Unfortunately our shields are limited to 480 hit points by our tech level. So a ship that was all shield would still be no tougher than a Winged Hussar or Hoplite.

A military Rock with a 480-point shield and very thick armor is possible... but because it is Military it would compete for available slipways with other military ships.
Does shields always mean military? If not, why.cant we then build a civvie rock?

Shields are always military gear, yes... actually, I haven't actually checked really tiny ones... but even if they were CIV they would only absorb a few hit points.

We are already building civvie Rocks.

Check out the speed of that puppy!

Not bad for a civilian vessel that is dragging around 20 layers of armor.

Ah. How does the amount of bodies available effect the research? - It doesn't.
Well, couldn't that be useful for if we use terraforming to gas them? - True.
Could have sworn we had more.
Or is it on teh salvagers we have more? - The Salvagers carry 25,000 points of tech data.
Won't we get engines soon, though? - Sort of soon-ish. And not the Practicals. Just the Theoretical. We'll get the paired Power Plant tech soon.

I just now realized that those Rocks are just small enough (at 104,000 tons!) to squadron jump with a Portal class jump tender (110,000 tons).

That would leave the Portal immobilized, since a ship making a squadron jump avoids the jump point (that's the whole point) and the Portal has no engine.

... but it would allow us to "insert" a squadron of 13,700 kps Rocks into his back-field, avoiding the ambush.

Another polite suggestion.

The Winged Hussars have finished overhaul at the Harmony anchorage, and are joining the Gunships.

Now composed of twelve Emotion IIs, four Winged Hussar IIIs and eight Phalanxes.

Is there any hope to put the Hussars under a training command (with a high rating admiral) AT THE FRONT, and get their ratings higher (even if only some of the way)? Or would that handicap them too much if the Modrons come busting through the WP?

Could the Modron homefleet be dran away from the ump point?

Or we supercharge them further still.
Imagine if we can go say .9c!

The way that tech line works is such that every subsequent step gets bigger in terms of fuel usage as well as performance. I'm not sure how far we've boosted them so far but I would not be suprised if the next step increased fuel usage by a factor of 10 or more.

That tech line is meant for designing fighter engines and such. You can't do it endlessly.

I think awacs is warranted as spies might be in the opposite end of our Reich when we need them. Having dedicated awacs to go with emotions seems good. Especially if they also have much longer ranges sensors. As iiirc the spies at times had trouble keeping track of thr fast moving foes.

Yeah, me too. Just.. less important than more PD at this stage ;)

Could have sworn we had more.

The freighters were a disappointment. That's a lot of engines that won't help us.

In hindsight we could have used a few high speed boardings without trying to cripple ships to get more. But it is what it is and we have a lot of salvage. It might be enough.

Speaking of: how many marines companies would fit in a troop transport? If we can have a ship filled to the brim with boarding parties in the fleet train we can try a few boardings like that if we don't get the engines before then.

We are already building civvie Rocks.

If you put a tractor beam on it it might even be useful outside of combat :D

If it's helpful I'm game to help these guys get crew training faster.

Well, I meant keep the current level of supercharge and then the base speeds rise as we get better and better engines.

Couldn't it be worthwhile even if we have got engines? As other tech we'd want too.
