What's the current state of the red army? How many div's have they got? And are you gonna open a second front in the south through Persia? Great job BTW!!

How much did you build up your industry in the very beginning? And Markiep, in crisimans last post he said that the red army has about 200 divs.

@Crisisman: good job :)

What does your other research screens look like?

You're gonna need more manpower man.

Good luck! ;)

Van't you put a "man of the people" and/or "school of mass combat" leader in place to increase manpower?

January 29, 1941 : V. Mountain Corps has arrived in Zinder.

February 2, 1941 : Germany declared war on Saudi Arabia. We quickly won victories in Dammam and Jawf. The USA also made a critical vote today. At Roosevelt's urging, the US Congress voted to be prepared for war with Germany and prepate their economy to be the "Arsenal of Democracy." One more ominous rumble from beyond Greenland. Hitler wonders to himself how long his good fortune will last.

February 6, 1941 : We won a battle against Saudi Arabia in Medina.

February 9, 1941 : VI. Mountain Corps has arrived in Tamale.

February 10, 1941 : Having noticed a few submarine attacks on convoys running between the british isles and the continent, Raeder dispatched a fleet for ASW duty. He stumbled on a UK wolfpack and dispatched the 3rd Submarine Flotilla(SS), 5th Submarine Flotilla(SS), 7th Submarine Flotilla(SS).

February 11, 1941 : The 11th of February started out as a nice late winter day. In Africa, Bassari was occupied. In Arabia, the Marines took the beaches in Sanaa. In Moskow, however, all was not well. Stalin had finally finished repairing the damage to his army from the bloody campaign in Finland. Having maintained a cold distance for the last year, Stalin's temper flared. "We will not sit by until the snow melts and let the Germans choose when and where to attack! We must open hostilities while they are still busy elsewhere. We have 30 tank divisions. Let us use them!" His staff, of course, did not argue with Uncle Joe when he was in such moods. Therefore, they dutifully followed instructions and sent the following communique to the world press.

EFFECTIVE 11 FEBRUARY 1941, A STATE OF WAR EXISTS BETWEEN THE UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS AND THE GERMAN REICH. Similar statements came from the ambassadors of Mongolia and Tannu Tuva.

Hitler was taking a bath with Eva when he was disturbed by an insistent knock at the door. Quite displeased with the interruption of his favorite vice, Hitler replied, "This better be important, or you will not live to regret it!" With that the door opened and an ashen faced Ribbentrop held out two white items. The first, a towel for Eva. The second, a copy of the declaration of war. He looked at Hitler and said, "Mein Fuhrer, the Soviet Union declared war upon us!" Hitler immediately rose, forgetting his nakedness. "Call a meeting of the Cheifs of Staff at once." We must decide our course of action without delay." Ribbentrop replied, "I have already done so. They are waiting for you even now."

Wrapped in his robe and slippers, Adolph entered the staff room to a hail of salutes and cries of "Sieg Heil!" He motioned for all to be seated. First things first, General Guderian, what is the word from the front? Coming to attention, Guderian explained that a few small attacks had taken place, but were quickly turned back by concentrated defensive action by the border infantry. The Russian armor is numerous, but spread along the whole front. We are capable of dealing with small armored formations without trouble. In Arabia, it will be some time before our panzers can complete the conquest. We were not planning to start operations against the USSR until April.

Hitler turned to the rest of the staff and asked about the rest of the forces. Raeder indicated the Baltic Fleet could commence operations at any time, but the Kriegsmarine was engaged in activities around Arabia and would be unavailable to help in the Black Sea until the current operation is completed. Goering reports the Luftwaffe is ready for action. He has already given the order for the Condors to begin patrolling the Baltic and Black seas for any sign of Russian naval activity, and to attack without pause. He also indicated that a number of dogfights have occurred over the front, but that the Bf.109G are proving superior to the LaGG-3. The Ju-88 are on call to support any sectors which come under serious attack.

