Yeah buddy. Barely any variation at all. Populations are genetically distinct in terms of the shape of their skeletons, the color of their features, the diseases they contract, the foods they can eat, but WE ARE ALL THE SAME.

What the poster was saying is that there is more genetic variation inside a given "racial" group than between groups. This is a well known scientific fact, and it was the basis to demolish mid-20th century racist theories.

That ISN'T what he was arguing, and I don't disagree with that either. But it's one thing to say that there's more differences between individuals than there are between populations and quite another to say that populations don't exist, as we've done a damn good job of mapping out the distinctions between men and animals.

And all of this DOES matter for the game in determining what mechanics the game will include for breeding between populations. Suppose, for example, that you play as humans, or some other faction analogous to humans. Will there be other humanoids you can mix with? Will there be aliens you CAN'T mix with? To what extent will species split apart or converge?

otherwise known as Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family and Species. Yes i too was a fan of high school biology and was very pleased to hear the word Phenotype as opposed to Species for a change when talking scifi.
Out of curioisity, at what level of biological classification do you suppose the phenotypes vary? Is it at the level of class?

I'd like to see more exotic species than (animaltypehere)-men. Gasbags. Sentient plants. Hyper-intelligent shades of blue. etc.
Personally I'd prefer hyper-intelligent shades of pink. Blue is just such a cliche color. Everything is blue in science fiction. Seriously, just look up "science fiction" on Google images.

that's a good question.. have fun with this link

...lets just say i'm hoping for Fish, Bird, Marsupial, Lizard, Mammals, Amphibian, and Arthropods (which are are class or infraclass level)... I've never been a fan of Cephalopods.. it feels like they're hiding something beneath the waves that they just don't want us seeing.. that said i'm also not fond of sentient Amoeba or Fungi.. Tree people i can live with.. for he is grute.

Yes, but we want to know if Terran Humans are playable. Not just aliens that look human.
A developer did not want to answer that just yet.

A poster sporting the flag of a treacherous, slave holding, proto-fascist regime trying to defend the discredited concept of race. Who would've thought.

I am annoyed they are bi pedal. Why not something else. This is supposed to be aliens and not humans; aliens needn't have evolved to be bi pedal and have arms.

Well arm are kind of needed, evolved specie need prehension for use of tool, unless they have telekinesis, advanced morphing capability (a specie with non-Newtonian fluid body for example) or are simply energy based.

An anti-racist using nothing but a weak attempt at slander to try and drive me from the field. Know this: I don't approve of the slave-holding (as all it's given us is strife), but I've got nothing but respect for the fascists and would fight alongside them before I'd even shake hands with you.

You're not the moral authority here.

Now can we PLEASE get back to how this relates to Stellaris?

Technically, by criterium of self-identification, Pinochet was a generic militaristic autocrat and Franco ran a totalitarian dictatorship with fascistic elements that faded into bland far right cruelty over time. Mussolini is basically the only actual fascist :v

That's... your only reason for not approving of slavery?
