Chapter One Thousand-Sixty : Tiger Hunt!

C4idosvm_o.jpg

This chapter opens in early February, of the year 947 AD, with the Empress learning some good news. Slightly delivered late but still good.

mivWLuGM_o.jpg

Seems the Exarchessa of Nepal had passed, with her Lords approval of course, the Slightly Levy Focused Noble Obligations Law. Which meant the Nobles would be giving her soldiers instead of coins.

Would would make her loyal Vassal even more powerful.

Ci6rR0zc_o.jpg

So she decided to celebrate by deciding to kill one of nature’s most beautiful and dangerous creatures. A Tiger Hunt was announced! Riders were sent out with invites as the Hunters and Guides and Courtiers debated where to hold the hunt.

1ximCpSv_o.jpg

Of course there was always the one trouble maker who refused. In this case it was Simonis Toxias. Not REALLY a surprise.

But the planning continued. Wine was selected, food was packed, horses and mules were prepared, weapons were cleaned, and the camp site was selected.

1CYyjAii_o.jpg

In late February the Hunting Party was off to the site. On arrival they sent up tents, started up the cooking fires, and posted Guards to protect the camp.

While riding her Imperial Elephant, and enjoying a few bottles of wine, she received some good news.

z5F6f5PS_o.jpg

Seems the Countess of Lhoyu had disbanded her movement to bring Gavelkind Succession in Kamarupa. Which meant there was now only THREE Factions.

“That’s another reason to celebrate!” exclaimed the Empress as she opened another bottle. Or two.

s2qKLaat_o.jpg

Then in early March, as she was enjoying some fresh fruit while riding her Elephant she was brought news that the Scouts had found a tiger.

“Give me a spear!” she shouted as she was helped down from the Elephant’s Imperial platform. “I will kill it myself!”

She grabbed a spear from one of the Guards and headed into the thick undergrowth.

Join us next chapter when the Empress confronts the tiger. Will she kill it? Will it kill her? Will they kill each other? Why the cliffhanger?

A Tiger Hunt was announced!
I thought she was going to give them up? Anyway, the cliffhanger sounds a bit ominous, especially if she’s guzzled a bit too much grog. Perhaps the tiger will finally get its revenge against the Royal serial killer of its furry friends.

Chapter One Thousand-Sixty-One : Happy Tiger

EH0EOci2_o.jpg

This chapter opens in early March, of the year 947 AD, with the Empress heading out with a spear to fight the tiger.

MXjRQrPL_o.jpg

But the tiger was ready for her and leapt at HER. She stumbled and was wounded as the tiger attacked her with fangs and claws.

The soldiers rushed in with their weapons and forced the tiger to retreat. No doubt to brag to all its friends about how it had wounded the Empress.

GsPgJt3X_o.jpg

The Empress was examined and while she was wounded it was decided she would recover.

As the tents were pulled down, the equipment packed, and the Hunting Party prepared to leave the site the Empress received a letter, via owl, from the Conucil.

6xWBeOkv_o.jpg

Seemed Count Girgen “The Unready” of Viraja had passed, with his Lords’ approval, the Title Revocation Allowed Law. Which made him even more powerful as he could now take titles away from his vassals.

This was good news. But it did little to cheer her up as she was rocked back and forth in the Imperial Elephant Platform she was riding in.

K7ATS8Ve_o.jpg

Then she received news that the arranged marriage between Jayanarayan of the House Pala, who had turned 16, and Pelagia, her daughter, could finally happen.

Of course she replied in agreement with the proposed marriage. Which she was sure SHE had proposed.

Gr1o8u2P_o.jpg

As she waited for a reply she, and the Hunting Party, finally returned to the Imperial Capital. She and the rest were met with cold stares of unwelcoming people. Mothers pulled their children into their homes so not to be exposed to the failure of the Empress and her Hunters.

On top of that her wounds seemed to announce just what a horrible failure the hunt had been. Men looked away in shame and cats seemed to smile at her in amusement.