"Very well," says Hitler, "We are not ready for offensive operations and the frozen ground will help us hold the line until we are. We will continue as planned. As soon as Arabia is secure send all forces to their starting positions. Beginning 1 April I want regular ground condition updates. As soon as conditions permit, we attack. In the meantime, we will make some personnel changes to increase our ability to draft foreign nationals. We will hold off reinforcing units and build up what reserves of manpower we can for later. Keep me posted gentlemen and pray Roosevelt is not as impatient as Stalin."

Later that day, the Luftwaffe reported having spotted the Russian Baltic and Black Sea fleets. In both cases the forces were attacked in force. Within hours all 3 old BB were at the bottom. It was a textbook case of large, well trained air attack against old surface warships with little AA protection and no air cover.

February 13, 1941 : Yemen are now part of our nation! Mountaineers arrive in Sokoto.

February 14, 1941 : Seeing that the German front easily withstood Stalin's initial attacks, Stalin made a bold move and ordered lage quantities of soviet industry moved to Siberia. Mountaineers took Siguiri.

February 21, 1941 : Mountaineers took Parakou and Kaduna. Marines landed in Mascate.

February 22, 1941 : We won a battle against Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.

February 23, 1941 : Oman is annexed. We defeated Saudi forces in Jawf. The Heer announced the service entry of the PzKpfw.IV. Funds are allocated to upgrade more Panzer Divisions to this new and powerful tank.

March 21, 1941 : VI. Mountain Corps has arrived in Kankan.

March 28, 1941 : The Panzers roll into Riyadh. Saudi Arabia are now part of our nation! Immediately, Guderian orders the Panzers on the first trains for Turkey. Mountaineers take Accra.

April 2, 1941 : The pesky allied forces have landed in Aden. Marines are dispatched to re-invade. The weather report indicates ground conditions in Western USSR are still largely frozen, and where not frozen mud prevails.

April 9, 1941 : V. Mountain Corps has arrived in Maroua. The weather report indicates less frozen ground, but even more mud.

April 11, 1941 : The UK troops in Aden attacked Sanaa, but our infantry there beat off the attack, buying time for the Marines to arrive.

April 12, 1941 : IV. Mountain Corps has arrived in Ibadan.

April 17, 1941 : II. Mountain Army HQ has arrived in Porto-Novo.

April 23, 1941 : The Marines have retaken Aden. The weather report indicates the frozen conditions are now completely melted away, but that the entire western USSR is a giant bog.

April 25, 1941 : The Kriegsmarine caught the offending allied naval forces fleeing Aden. It was found that the forces were a mixture of Canadian and New Zealanders. We sank the NZ 4th Transport Flotilla(TP) and 5th Transport Flotilla(TP). We sank the Canadian Destroyer Flotilla 3(DD) and 'Prince Henry' Flotilla(TP).

April 28, 1941 : VI. Mountain Corps has arrived in Abidjan.

April 30, 1941 : We have lost control over Fianarantsoa to United Kingdom. Madagascar is now completely in UK hands. Hitler brushes that news aside and focuses on the Soviet Union. The latest weather report indicates that the mud is beginning to dry out. Conditions are rapidly becoming favorable for attack. Hitler is pleased.

A final report of forces indicates the Heer has a total of 13 Armies on the Eastern Front. 9 Infantry, 2 Panzer, 1 Pz.Gr, 1 Moutaineer. 3 Infantry Armies make up Army Group Center and hold the main line of the Polish Border. Army Group North consists of 3 Inf, 1 Pz and 1 PzGr Armies. They are positioned from the former Baltic States through Finland. Army Group South consists of 3 Inf, 1 Pz and 1 Mtn Armies. They are positioned in former Romania and Turkey. The Italian, in a bold move, have thrown a wrench in the plans. With the UK well in hand, Il'Duce has landed north of Sevastopol and has the entire isthmus under his control save for Sevastopol itself. The original plan had been to form one gigantic double envelopment. AGN driving southeast from Leningrad and east of Moskow and AGS driving north out of Turkey through Stalingrad to link up hundreds of miles behind the front line. AGC would simply hold down as many divisions as possible along the Minsk-Kiev line while the jaws closed. With Il'duces bold move, Hitler must reconsider. He wants to seal off Italy's enclave from the rest of the front before it grows too large, robbing Germany of the resources of the Ukraine. With this in mind, he orders the 6 new Panzer Divisions(equipped with Pz.IV) to Romania. Their orders are to drive east, south of Kiev, and link up with the Marines who will be driving NW from Turkey to link up in Rostov. It is hoped this will limit Italy's gains while simultaneously trapping a few soviet divisions. Hitler approves the ammended plan and the staff leaves for the front.

