Seven of our 23 ships are now silent for lack of spares.

Our Admirals have Point Defense missiles! Let's close in and try a few salvos.

Only one hit point of damage, but they're guided (unlike the Lasers).

We've worn him down to 1,900 tons.

It's almost always the Spinal Mount ships that knock out the tanks... either a Sabre or a Blaze.

They're probably the only ones who can routinely penetrate the armor.

Ten of our twenty-three ships are now hors-de-combat due to lack of spare parts.

We probably have a hundred thousand spare parts right here in Lalande 21185... but we'll have to take a break from the bombardment in order to transfer them.

Four of our ten Sabres (and all eight of our Gauss PD escorts) have run out of spares, and I have withdrawn them from the bombardment force and sent them back to the Tender.

I doubt your fleet expected to have to do anything like this.
Let's call it "live fire exercise"

Btw, are you still clicking through single 5-second increments at a time or are you forcing it to use larger increments?

Five seconds at a time. I'm trying to avoid actually running OUT of spares, because that breaks the gun.

Instead I'm catching each gunship just as it uses the last set of spares that leave it one breakdown short of a permanent malfunction.

We're learning a lot. I wish I knew why my Infantry aren't attacking...

EDIT:

Our General class gunship ESN Marshal Murat is down to 27% spares, and has broken off the bombardment to reprovision from the Whetstone.

The Whetstone class FAC tender will reach the Gunship ESN Marshal Murat in three more minutes, and reprovisioning can begin.

The four Sabres withdrawn from the bombardment force will reach their Mountain class tenders in another 20 minutes.

It sounds like a short interval, but at 5-second turns...

So many ships have run out of spares that the strength of our bombardment is much reduced.

I'm considering breaking off the bombardment entirely to replenish the spares on all Spinal Mount ships, then resuming fire.

The benefit of breaking off entirely is that I could take much longer turns, and replenish in a few mouse clicks.

I suggest breaking off that's preferable to repairing ships. Anyway guess we need large MSP supplying vessels for long orbital bombardment, or for any long continues military operations.

Brought lots of parts with us. Maybe a hundred thousand.

It's just a matter of calling a pause to transfer them to the fighting ships.

Should we pause the bombardment and resupply from our Tenders?

We've brought the fleet in close enough that we can try our point defense missiles.

Only one factor each, but they rarely miss.

Mmmm... every shot is a hit, and every hit is "no effect".

About what I expected. We'll try a few more slavos. We aren't short of PD missiles.

So... 144 missiles fired, almost all hit... four units killed. All small stuff like Infantry or ATGM.

Useful, but only marginally so.

Resupply continues.

I don't see anything to indicate that we're shooting back.

The Sabres are back in action.

EDIT:

Three armored vehicles knocked out since the Sabres rejoined. Down to 1,700 tons.

I just had a thought.
- Beam weapons have low accuracy, but do little damage to the planet
- Missiles cause nuclear fallout, but have high accuracy

How does this picture look for laser warheads? I presume they have the same accuracy as regular missiles, but do they also damage the planet in the same way?
Beams also have the benefit of being usable in a direct fire support role, if you equip some of your units with FFD (Forward Fire...Directors? Direction? Something along those lines). These can be used to call down shots from any beam-capable ships or ground-support fighters with the orders "Provide Orbital Bombardment Support". I'm not sure if they get accuracy bonuses, however; it appears the server running the forums and wiki is down, and I haven't experimented at all with ground combat.

EDIT:

What is their Field Position set to in the Ground Forces display?
