So the ideal scenario is they waste all their missiles against the JP camping ship before jumping into the ambush? With wasting all the missiles and running away a close second?
Ghe issue is they might not follow if they're out of missiles.

Yup.

Naturally I'll place a whole task force on the jump point, not just a single ship, once the Modrons get closer to missile range.

The Admiral is there for its EM sensor signature.

so we don't get intel until we drop them on a colony, and when we do, we get intel incrementally, not all at once.
As you yourself found out, the intelligence is gained at the moment of rescuing a lifepod. It just might not reveal any concrete information right away. I should have checked the forums last night, I could have answered your question over there too :D

I'm sure you are right about how it works, I am just baffled at the timing. If we get an intelligence report for every 100 intel points, I don't get why we got reports several days after we picked up the lifepods, and why there were several hours between the two...?

The prisoner intel may have been gained as we were picking up the prisoners from the Red 1 life-pods.

Not sure.

The exact times of the two intel announcements are shown in the two posts, but I didn't record the exact time of the sixteen life-pod recoveries.

The current situation is that the Red 2 force is again hiding in stealth mode, somewhat less than two billion km from the ambush site at the jump to Lernea.

I'll see if we can get them moving again.

The enemy Red 2 force has briefly turned their RADAR back on for a quick look around.

They were last spotted at Waypoint 11 - I dropped a new waypoint there specifically to mark the contact - and if you extend a line from Waypoint 11 through their current position and onward, it precisely intersects the jump point to Lernea where we have organized our ambush.

They appear to have gotten their copy of the script.

That most recent sighting of Red 2 was at 1.5 billion km from the ambush site.

At Red 2's fleet speed of 13,608 kps that's 30 hours away. --- EDIT: Now 26 hours away.

Battle impends!

All of the Gunships are back at 100% ammo except for one Phalanx (at 94%).

The Fighters have long since been re-armed with modern missiles. The AMM-PD ships as well.

Some of the empty Tenders are headed back to Earth.

If they've been advancing at constant speed, then Red 2 should be about here:

Meanwhile, Red 3 is getting ready for a real convoy massacre. This should use up the last of their missiles.

Contact.

sc-2725.jpg

Again, we see them only because they've intentionally turned on their AWACS RADAR.

Naturally that contact will be the entire enemy fleet of sixteen ships. We only see two because only two are using their RADAR.

They are 200 million km from the Colony ship that carries the prisoners. 350 million km from our pair of Intel ships.

Somebody just fired.

That could be either Red 2 firing at the Colony ship carrying the prisoners, or Red 3 firing at that stack of Freighters.

Red 2 has decided to go convoy raiding as well.

Red 3 expends four more missiles on civvie Freighters.

Now 264 missiles expended.

We assume the fleet is all 16 ships because it is AI. Bit we only know about the radar sources we can see. I wish the ai was smart enough to distract us with the 2 while sneaking up on us with the 14. That would be awesome from a gaming perspective.

That looks like two more missile launches, AFTER the Freighter was wrecked.

Both Red 2 and Red 3 getting stuck into some convoy raiding?

Missiles for everybody!

THREE more missile salvo launches.

Red 2 seems to be interested in a group of 15 Freighters and one Colony ship.

Four missiles each would probably kill them all, at a total cost of 64 missiles.

Fourteen missiles for the Colony ship!

Over-kill is best kill!

Now 278 missiles expended in total. These ones from Red 2.

Those were the Red 1 survivors... not if Red 2 has any say in the matter.
