How do these look for the industry tech icon? They probably need some fine-tuning.

Ok, this is how the techtypes bar is looking right now: (Yes, the gas one is crap)

If you want to try it out, drop it in mod_dir/GFX/interface/. Notice that I haven't done this... :)

The gas one is very good!

...although some people might mistake it for the 'pirates' tech tree.. ;)

So you think it's the other two that are crap, huh? :)

No, the factory is even better and I've already expressed my satisfaction with the house icon on another thread. :)

And the silver bar, too:

Drop in the same place. Notice the filenames, techtypes.bmp and techtypes_metal.bmp

Gwalcmai you the man! (Take no offense if you are in fact a woman.) :D

Looks great. Yeah if you could perhaps redo the the armor field to have a tank, and the artillery field to have a howitzer type gun. Perhaps you could also change the lighter than air to an zepplin, and the heavier than air to a bi-plane?

Personally I think they're all much better and more easily recognisable than that arm waving a sword for Armour or the big anarchist-type bomb for Artillery...

You know, I'd never even thought much about what the arty icon was supposed to be  . Now that you mention it, it IS a "cartoon" bomb. :)

Allenby, those might be somewhat tricky to make. A tank shaped blob will probably be a bit unrecognizable... As for the arty, maybe if the gun looked a bit "Napoleonic"?

Where will cavalry tech go, BTW? If it was in the tank tree it'd be a good excuse to use the crossed sabres. ;)

Cavalry tech does indeed go in to the armor tech category.

Great! How about the crossed sabres with a cog or wheel beneath? IIRC I've seen that for tanks. Or maybe it was something else beneath the sabres, but they were in.

That sounds fine :) We'll see how it comes out.

How about this for the artillery?

I am not much for photo editing, but you could start with this.

First attempt with that arty symbol made it look like some sort of strange knot. It may be a bit too detailed for the display size.

I don't think those crossed cannons relays the image of 'artillery' - a picture of a field gun or something similar ought to be fine. Even if it does look a tad 'Napoleonic' :)

What about this one instead?

EDIT: Allenby, just out of curiousity, what do the cannons bring to mind?

Steele

Big guns, artillery, heavy firepower and so on.

The problem with the crossed canons is that I think it will just look like a cross when converted into an icon, as opposed to a symbol meant to convey the idea of artillery.

I'm confused. Either I'm misunderstanding you, or you're misunderstanding me... I think. Isn't that what this icon is supposed to represent? And if so, than what is wrong with the cannons?

Gwalcmai, would you mind trying to convert the crossed cannons into an icon? I don't think we have anything else yet...

If it doesn't work, than I'm sure something else can be found. ;)
