Does the number of divisions under a leader's command affect the rate at which he gains XP? I would imagine that indirectly it does, since more divisions means more units in battle under the same leader, thereby increasing the rate of incoming XP, but I'd like a confirmation on this.

How do I force units to travel via sea? I have guys on the tip of Italy and I want to to move them just across the sea to Albania, but when I right click on the port in Albania the game wants my troops to move by land alllll the way around the Adriatic sea (since I control all of Yugoslavia too). I want to force it to go by sea which is much quicker but I can't see any way to do this.

What's the difference with the upgraded synthetic factory technologies? I thought the techs would make them produce more output but that's not the case. Does it just let you build more of them in the same state?

How do I return expeditionary forces? I let Hungary send me some but I don't want them anymore. I don't see any way to return them via diplomacy or the individual units.

How does Carriers work? Do I need to build or put airplanes seperatly on them ? How do they get more planes ? What kind of planes do they use. ?

Carriers are built with air wings defined, you can edit these in the production tab when building the carriers, or by selecting the carriers after they are built (I think the default is 23 carrier based fighters and 23 carrier based naval bombers, but I'm away from the game and can't check at the moment). Carriers can hold fighters, CAS, and naval bombers.

These air wings will call for planes that will automatically reinforce as long as you have planes available. You will have to research the plane, then the carrier variant of the plane (the variant research icon is located in the upper right corner of the aircraft icon in the research screen). After that, start production of the variant and the planes will be sent to the carriers as they are produced (or sent to reserves if your carriers are full).

I've got one!

Will planes reinforce to carriers when the carrier is out at sea, or does it have to be in port?

Needing to be in port would make a lot more sense, but I haven't actually paid attention to how and when they reinforce.

how does staging a coup work? i picked a province for the origin of the coup, got all the weapons they need. do i now need to wait for an event to fire for it to start?

I was playing as Hungary and quickly joined the axis/germany and fabricated all my wargoals on slovakia. Declared war on slovakia and called in germany to help me out. Germany helped me loads, and after prague fell I then went to the peace treaty screen. I wanted to take slovakia and give germany czech, but for some reason I can't take the lands I conquered, but germany wants to take all? I've fought other wars as other countries and been able to demand all states from a conquered country, but I cannot find the option to take my conquered territory in this war.

Because Germany didn't just help you loads, they did all the work. That means they get to pick first. They picked "everything" and what's left for you is "nothing."

So if I fight better in the war, I'll get a better deal at the peace table?

EDIT: Just checked the end of my war, and germany had like 90% participation, no wonder lol...

Sorry, this is pretty noob, but I researched P-38s and now I want to create a P-38 wing but can't figure out how to do it. How to create an air wing with a new plane type? ???
I think you have to select the plane from the production tab and then start producing the new plane from your factories.

Did you build the P-38s? Once they are built, select the airbase you want to deploy them to. In the window that opens, there is a buttong on the upper right to create a new air wing.

How do i register HoI4 to my account?

Sync you Steam account with your Paradox account. You may have to restart Steam or log off Paradox and log back in, depending on where you are trying to get it registered.

I have a question I don't yet understand. What controls who takes occupancy of a province? Playing as Australia, noted Turkey joined on Axis so thought I'd try for Gallipoli achievement. I did a naval invasion of Italian Rhodes, and instead of me getting it, it went to Greek occupancy? Now every Turkish territory I push into is turning blue for Greece not Green for Australia? I've taken Gallipoli on my own rushing it with motorized, but not achievement as it's Greek occupied.

Only solution I can think of is to clear out my troops and hope Turkey beats Greece and then try again?

Thanks for your response. Will they stockpile if I don't have a unit to put them in? I had the impression from building things like artillery and carrier air groups that excess production just disappears. Maybe my impression was incorrect. If the planes stockpile and I can form a unit from them later, I think I can understand and do that.

Yes, it will go into stockpile if there is not a unit that uses it. Otherwise it will start upgrading existing units and put the old equipment into the stockpile.

Hi, new to the forums here. I just have a quick question: In production, why are some factories colored red and not producing anything? Below is an example of this:
