Did you build the P-38s? Once they are built, select the airbase you want to deploy them to. In the window that opens, there is a buttong on the upper right to create a new air wing.

Yes, this seems to be my problem. I was under the (apparently incorrect) impression that I could only build for existing units and that extra materiel doesn't stockpile

Oh, I see. Thanks for the answer! Also, I know this is a pretty stupid question, but you wouldn't happen to know how to repair those factories, would you...?
You repair factories and infrastructure in the construction tab. Civilian factories are used for the repairs. Infrastructure will repair on its own, but slowly. I'm not certain whether damaged factories do the same though. Does anyone else know that for sure?

Sync you Steam account with your Paradox account. You may have to restart Steam or log off Paradox and log back in, depending on where you are trying to get it registered.

I have done that but none of the sub forums show for me.

Also the HoI4 icon doesn't show in my profile, HoI4 does show in my games list though.

Why can't I execute a naval invasion? I'm launching from an allied port with Mac onto a nearby Japanese island but it won't let my launch the battle plan or assign troops to it. I do exactly what it says but nothing happens and it gives a sound that clearly means 'failed' but doesn't give me any reason why I can't assign a bunch of marines to a naval invasion. I also completely control the entire zone.

How do I force units to travel via sea? I have guys on the tip of Italy and I want to to move them just across the sea to Albania, but when I right click on the port in Albania the game wants my troops to move by land alllll the way around the Adriatic sea (since I control all of Yugoslavia too). I want to force it to go by sea which is much quicker but I can't see any way to do this.

I want to know this, too. Maybe I didn't control the Adriatic?

What's the difference with the upgraded synthetic factory technologies? I thought the techs would make them produce more output but that's not the case. Does it just let you build more of them in the same state?

The "better" techs permit you to put a second or third synthetic factory in the same state <yawn>

How do I return expeditionary forces? I let Hungary send me some but I don't want them anymore. I don't see any way to return them via diplomacy or the individual units.

End the war :) not sure of any other way, sorry.

Not sure if this has been asked, but...

What does the red sections of the naval region mission assignments indicate? Why is it red, and what do I do about that?

It doesn't seem to be red for my submarines, just for my non-submarine fleets.

I thought it had something to do with the tooltip indicator that says "We know too little about this region: 0.00%", but that is present for a sea region that is 100% green for me.

Here's a problem: sorry if it's been dealt with elsewhere.

Playing as USA and Allies against Germany and then, USSR, due to extensive bordergore from liberated territory and territory conquered by allies, the create Front Line command didn't work well. Some "front lines" were just 1-2 provinces wide. Trying to "edit" it by dragging had no result. This made creating large battle plans difficult/impossible

Anyone know a workaround?

As Japan I went for an early war against the Netherlands for those sweet oil and rubber but after having occupied all those sweet province, it downed on me: How the hell do I declare peace now? I don't think I can invade all the way into the Netherlands proper and since I went into forming my own faction, I can't rely either on Germany to take them out. Am I stuck in war until Germany decides to get them out of the picture or is there another way?

I would love to know the answer to this. I confess, I outright cheated to force a peace after occupying the whole of Indonesia, and just took those provinces and left em their own nation afterwards.

I'm somewhat tempted to join axis, do war, leave axis, but, well, not sure how much warscore id have to spend if the germans take over the netherlands, since that has the majority of the victory provinces.

Did anyone figure out the way to force naval transport yet? I have the exact same issue with Italy with divisions on the 'boot' and want to move them North Africa. They want to go all the way around by land through Turkey. I have plenty of convoys too.

Nevermind I figured it out. You have to click precisely on the anchor icon of the port you want to go to.

Does anybody know how and when do bloodless coups happen?
By that I mean that is when a party overthrows the government without a civil war.

Looks like one way is: have political advisory of different ideology, have that ideology support be > 40%, must not be a puppet country, or a major country, and must have got an event which gives government support for the ideology.
Once all that is true the mean time to happen is 100 days, becomes 50 days once ideology support becomes > 50%.
Of course, at the same time it is possible to get events which cause a civil war instead, I think the way events are set up makes it more likely in general to get the coup rather than a civil war, but civil war becomes slightly more likely to happen if an event option which gives popular support is chosen.

Also it looks like moving to democracy takes a bit longer than with fascism or communism, also you need >50% (who woulda thought :) ) democracy support before you can get an event to hold elections and switch.

Then as well there are events which DO NOT require a ideological political adviser which can switch your government.

Once ideological support for a group becomes >50% (and you are not a puppet nation) you will get an event which lets you pick to either; lose 100PP to lower the offending ideology popularity by 10% (and get a revolutionaries modifier for a year), or just get the modifier for a year, or lastly give in and embrace the new ideology and lose 5% national unity.

If you chose an option which gives revolutionaries instead of switching ideology, then if that ideology gets support > 70%, you will quickly (mtth = 2 days) get a civil war vs that ideology (I think you get to pick a side?)

Relevant event file is in (events\PoliticalEvents.txt) in your HOI4 install directory.
