As we tech up in Fuel Efficiency (which reduces our fuel consumption and increases our gas mileage), I've been slowly adding a power boost to all of our engines (which reduces our gas mileage again, but boosts our speed). In effect, I've been turning "Fuel Efficiency" research into "Supercharged Engines" research.

The speeds we are getting from this generation of engines is probably good enough for us to take on the Precursors.

We should start scouting out one of their star systems, and making specific plans.

What is the status of that ELINT vessel we were building?

All three models are ready.

Spy (Passive Sensors)
Agent (Active Sensors)
Provocateur (ELINT).

Sounds like a plan then :)

I'd like to upgrade a few of our Fleet first, though... just in case we end up accidentally revealing the jump point.

Precursors can jump if you show them where the jump point is. They just can't SEARCH for jump points.

Yeah, that would be bad.

Most of our shipyards are either retooling for a upgraded design, or expanding slightly so that they can retool for a upgraded design.

Can you evacuate the system you are jumping into the precursors from, so in the worst case scenario you simply write it off for a few decades?
There's an inhabited planet. And a few installations.

We have to upgrade our fleet anyway before we try to wipe these guys out.

It won't hurt us to wait until some part of it is upgraded before sneaking our scouts in.

If I remember correctly that system contains just a single naval base with a squad of sabres.

That may have changed though.
Edit: or I am completely wrong and get Emued:)

I don't think we have to risk that though. If we bring the fleet - or even just some laser warships and some support like sensor vessels and maintenance ships - we can just picket that jump point and kill anything that comes through while it's still jump-shocked.

Yes, jump shock is a big ally especially for Laser gunships.

Each ship might get half a dozen free shots at short range before he gets his computers back on-line.

Best case scenario: Sabre and Blaze class ships can dictate range and out range the precursors, making the battle a running turkey shoot like the Jerx.

Worst case scenario: jumping in reveals the jump point and they follow back and slaughter everything in system.

At least that is what the two extremes look like to me. My concern is mostly focused on cost and damage limitation in the case of the second.

I think it's neither of those. This is a scouting mission, not a combat mission. If we're in that system with warships during it we're doing something wrong.

And if they come out, we'll have an ambush ready. There will only be a running battle if they survive that and given the firepower involved I see that as extremely unlikely.

Not gonna happen.

We counted just under 30 of them, including both military and civilian signatures. We might have missed some, of course.

This refit will give us a higher top speed than almost all of their ships (us: 8400, them: 7500). They'll have a hard time wiping us out.

We also have over 1,000 Fighters built, and we have 20 towed hangars each holding 26 or 29 Fighters, plus about three dozen Carriers of various sizes.

Even if we disregard jump shock it's hard to imagine what sort of enemy force it would take to break one of our jump point blockades, if we were serious about it.

We provably should take the closets og their two systems first. The one kliks from Earth.

True. Perhaps better take the second system first then.

How long does jump shock effect them?

They can't have upgraded their ships too?

What's the difference between towed hangars and carriers?

How long does jump shock effect them? - Anywhere from one to three minutes in my experience. Inexperienced crews suffer from it more, as do any ships using Jump Gates or a shared Jump, instead of Squadron Jump by formation.

They can't have upgraded their ships too? - Hazards? No.

What's the difference between towed hangars and carriers? - Towed Hangars have no engines. They need a Tug.