And now it gets really exciting :D

The Bear in the East and (maybe) the Eagle in the West

May 1941 - The jaws open wide

May 2, 1941 : All forces are given their final orders. Operation Barbarrosa is a go! Luftwaffe aircraft fill the pre-dawn skies. Kriegsmarine ships train thier guns towards shoreward targets. At dawn, infantry and panzers begin their steady march forward, sweeping the enemy before them. Breakthroughs are rapidly achieved in Kandalaksja, Mogilev Podolski, Yerevan, Batum, Balta, Tblisi, Murmansk, Pskov, Polotsk, Viipuri and Opochka.

May 10, 1941 : I. Marine Army HQ has finished unloading in Batum. We won a battle against Soviet Union in Tuapse.

May 11, 1941 : We won battles against Soviet Union in Gdov, Cherkassy, Vinnitsa and Leningrad. Marines landed in Archangelsk. Hitler is exstatic about the fall of Leningrad.

May 12, 1941 : Soviet Union went with Destroy the dam in Donetz flooding. We won a battle against Soviet Union in Poltava.

May 13, 1941 : We won battles against Soviet Union in Petrozavodsk, Nalchik and Volkhov.

May 15, 1941 : We won battles against Soviet Union in Sumy, Kirovabad and Kola.

May 16, 1941 : IV. Marine Corps has arrived in Mezen, sealing off the Soviet NW coast. We won battles in Segezha, Grozny, Voroshilovsk and Novorossisk. The KM engaged the remnants of the Black Sea Fleet in the Southeast Black Sea. The following ships were sunk Profintern(CL), Chervonaya Ukraina(CL), Pamiat Merkuriya(CL).

May 17, 1941 : We won another battle against Soviet Union in Southeast Black Sea. This time against their remaining submarine forces. The following ships were sunk 11. Flotiliya Podlodok(SS), 24. Flotiliya Podlodok(SS), 25. Flotiliya Podlodok(SS). We also won a battle in Makhachkala.

May 29, 1941 : We won battles against Soviet Union in Belgorod and Rostov. The link is nearly made around the Italian bastion. Mountaineers also take Lagos.

May 30, 1941 : We lost a battle against Soviet Union in Volodga. The infantry in that area are overstretched. A temporary rest is called while the infantry army from the Kola peninsula moves in to bolster the drive towards Moskow.

June 1, 1941 : We won a battle against Soviet Union in Rybinsk. Hitler can barely contain his glee at reports of the lights from Moskow being visible at night. Will the main forces arrive in time to take the city before it digs in? It is a race against time. Reports from the logistics specialists indicate that Germany is also reaching the limit of her transport capacity. The simultaneous gains in Russia and West Africa are taking their toll. Hitler hopes he can make it to Sverdlovsk so he can annex european russia and consolidate his gains.

So if i interpret what you wrote correctly, you now got a compassionate gentlemen in charge of security? Seems like a good idea in your situation.

&

Nice going!!

This is brilliant stuff! Crush the commies!

Are you not reinforcing since your manpower is rising?

Have you managed to destroy soviet planes and divisions entirely? How many?

Seems like you are finally paying for your little trip into Africa and the Middle East, although that will likely not be enough to stop you.

Exactly. No reinforcement to build up a reserve. Not having a reserve has messed up my production schedule. I have also trimmed out some of the high MP units from the build que to lower my MP demand.

