We have retooled a shipyard for the new Gate Constructors,

Two and a half times faster than the obsolescent early model. More than three times the cruising range.

This should get us to Planet X in the Sol system, and to a few other difficult-to-reach localities as well.

I would LOVE to get to the B star in the 61 Cygni system... we don't even know if it's inhabited or not.

Happycat Senior (the Explorer) has finished surveying the 62 Hydrae star system; finding a wealth of minerals in the comets as well as four new jump points leaving Known Space. On his return to Earth he will retire from military service and open a school.

We're down to 70,000 repair parts on Earth... we were over 250,000 at one point... so I'm throwing another 1,000 maintenance facilities into the queue.

Mostly it's the stuff I'm building that is blowing the repair part budget.

The ships launch with full lockers, so each Whetstone Collier launched takes thousands of repair parts away with it.

EDIT:

Four more Blaze III Spinal Destroyers come off the ways, making 20 of that model in total.

We'll pause production until I get the damned repair part shortage licked.

EDIT:

Down to 40,000 spares on hand.

How many repair parts do we need to produce to cover it?

Nikolai II-B is now researching Electronic Counter-Counter-Measures (to penetrate enemy ECM).

You are now 34 and your research bonus is already +50%.

We're building lots of repair parts. I saw the total go up by about 3,000 parts in one five-day build cycle. So we're building plenty of them.

We're just USING an insane amount of them, because I've been building a crapload of Colliers (mostly for the Sabres and Gunships), each of which launches with full spares lockers carrying thousands of repair parts.

I should just pause ship construction for a few months and build up a decent stockpile of spares.

So you build enough parts to cover launching one Collier a month, at the moment. Should be possible to calculate how many more maintenance facilities you need, from there.

The first four Passive Sensor equipped Spy class Stealth Scouts have been launched.

One of our Forum members has requested an Agent class (with the Active Sensor), which are already under construction. Another one wanted a Provocateur class (with the ELINT module), and we'll be retooling for them within a few months. I don't recall anyone asking for a Spy class...

We'll test one out against the Rakhas. I'll use a Carrier to transport it there.

Building eight at a time, each requiring 5.3 months and carrying 3,024 maintenance spares is about 4,600 maintenance spares per month...

... but there is also the rest of our builds, such as the eight Mountain class Fleet Support Vessels which each carry nearly 11,000 spares on board and require just over a year to build; that's another 7,200 spares per month... and so on.

I think I'll just continue my current system of plodding along obliviously until a crisis develops, and then freaking out over it.

We are preparing for a spy mission to the Rakhas planet in Lalande 21185, far to spinward ot Earth.

sb-805.jpg

We will send a Tanker on ahead, because they are so slow compared to a warship. Once the Tanker is in position in Lacaille 9352 (at the end of our Gate network) we will send Iche Bins with a Fleet detachment that includes a Fleet Support Vessel carrying a Spy class Stealth Scout inside its hangar.

They will refuel and the Spy (alone) will jump through and sneak up on the Rakhas planet.

Does anyone want the Spy class Passive Sensor Stealth Scout?

Seeing as I was so harshly passed over for a research position, I suppose I could lead a stealthy lurker mission.
All of our starting characters seem to be in their 70's... maybe the Emu is getting senile.

Did you want to command the ESN Mata Hari, or would you prefer a different name?

After 60 years, our Empire is still very Earth-centric. Virtually all of the manufacturing and ship-building takes place on Earth, or in Earth orbit.

Still... this is exactly as predicted.

Earth will gradually shift to industries that don't require any mineral input... to Financial Centers and Research Labs, for example, which require only population and money to operate... while the mineral-intensive industries such as manufacturing and shipbuilding will be slowly shifted closer to the new mines.

It might be a gradual process requiring centuries to run its course.

The Tankers are in position at the Lacaille 9352 => Lalande 21185 jump point... they can go no further because there is no gate on the jump point... so Iche Bins' squadron is being despatched to join them and refuel.

The ESN Everest carries the Spy ship ESN Mata Hari in its hangar deck.

Iche Bins' force has reached the Lacaille 9352 star system, and has refueled from the tankers parked at the Lalande 21185 jump point.

Only RobbieAB in the ESN Mata Hari Spy class Scout Ship will actually enter the Rakhas system.. unless things turn ugly. The rest of the squadron will stand by.

A RADAR target cross section even smaller than a Fighter, top speed of 9,000 kps but uses thermally suppressed engines (ie: reduced thermal signature) so it's likely to creep around at reduced speed anyway, trying to be completely invisible. Powerful EM and Thermal passive sensors.

The Mata Hari launches from the ESN Everest, and procedes to the jump point.

In theory, we should be able to assisted-jump the Mata Hari through into the Rakhas star system.