As she entered the Castle she pondered maybe TRULY never hunting tigers again. She WAS getting old.

And happy reader! :p
cats seemed to smile at her in amusement.
:) Lord Meow-Meow and Ruriksi would approve.

Good advice to herself. She should listen! Stop the tiger hunting - find something more wholesome to do. Like conquering neighbours, murdering rivals, etc. ;)

Chapter One Thousand-Sixty-Two : EWWWWW!

“Hey Daughter-In-Law…Hehehehe”

This chapter opens in early April, of the year 947 AD, with the Empress receiving good news. The father, and Liege, of Jayanarayan had agreed to the young man’s marriage to Pelagia.

BiQgXOg8_o.jpg

The Empress was pleased. Or at least as pleased as a wounded woman stuck in bed who was high on pain killers COULD be

FRUtQKo8_o.jpg

In May she was told even better news. The Independence Faction led by Exarch Danujmadhava of the Pala Kingdom had folded. She was very pleased.

KeZnLQQP_o.jpg

Then she received not so pleasing news. Seems the Duchess of Bhar Raj was plotting to kill Yajnavati “The Unfaithful”. Her Daughter-In-Law. Who had given birth to a son who WAS not the offspring of the Duchess’s son.

Yajnavati was an Adulteress who had been fooling around with her….well…Father-In-Law. The Duchess’s husband.

0DuyGS9e_o.jpg

The son, Bhogishwar Bhar was pissed. He saw his father as his Rival and an Adulterer who had fooled around with his wife! In fact nobody was happy with the Doux.

Yajnavati, on the other hand, loved the man. Not only because they were Lovers. But the Doux had Legitimized the Child! Which meant the boy was his legal son. And grandson via the boy's legal father?

e7BpZvCE_o.jpg

The Empress felt sorry for the boy who was in the middle of this mess. And was the brother of his brother/father?!?!

“My head hurts,” grumbled the Empress. “More pain killers.”

CK does like father helping his son to keep the dynasty pure. I do not think that I have ever seen woman with her son-in-law. Though I did have a man leave his unfaithful wife's court for her mother's. Thanks

It does cause the head to hurt and I do not have the Empress' meds.

Chapter One Thousand-Sixty-Three : Black Eye

OsCpWQvS_o.jpg

This chapter opens in mid May, of the year 947, with the Empress getting some fearful news.

AE8bKt3L_o.jpg

Seems the Duchess Expraxia II of Varendra had been wounded AND had a black eye. The Courtiers assumed, being she was a duelist, she had received it during a duel. She already had ONE scar. Now, once the new wound healed, she would have another.

The question was….who gave it to her? Who had fought her?

P0WmDNNR_o.jpg

One theory was it was her Rival, the Shaman Torolchi of Aska, who was also a duelist. But the Courtiers pointed out there was more than one likely suspect.

n5NWUjIn_o.jpg

The Courtiers suggested the Doux Dionysios III of Kathmandu might have been the one to wound her.

This man was the Duchess’s preferred war target. Also he was a duelist. Though, he was missing a hand, and therefore might not have been the best swordsmen. Had he punched the Duchess with his stump?

In the end nobody really knew what had happened. But the Empress was somewhat worried. She was wounded and her HEIR was now wounded. Not the best thing to happen to a Dynasty.

Chapter One Thousand-Sixty-Four: So Many Grumpy People

JvmbgBMq_o.jpg

This chapter opens in late May, of the year 947 AD, and there was some good news

mE0bM1EH_o.jpg

The Empress’s wound had healed. Giving her, what she thought of, as a sexy scar.

lMDV0EG1_o.jpg

Either way, at least she didn’t need the pain killers. And with her mind clear she noticed something important.

MuUbPGEi_o.jpg

The Exarchessa Rajamati of Nepal had joined the movement to Increase the Imperial Council’s Power. Also it seems the woman had become a drunk. How sad.

x76f12Rz_o.jpg

But it also brought to her attention that the Factions of the Empire was down to TWO. And that meant she COULD try to influence some of the members of the movements to leave them. Maybe.