By 1 June 41 I had managed to destroy 4 air units completely, plus about 30 land divisions trapped in small pockets in the Kola Peninsula, Baku, Dnepropetrovsk and Leningrad. On my side, 4 fighters and 4 Tactical bombers are sitting it out due to excessive casualties.(Leningrad had a ton of AA) My land units are mostly still 90%+ strength, so I'm not panicking about my losses, yet. The tool tip tells me I need 65 MP to replace my losses.

Can you fill us in on the command structure of your armies ? That is, the ranks of the generals that command. Also, can you please tell me how you manage to keep battles under the command limit ? In one army (9 divs) you have 3 coprs of 3 divs right ? And so one commander must be a full general, or else your army is going to be other the command limit in battle if commanded by a Lt.General. Is that what you did Or is there an alternative way ?

Each "Army" consists of 12 divisions organized in 4 corps of 3 divisions each. The HQ corps is one HQ division and two regular divisions commanded by a Field Marshal. Of the other 3 corps, one is a General and the other two Lt. Generals.

A HQ unit doubles your effective command limit, so with this setup I can even put two Armies together if I want to.

The General is in there so that I can stack two units without one having to be the HQ.

Germany has more than enough leaders to do this. You will have to promote a lot of them, however.

Yeah, that was the problem. At least for me. When you start promoting leaders right from the start what you get is a bunch of skill 2 FM's and similair skilled generals ;) So there has to be a transitory period.

Your command structure is excellent. Do you keep the HQs behind the combat lines or throw them in as well like some people do ?

BTW, Hitler going to a meeting in slippers and bathrobe was just hilarious

EDIT Oh sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I guess you must use HQs in combat after all...

Hey Guys,
I am Personally disgraced by Stalin in that he is losing this war.
He Shall Spend The Rest Of His Days Countig Trees!!!(exile to Siberia)
Although my game is very similar to this EXCEPT reversed. Lets just say that the Riech has lost 70+ divisions and Hitler shot himself 5 years early:rolleyes:
Though I would like to know how stalin got stomped.

So far your ARR is a text book example of how to make western Europe grey. Going to be interesting to see how you juggle your lack of manpower ... also have to hope the US stays neutral long enough for you to finish up with Russia. If the Americans show up in your back yard, its going to make things tough. Looking foward to your next update!

@Crisisman:
I would love to know the details of how you produced your units. I tried to follow your example, but I simply did not see how I could squeeze more out of my IC's. Probably set my policy sliders different, but I would love to know exactly :)

I managed pretty well, despite this. Roughly three quarters of the RN lies at the bottom of the English channel, Biscaya Bay and Nothern Sea thanks to your naval buildup plan :D

For political sliders, getting your controlled economy for a full 25% boost to IC, and your full Hawk for a full -20% to both time and cost are key.

For ministers, I look for silent workhorses, industrial specialists, and other similar types that either increase IC or reduce common unit costs(inf/tank/tac/ftr). I also look to reduce consumer goods demand.

I was also helped in my slider settings by a few nice random events. A few notches change for free makes a HUGE difference.

For IC sliders I underproduced supplies(just enough to keep from losing strength), I only barely covered my CG(unless I had dissent to remove), and I turned off both upgrades and reinforcements.

In order to keep my tech teams paid, I traded for the extra cash. Trades are also good for keeping supplies happy while spending IC elsewhere.

In research, I always prioritize investments first. That means techs which reduce cost/time of units, increase research speed, and increase IC. When I finally get to the assembly line techs, I mad rush them. They make a huge difference in pumping out units.

In unit production, I usually set up serial runs of 99. That way I get the most out of the gearing bonus. When I have enough of a unit, then I cancel it. Also, I build the cheapest version of everything until I reach my number goals. It's relatively easy to upgrade them later on.

Now, having said all this, if I were to restart today, I'd make probably two changes. First, I think I'd go for drafted army slider instead of standing. I found the experience bonus isn't such a big deal. The gearing bonus is more important. Second, I'd get the compassionate gentleman in there ASAP. I didn't realize how short manpower would run. Getting more as early as possible is the way I'll go in the future.

Now...where was I...ahhhh...the reflections of ack-ack bursts off the spires of Moskow on a warm summer's night...such a beautiful sight in June.
