENDING HERE##

Why would Paraguay prefer to give in to Argentina's demands?
In the past Paraguay had on several occasions feriociously defended itself against any foreign demands: Chaco War against Bolivia and earlier the war against Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
Furthermore, leave it to Argentina to declare war if the other nations do not give in. They are clearly the agressor and should suffer the consequences, not the others.

On the coding, I would recommend to use higher offset values. They determine how ofter the engine has to check the trigger, hence a low offset is probably more likely to slow the game down. With thousands of events this might become a problem. So better go for offset values not lower than needed.

Reminder to event writers:

Ditch the periods at the end or your action statements (names)

That means, none of the "We will not take this!!!" stuff...

Periods only go at the end of the long event description.

I have updated the "Treaty of Munich" event set with some minor tweaks and complete descriptions.
http://www.kawo1.rwth-aachen.de/~gilgamesch/HOI_events_germany.txt (65 kbyte)
Feel free to state your opinion on anything in there, otherwise I believe this to be finished.

What comes next will be an event set on the direct implications, "End of Czechoslovakia".
In the original version that event is already quite OK, I am going to redo the timing for the historical outcome to give it a chance to occur earlier introduce a version more difficult for germany depending on a lesser compromise at munich and an unprobable option for Czechoslovakia to join Axis, since that was deleted from the original "Treaty of Munich" but would have been somehow possible afterwards.

The purges that happen in Germany only happen if the assassination attempt is made. Though I think Copper did some ministerial changes, nothing like the Soviet purges though.

I´m not playing CORE, as I am afraid that my computer will crash when I download something, but I have an event that I would like to "see" in the game, I can´t code, but I can give you text, options and effect, something like this:

THE PERMITTEN TRAFFIC (Sweden)

In 1941, Germany demanded that Sweden would allow the th 18000 men of Division Engelbrecht to travel from occupied Norway, through sweden and help with the fighting in Finland, the swedish government, fearing an invasion was forced to comply.

German choices:

The finns need help quick!
Effect: sweden has to descide weather to allow german traffic or not

We can alway transport the troop though northern norway...
Effect: Nothing

Swedish choices

Choice 1: We do not want to risk war
Effect: German military access through sweden, swedish dissent +2, some extention of infrastructure in the northern parts of sweden.
Choice 2: We do not want to step aside from neutrality
Swedish dissent -2

THE PER ALBIN HANSSON LINE(sweden)

During the war, sweden began to prepare for war, therefore a line of sea-forts was established along the swedish coast, the forts were to be known as the per albin hansson line.

Choice1: We need protection!
Effect: seaforts +1 in all sweedish seazones, manpower -20, steel-100

Choice2: too costy
Effect: nothing

Sorry about the double post, I happened to post it, and now I can´t remove it

Don't worry about it. Happens to everyone eventually.

As for the events, I'm not sure how much of an impact the Swedish MA event will have, as generally, Germany doesn't have that many divisions in Norway, and doesn't always polish off teh Norwegians before Barbarosa. Still worth exploring though.

Do you have any data on those Swedish coastal forts? When did they begin building, when/if they were completed, what they constituted, etc. that will be needed to properly script the event code to maintain historical accuracy.

Pan-American Conference

On 5 January, 1942, the nations at the Pan-American Conference recommended a "rupture" with the Axis Powers.

This event would involve the South American nations, Mexico, Panama, and Costa Rica. (Canada, the U.S., Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Haiti were also there, but had already previously joined the allies after Pearl Harbour [with the exception of Canada of course]). The nations would be presented with a choice- Break ties with the Axis powers (alignment towards fascism by -20 or so and toward democracy by 50[?]) or support the Axis cause (opposite effects).

Also, historically, Mexico joined the war on 22 May, 1942 and Brazil joined the war on 23 Aug 1942.

this is being worked on, honestly! A number of things are in the works for after 0.7 is out, including some of the major conferences, Lend-Lease (especially to SoAm), as well tweaks being made by the LeaderModification thread, all of which will help to get the South American nations on a more historical track.

Thx, You are right. I made some more changes. My (from the beginning) small event keeps growing.

I changed the offset to 20 for the event that initiates the recapture of the Malvinas / Falklands and 40 for ARG becoming a bully. If I understand this correctly it would mean that ARG will wait for 40 days before becoming a Bully? If so it would give them enough time to capture the Malvinas (occupy).

The other offsets are 10 so the event will run slow I think but I don't think that will be a problem for the countries involved. (they don't have a lot of other events)

I also added a few more steps so that it is ARG that declares war. I also changed the priorities of event selections. PARAGUAY will prefer to refuse to give in now and I made ARG to prefer not to DOW PAR. But for URU, I made URU prefer to give in and ARG to DOW.

I'm going to test drive it tonight.

Best regards
Duncker

here is a site on von Fritsch and here is a site on Blomberg.

Now I understand, you want a fixed event about certain army leaders who aren't in the game to be purged due to an intrigue of certain Nazi leaders.

For my taste this sounds a bit too history-bookish. For the dynamic gameplay this is not really fitting. There is no way to control whether those Nazi leaders are in their historical position in the game at a given time, and it is debatable whether they would intrigue in any given international situation possible in the game. So to me this event seems rather random, you could just have any general be intrigued against by an arbitrary Nazi leader. As the effect is more a flavour than being an impact on the game, I'd suggest to make it a random event and maybe adding an account about a historic purge to the description.

Things are getting clearer now. In that case you should drop the "command = {type = trigger which = ... }" line from the actions sections, since it triggers the mentioned event instantly. Instead you add an "command = { type = sleepevent which = ... }" to the other option to disable the event that in that case should not follow.
Checking the previous event in the trigger section of the follow up makes sure it only occurs the right times.

Apart from that I suggest to check whether Argentina control the Falklands before doing the bullying, that is a simple trigger line.

Oh yes, the lend leases! They need to add NatChi, France, and Brazil (if in the War) to the lend lease events.

Historically Brazil received $230,957mil (joining war in Aug 1942)
China(Nationalist) received $1.729333 billion
Free France got $2.039474 bln
USSR got $5.5 bln
UK got $14.296 Billion
and roughly $900 million to other allied countries

Also, Britain should be able to get bombers added to the force pool for like, maybe -X(depends on # of bombers) manpower and X supplies, because the U.S. gave a lot of bombers to Britain after war began.
