Yes, because you can't possibly enable fileextensions in the explorer options.

Everytime I install a Windows (either due to a formatted HD or simply because I have purchased a newer version) I emmediatly enable fileextensions. I hate not having them!

Hi, I am new here and recently downloaded your mod and managed to install it (correctly I hope) however when I try to run one of your campaigns I get an arror reading
"Couldn't open file: .aoi\db\events\major_akk.txt"
The game then crashes giving me the the report of a Ddhelp error.
Any idea what's wrong?

I think ddhelp is something related to directx. I have no idea why you get that error though. My suggestion is that you reinstall directx.

Okay, I've read the posts, but I can't figure out how to get past the error message to install the mod ...

How does one "access the DOS terminal" to rename? I'm not that computer savvy.

I have Windows XP, btw.

Thanks for help!

Just use Windows Explorer, no need for DOS. You just gotta make sure that you can see all extensions, by selecting this in the settings, and then change the *.zip extension into *.exe.

Many thanks, Hive, I'll give that a shot ...

Hive,

Many thanks, I've got it up and running and have played through nearly four times now. AoI that is. It's great!

Couple of questions ... really just for my own edification more than any solution. Two things seem to consistently happen in the AI during the game:

1) France repeatedly goes bankrupt starting about 1/4 into the game of AoI scenario ... I mean, repeatedly. Almost every decade or less it tanks and doesn't seem to be able to break the cycle. It happens every time.

2) the US isn't able to defeat the CSA and ends up settling.

In fact, in the second item, I decided to try and experiment and before 1860, I arranged a royal marriage, military access, and a military alliance with the US (I was playing Britain). When the event hit, I moved tons of troops into the South from Canada (LOL) and helped the US Yankee troops stomp the Rebs into submission ... over and over and over and over ... it got to be the late 1870s and the revolt risk was still 30% and with no end in sight, I pulled out and let the US deal with it itself. Sure to form, the CSA formed and the US settled almost immediately.

Is there anyway for the AI to defeat the South?

Just curious ...

Other than that, I LOVE the mod. Except that despite my best economic efforts (including putting every available improvement in Wollongong) I can't keep one of my COTs in Sydney ... it begins in Macquairie, finally moved to Wollongong for awhile, and then as soon as I started to colonize New Zealand, it moved there (despite the fact that Wollongong was the only fully developed city and had the highest economic value)!

Hey Goring, I'm glad you like my mod. I'll try yoanswer your questions as good as I can:

1) I haven't noticed that, and I can't do anything about it I'm afraid. France has almost no troops from the beginning and a high tax value, so it's a mystery to me why they go bankrupt. But it's nothing I can cahnge, it's just the AI that's too stuppid I'm afraid.

2) I may have to give the North a bit more manpower, but the thing is that if I do that then a human USA would have a way too easy time defeted the CSA. I have created an event that annexes CSA into USA and will fire if CSA doesn't any of their cores in war against USA. It doesn't happen right away, but might take some days.

I have made such a high revolt risk to ensure that the CSA will most likely form, so that the war has to be fought instead of just the boring rebel bashing.

As to the CoT thingie, that's nothing in my mod either. It's a result of the new CoT rules, meaning that if there are not enough competition in a CoT it will dissapear.

I hope these answers where good enough, feel free to ask again anytime. ;)

Error Message

Heya, Hive,

It's me again! LOL. I'm becoming a pest, I know. I've been playing the game pretty successfully except for some CTD problems later in the game (in the 1880's).

However, I went to install the game on my work computer (long story, lol, but I have to be there a lot lately with not much to do), every thing installed fine, apparently, but when I got to run any scenario, it almost loads then I get the following message:

ERROR: Illegal Command. type=removecot=496 file = aoi\db\events\major_dan.txt

Obviously a Danish event, but I don't know why I'm getting it and never got it on my home computer? Both are running XP.

Anyone?

Don't worry, you're not a pest. It's actuallnice that someone keeps bumping this thread.:D

Anyway... as to the CTD's, I'm fully aware of them. I'ts caused by some ID conflicts, and I will fix it when I get the time.

And the error message sounds to me like you have forgotten to install the 1.07 patch.

If that's not it, feel free to ask again.;)

Hmmmm ... nope, that's not it. I wasn't positive, so just to make sure I reinstalled the 1.07 patch, the beta patch, and both of your mod patches, and I'm still getting the same error.

Can't for the life of me figure out what's going on.

Ah, well ... it works okay on my home system, but it's wierd since they're similar and made both by Dell and both new. Just wish I knew.

Thanks anyway, Hive!

That sounds really strange... I wish I could help you further, but I really can't.:(

Are you absolutely positive that you installed the both 1.07 and the latest beta patch correct?

Yah, as positive as I can be. Both automatically installed once I downloaded them and I test ran it before installing the mod ... it sure is wierd.

I may reinstall the entire game and try again just to see. It's so strange, 'cause I'm playing just fine on my home computer. So odd ...

Dunno what it is then, sorry. But at least you can play at home, you should maybe consider doing something else at work. Like working perhaps?:D

Work? Bah! C'mon, man ... cut me some slack. What do you think I am? Productive or something?

;)

Hey, btw, is there any event for the US that gets Texas? The Mexican-American War perhaps?

Rename it to *.exe.
