Quick question: Was I, USSR, supposed to begin justifying against Poland as soon as I sign the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact? Germany just declared war on Poland but I have no war goal and no opportunity to declare war. Will the agreed states still be transferred even if I don't participate? (Is there anyway to go to war sooner? Because I want some army experience.)

Is there anyway to go to war sooner? Because I want some army experience.
When the Germans invade Poland you can start justifying on Finland and the Baltic states.
The second ones will usually fold without war, but Finland should give you the war you want.

I have tried to find out, and I have been reading in the MtG dairy, that the faction leader has certain advantages. I ask this because as the USA I am trying to find out if the 200 pp is worth it, in a single player game. Other than the obvious benefits of having more control on who is in the faction, what other benefits are there??? .... Tech sharing? control of exiled troops or gain of manpower from exiles? it would be nice to see a link to the dev diaries involved in this but honestly I would rather see a definitive list of what you get if you take control of the Allies as the USA. Second importance to me, is in general, what advantages you get, in case this is different than what the USA gets (for being special). :D

When I play as the UK I get a large number of factories from exiled nations + generals from those nations + decisions to get extra army/navy/air xp from exiled nations.

And free units (of sometimes weird templates)

It's very useful as UK which needs such things. As the USA you can probably do without as you have enough already.

The dev diary is here: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/hoi4-dev-diary-mtg-bag-of-tricks.1113934/.
Both the dev diary and the wiki just speak vaguely of "all the benfits" and "much larger degree of control", but to my knowledge there aren't any significant advantages besides the ones you mentioned. It's almost impossible to come up with a definitive list though, definitely not a quick answer. For example the faction leader has a slight bonus in the decision who gets to control a captured state (see https://hoi4.paradoxwikis.com/Warfare#State_control) but this (and probable similar interactions) were never mentioned by the developers. The faction leader is also always considered a major power, but due to the industry requirements, you'll be a major already when fulfilling the requirements in all but the smallest factions.

Playing an Axis Canada campaign, it's 1944 and I annexed the US, occupied Mexico, and kicked the Allies out of the hemisphere. Now I'm sending my divisions over to Sub-Saharan Africa. What's a good template for fighting in Africa? Particularly West Africa

Africa has severe supply problems. Add logistics support companies. South Africa has tolerable infrastructure and supplies, but nothing between that and the northern coast really does. So use small units (the sort of thing you might use in China or Siberia, not 40w artillery divisions). You might want to build your own infrastructure for supply lines, and take ports with naval invasion. Crossing from the Mediterranean coast through the desert is difficult; better to go around.

logistics yes; maintenance if it is a mobile unit with lots of equipment

small units, cavalry can be cost effective for mobile purposes and outrunning enemy units

building an infra highway from a main supply base can increase supply flow to your advantage

I released the US as a fascist puppet and its name was Free American Empire but then changed to Confederate States of America after a few seconds. What determines which name the fascist US takes?

Bothering to open up a new thread while this one still is a valuable asset to find stuff i have a few quickies i did not find a sufficient answer to:

1) Putting a field marshal in the position of a general (lower echelon of the command chain) - can he still gain the commander traits of a general? Is his overall skill gain (via experience) affected in any way?

2) Is it cheaper to upgrade a ship in production (say: heavy batteries II into level III on a half finished battleship) or would it be better to have the ship finished first and then upgrade?

3) Does the panzer leader trait finally add 5% speed bonus or is it still not functional as the wiki indicates?

4) AFAIK, MOT divisions count as cavalry as well as they do as infantry. Thus a commander having both traits (cavalry leader AND infrantry leader) should grant bonuses in both regards, wouldn't he? How do those division types and commander traits actually interact - in short?

Thanks in advance!

1. Yes he can still get XP towards general traits this way. His experience gain will be the same as if identical general were assigned to his post.

2. You can't upgrade ship in production IIRC - (I haven't played with navy recently so my memory could be a little bit hazy - or game in general :p)

3. Unfortunately it still doesn't work

4. No, Motorized Divisions only count as Motorized Divisions. In Vanilla they do not benefit from buffs that target Cavalry or Infantry divisions (such as Advisors, General Traits and so on).
Cavalry divisions classify as both Infantry and Cavalry divisions. In such case - any buffs will stack.
e.g. -
Cavalry Attack +20%
Infantry Attack +10%
Cavalry Defense +15%
Infantry Defense +5%

Would result in Cavalry Division getting +30% Attack and +20% Defense

with all that industrial power, just keep building ports, also if theres no much enemies theres u simply dont bother with supply, just spread u force into supply areas. normally i invade with 24 or 48 divisions of regular 20w INF.

Armor, engines, and big guns are generally considered the items that aren't cost-effective to upgrade. Major refits are expensive enough and slow enough that you might as well just build a new ship (and have two ships when you're done).

For the lesser components, when you're expecting some new items from research during the construction period, consider designing a ship with empty slots where you expect the upgrades to go. That's cheaper than putting on current tech during initial construction, and then paying to rip it back out again and then paying to install the new item.

Thanks for your swift replies! :)

Thank god for this thread. I have so many questions and comments. I don't want to make 100 threads. Is there a Garrison order that will make my troops defend for example mainland Europe from invasion by the Allies and take care of it completely If I give them enough troops? I'm trying to concentrate on another front.

Can someone show me what all the Division templates are for all the German volunteer/SS Divisions you can recruit? They seem like good templates. Also, I don't understand the choice that it presents you with when you click it. The first two options say they have the exact same % risk so it doesn't seem like there's a point in siding with the Wehrmacht.

Has anyone ever experienced a bug where the Soviet fleet is stuck in Leningrad and won't come out no matter what? Even when you own the province.

Can someone show me what the historical order of Focus choosing is for Germany? I know there's a file somewhere for each country that shows this.

There used to be a bug like this: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...e-task-forces-stay-in-captured-ports.1167356/ Maybe some variant of the bug has survived; if you have a reproducible test case, you can open a new bug.

At least the suppression garrison (probably other types like coastal garrison too) will attack enemy provinces in its area, but they don't do so in a very coordinated way so it would only work if your garrisons are vastly superior to the enemy. Maybe something like one garrison army with infantry on all coastal tiles plus a small suppression garrison with tanks that mops up any landings could work, but I haven't tried it.

I've laid 444 mines in the English Channel and 0 kills. Why? I've only gotten a single kill with mines and I've put them all over the world. Are they broken?
Especially later in the game, the AI becomes very passive with its fleets. Maybe they only have strike forces there, sitting in port. If you are not playing ironman, while the game is paused, you can use the console command "tag ENG" to take a look what they are doing and "tag GER" to get back.
I feel like it takes way too long to send Lend Lease. Anyone else?
It takes a month for the first delivery to arrive, except fuel which is delivered continuously. Every time the lend-lease is modified, the timer gets reset. You can see the progress in the diplomacy view of a country, by hovering over the lend-lease status on the left side.
What's the purpose of creating a Reichskommissariat as Germany? I don't see any benefit.
Not having to garrison those areas and historical flavor.

The number can be reset after load a new save. Or they only display for the last 12 months. The mines don't hurt convoy, only hurt much if the ship is active on that zone (not strike force). If the ships is active elsewhere and you don't fight them, those ships don't need to return to port for repair. Just mining all the coast of UK.

Bitmode, you are so helpful! Could you tell me how you make those Spoiler parts of your posts? I can see how nice it is to reduce the size of some posts with pictures.
