I've tried it a couple of times, but it still doesn't work. It all seems needleslly complicated. :( Are there any scenarios out there that use an auto-installer?

Yep, Mes. But you really should try 476 as it is good fun.

Lofmann this is a job well done altough I got the feeling Europe (except for England) is a bit empty, maybe insert some countries but where there more.

A small update report (so you know I've atleast done something :D ). These things will be included in v1.04
Firstly I have added a 526 scenario, so now it is possible to start with Ostrogoths in Italy and Visigoths having lost their French lands except Septimania. It doesn't correspond 100% with the 476 start, but those things that can't be achieved doesn't give anyone an unfair advantage I hope (it is just that Langobards and Bavaria have moved their capitals and that land and naval levels are higher then one can hope to acheive in the 476 start, but that is more thanks to that land and naval levels in 476 is lower then the expected levels in land.csv and naval.csv, while the 526 levels are more or less those expected).

Secondly shields now uses a new template made by Birger Jarl and more countries have new shields and flags, for more information see the 476 graphics thread.

There are also some other minor things such a fixed monarch id conflict in monarchs.mch (Wei) but now to some work.

The whole Wei-Tang thing is not yet done, but now I have given Tang the TAN tag. Now how should this thing be handled? What we have in China (ignoring the minors near the Tibetan border).
Countries
- Nanjing (CHI), represents the rather short-lived dynasties in the south, should stay as it is.
- Wei (MCH), needs to have event(s) to divide it into Western and Eastern Wei
- Tang (TAN), needs to appear at some time.
- Sui, united China perhaps let Tang represent Sui? Or one of Eastern and Western Wei? Or should it have its own Tag, note that it wasn't a long-lived dynasty.
- Northern Zhou. Takes over Western and Eastern Wei (which is at that time is Northern Qi) in 557 and is succeeded by Sui in 581. Should probably share whatever Tag represents Sui.
- Western Wei. Western Wei and succeeding dynasties up until Sui takes over. Use Wei (or Tang), or let it have its own tag?
- Eastern Wei. As above.
Events
- Two for Wei, one moving capital to Louyang, and one making it richer, both before 500.
Revolt.txt
- Nothing
Monarchs.
- For Nanjing, Wei (includes the monarchs for Western Wei(534-557), Northern Zhou (557-581) and Sui (581-618) ), Tang.
Monarchs needed for Eastern Wei (534-550) and Northern Qi (550-557) unless I'm mistaken.
Leaders.
- No military leaders at this time.

Great news! Thanks for all the work. I really ought to play this scenario :) (haven't actually run it since the first ever version, oops). I like 526 much better as a start date.

Problems playing 476 v1.4

I am trying to play the 476 scenario for the first time with EU II v1.07. I followed the instructions posted here and installed v1.04. But when I try to start it by clicking the shortcut i get a repeating message box saying "error in DB and giving me the option of "abort, retry or ignore" ..... When I click abort i get the a message box with the title "Microsoft Visual C++ Run time library" and the message "Program: progam files/strategy first/etc......." and "abnormal error". Can you tell me if I am doing something wrong or should I try an earlier version.

If you have EU II v1.07 you have to use v1.02 of this scenario since those later has been updated to EU II v1.08 which added a number of country tags, and some of them are also being used (although the problem is that the tags are mentioned in the country.csv, and with v1.07 the game doesn't accept those tags).

Cheers.

It says in the readme that I can play the mod like I play any other "moddir". This may sound as a stupid question, but that is a "moddir"?

I un-zipped the 476 scn into my main EU II folder, but only a seperate folder with 476 stuff in it have popped up, like leaders, events and stuff. No icon I can press to play or anything. Can anyone help me?

Cheers, DK

When You are running "plain vanilla" EU2, You have it installed (maybe) in dir C:\Europa Universalis II\.
(And the program: C:\Europa Universalis II\EU2.EXE.)

Files like province.csv can be found in C:\Europa Universalis II\DB\province.csv, the scenario files is found in C:\Europa Universalis II\Scenarios etc.

The shortcut at Your desktop contains: "C:\Europa Universalis II\EU2.EXE".

When using moddir, e g for 476 , You have all files belonging to 476 placed like this:

C:\Europa Universalis II\476\DB\province.csv and
C:\Europa Universalis II\476\Scenarios\...

And the shortcut (for 476) contains "C:\Europa Universalis II\EU2.EXE C:\Europa Universalis II\476"
or (reported also working): C:\Europa Universalis II\EU2.EXE 476".

EU2.EXE search in this case first the 476 dir for all game files, and if a file is not found, loads the file from the normal dirs.

So, the solution is to copy the old shortcut and add "476" after ...\EU2.EXE.