One of the trouble makers was Bhikkhu Nikephoros of Para-Lauhitya who had also wounded himself while dueling. He liked the Empress but not enough to stay out of politics.

gWO7Xwtf_o.jpg

The Empress sent him some cash to help him, maybe, think about leaving the Increase the Council’s Power Faction.

The Duchess Eustathia “The Ill-Ruler” of Tirabhukti was also part of the same movement.

f8FeinAC_o.jpg

The Empress also sent her money to try to improve the woman’s opinion of her Liege.

U5J4CiFK_o.jpg

Then there was Doux Bhogishwar “The Wise” of the Bhar Raj who pretty much hated his Liege and was also part of the movement to Increase the Council’s Power.

thTv4keZ_o.jpg

She gave him money and a title. But it failed. His opinion of her was still in the negative.

But maybe enough of them would leave the movement to force it to fall apart?

There must be a lot of gold bulging in the chests of the treasury to be splashing it around so liberally on these wasters and malcontents!

Chapter One Thousand-Sixty-Five : Daily Decisions - Part One

v26VUO2f_o.jpg

This chapter opens in early June, of the year 947 AD, with the Empress wishing to do more to bring many of her Vassals to her side. Or at least make them harmless.

Rsapd5JM_o.jpg

For example, the Count Dan of Dulan, still disliked his Liege. Even after all she had done for him. Like, you know, let him live.

dIEmqRsT_o.jpg

So she tossed him some coins. About forty-four gold coins of wealth. Which helped a tad.

b7PIgo9T_o.jpg

Then later that month the Mayor Polykarpos of Manikuta offered some money to buy some land in the Province of Kamarupanagara.

The Empress decided against it. While she would get some short-term gain in cash she would no longer receive taxes from the plot of land. At least for a short time.

Funny enough this did not seem to upset the Mayor.

grGZ2WkD_o.jpg

Then Sotapanna Vijnayavati contacted the Empress and asked if she had any interest in learning more about roses. Seemed she had produced a new rose. Again.

The Empress, wanting to get out of the Palace, agreed. And soon she was on the road again. Roughing it with her traveling wagon, hundreds of Servants and Guards, and three course meals. The horror.

Medieval Ethics
This chapter opens in late June, of the year 947 AD, with the Empress being told that Princess Bhogavati of the Pala Kingdom, one of her Wards, was overthinking about things like justice and fairness.

m3MuT7UO_o.jpg

The Empress decided not to get involved.

EMlZfIz9_o.jpg

Funny enough the girl became Just. Which wasn’t a BAD thing for a wife and future Ruler.

LGlCvbJg_o.jpg

Then in June somebody somebody became the new Guardian of somebody somebody. The Empress didn’t know who they were and didn’t care.

J8GdmsN8_o.jpg

Then that same somebody somebody, in July, grabbed somebody else’s ward. Once again the Empress didn’t care. Her mind was starting to wander and she was finding it hard focus on the smaller details.

CM6ArYtL_o.jpg

In fact when the Buddhist Society asked her to spend more time thinking on matters of the soul and inner peace she declined.

S6JeAQMu_o.jpg

Then there was news that the Countess of Lhoyu was being a trouble maker again. She had joined the movement to increase the Imperial Council’s Power.

yR9mD5Bf_o.jpg

Then there was news somebody somebody, you get the idea.

The Courtiers assumed that some of the Vassals were using the Guardian system to bring future Rulers under their control. They questioned the ethics of such power moves.

But the Empress didn’t care really. She could not see a pattern in what was happening and didn’t see it as a threat. At least not a threat towards her and the Empire.

P7F9pie6_o.jpg

By late July the Empress finally arrived at Vijnayavati’s home to visit her garden. She was asked to help but declined knowing she wasn’t as skilled at gardening as she liked to think.

PMayeJXS_o.jpg

But it worked as Vijnayavati was pleased with the praise. Which was good. The Empress had made a good impression on her. Now if she could just handle the other Vassals in her Realm in the same way.
