The problem is how they are arranged - in a cross. When I think of artillery, I don't think of a symbol of two cannons crossed a la St. Andrew, but rather, I think of an artillery piece, set up how they would be on the battlefield.

I insist that some sort of heavy gun is used for the icon.

Something like this? This example is probably too detailed - and the logo should probably depict it as side on, not to mention it being a little shorter in length.

Ok, how's this?

And how about two crossed propellers for the heavier than air? ;)

That's fine with me, but there was some objection to using the crossed cannons. ;)

The propellors for the heavier-than-air should work just fine. A biplane might also work.

I was joking about the props. There's crossed rifles, crossed sabres, crossed cannons (and the crossed bones :)). Another cross would definitely be overkill.

I think the biplane would pose the same problem as the tank, though. As for the lighter than air, maybe a hot air balloon would work better than a zeppelin. ("Why is there a sausage tech tree?" :))

I must have missed the joke. ;) I get it now.

What about this?

No fair. StephenT can draw better than I can.

Although, I was using Microsoft Paint.

Those look pretty good.

Look up, I updated that last bar. It's silly to keep posting slightly different copies of the same image...

StephenT, those look pretty. Would you care to turn them into buttons? :)

I didn't see the biplane in your last version. It looks pretty good.

My favorite is still the priate button. ;)

Gwalcmai, looking good.

StephenT, that is a good representation of an artillery piece and a bi-plane.

See? The problem with my joke was being half plausible. :)

Look up. New gun.

Any more icons that need changing? Any of those unsatisfactory? If everyone agrees, I'll finish it up (do the silver ones) and either post them or send them in.

(BTW, I tried them in the game and they're working perfectly, in case you're worried... :))

About those flags: I've already pinched the top one for the Russian Federation (SIB) faction, so giving it to RUS as well will be awfully confusing.

The Tsarist one with the eagle might be better, although I have to say I think the St Andrew's Cross flag has a better recognition factor - it's certainly the one I think of first. (Compare a similar thing - the flag most people associate with Imperial Japan is actually the flag of their navy).

Arguably more people associate Wilhelmine Germany with the German war ensign than the standard black, white and red flag. Strangely, unlike yourself, I don't automantically associate Tsarist Russia with the Imperial Navy's flag - although I should think the Potemkin plays a part. Because 'the flag' for each country seems to be the national flag, then I think it might be best to give them the Tsarist flag with the eagle. :)
