We still need some flags:

Makhnovshchina

Syria

Warlord China

er....

I'd assumed that the Makhnovshchina flag would be plain black, as they were anarchists.

(Apparently the red and black anarchist flag - as used in HoI by the Rebel faction - was first used during the 1930s in Spain)

China's flag had five equally-sized horizontal stripes, in red, yellow, blue, white and black from top to bottom. If you need another Chinese flag for a different faction, why not use the old Imperial flag? (Or, a dragon passant azure, in canton a roundel gules)

Your image link is broken, but if you mean this flag:

then I'm almost certain it does say "Chinese flags". Certainly the character on the left is the symbol for China (or, technically, for "middle", as in "Middle Kingdom")

Can we get away with it? :D

I'm not sure about using the Imperial flag - especially seeing as the Qing dynasty was Manchu orientated, and these Warlords largely rose up in the south (around Canton and Yunnan).

Other than finding some sort of Cantonese flag, we're left with looking for something suitably 'warlordish'.

I think I have an idea for an Indian flag - use the post-1947 independence flag (I'm sure one of us must have it) and remove the spinning wheel from the middle.

I think for Warlord China, a plain yellow flag might do.

I'm sure there's someone knocking around who'll be keen to do the remaining flags - the above two, plus Austria, Makhnovshchina, Ulster and Syria.

I've found Mahnovshchina flag in one of my books today! It's even more absurd/funny than the whole Bat'ka Makhno state... It's a black banner with a silver (white) skull in the middle, two crossed bones (pirate style) below, a hammer in the top left corner (along NW-SE axis) and a sickle in the top right corner (along the NE-SW axis). The source stated that it was one of many flags used, so perhaps there were others. But I like this one :)
Cheers

Sounds interesting! Any chance of scanning it and giving it to the flag specialists for conversion?

Unfortunately not. The book is too expensive for me to buy at the moment and they wouldn't let me scan it. But the picture was just a drawing by some artist, not an actual photo, so that's not a problem a twenty minutes session with some graphics program wouldn't solve :)
Cheers

Indeed you did, and thank you very much as well :)

We might need you to do some more if your willing - even though I said we were done.

I've attempted some research, to no avail.

Probably those warlords didnt think much of being proper nation states, just "me me me".

Maybe we'll just have a flag with those Chinese characters on it, although I have no idea how to make one.....

No worries - I know a man who can
