1600-1650 or something might be enough.. I just imagined someone gaining requisite in 1629 and loosing it in 1635 once truce was over, but get to keep italian forever..

Actually, another time span where it would be viable to have this event in is 1632-1647, the internal turmoil period.

I like the Doukas booster events, Byak. Now all the Byzantium needs is some Swedish-style manpower and tax value boosting events. Seriously. :)

AD boosted start values very recently, so I think that is under control now. ;)

I know. I'm just a tad greedy when it comes to showering the Byzantine Empire with goodies. In retrospect, its probably fortunate I'm not directly responsible for setting them up in Abe. :)

Byakhaim -- a quick question. The Doukas booster events and Genoa-friendly Byzantium events (everything shown on this thread page) are not in the latest patch are they? I'm kind of wondering why my Genoa event doesn't seem to be inviting the Empire into Italy. :)

Well no. :( Take the DL link few posts back and manually put the file into place to have them before AD posts new version. I sent them to AD after publishing of 0.90.

I will put up a version up for you two in some secs, so you can recheck if you got all right.

Byakhiam

Here's the first couple of event-prototypes, Byak. Feel free to critique or alter them to your heart's content.

Code:
event = {
	id = 201942
	trigger = {
		owned = { province = 479 data = -1 }
	}
	random = no
	country = BYZ
	name = "The Naval Garrison of Naxos"
	desc = "The rapid rise of Italian naval power during the mid-15th
century was a subject of unease for the ruling court of the Byzantine Empire.
Their oftimes rival, the Republic of Genoa had expressed interest in expanding
their influence into the Crimea and there was justifiable concern in the courts
of the empire about raid or invasion from the sea. In response to these
perceived threats, the Emperor eventually sponsored the construction of a
naval base on the island of Naxos to protect the Aegean sea from hostile
invasion."

#Could possibly add a land tech trigger or make the event AI-only
event = {
	id = 201943
	random = no
	country = BYZ
	name = "Formation of the Auxilia"
	desc = "For much of the middle-ages, the military culture of the
Byzantium had grown increasingly feudal in order to preserve the realm. The
establishment of themes commanded by regional landholders (Themata)
brought the Empire into close parallel with the largely manorial latin Europe.
With the Themata filling the vast ranks of the Imperial armies and Akritai
(border barons, margravines, etc.) responsible for defending the frontiers, the
only armies personally available to the Emperor were his small but disciplined
personal armies (Tagma). The emergence of firearms in the late 15th century
began to push the age-old military system of the Empire into obsolesence, as
the research and manufacture of such weapons was beyond the means of
petty landholders. To meet the new demands of the renessaince, the
Emperor sought to establish a robust Auxillia, much like that used by the late
Western Empire, but unlike its predecessor, the Byzantine Auxilia was to be
primarily responsible for the deployment of muskets and artillery into the
Emperor's army."

date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1495 }
offset = 3650
deathdate = { day = 1 month = january year = 1520 }

	command = { type = stability value = -1 }
	command = { type = domestic which = centralization value = 1 }
	command = { type = domestic which = offensive value = 1 }
	command = { type = land value = 250 }
	}
}

Cheers.

Edit: After much trouble formatting them. Blagh.
Edit2: Edited a description. Made note concerning the second event.

Well, I like them both considering effects. I like the Naval Base in all other ways, but as a nitpick, Palaiologoi are still exiled to Crete during that event's happening period. ;)

The Auxilia event could have, instead of set date, have trigger to fire it when Byza gets LT 7, which first gives access to artillery. LT 7 is likely got in late 15th - early 16th anyway and triggering it with tech would also reward Byza for going land tech.

I got a bit confused about the Palaiologoi there for a moment. I forgot that, while there are pro- and con- Genoa Palaiologoi, they are *all* denziens of Krete due to their exile after the Empire's last big power struggle.

As for the Auxilia, it is supposed to represent an intensified effort to develop and deploy more modern equipment. Making it fire only after the Byzantine Empire has already accomplished this would kind of defeat the purpose. In pure gameplay terms, it doesn't help them (AI or human) get over the Land 7 hump.

Final say is up to you though, Byak.

A quick question regarding the Byzantium and their sphere of influence: Did we switch Antalya to turkish culture when we made Kastamonu greek? Or is it being turkish an error?

Hmm, well, let's put it with a date then.

Antalya became turkish when Kastamonu became greek, yes.

I'm just a little nervous since I found a bunch of berber provinces had vanished. Don't read anything into this question. :)

Here's some more event ideas:

Code:
event = {
	id = 201944
	trigger = {
		owned = { province = 476 data = -1 } # Angora
		owned = { province = 482 data = -1 } # Konya
		owned = { province = 1610 data = -1 } # Antalya
		owned = { province = 1611 data = -1 } # Taurus
	}
	random = no
	country = BYZ
	name = "Employment of Turkish Troops"
	desc = "After the Turkish tribes fell once more under Imperial rule
the prospect of employing their vanquished foes as mercenary hirelings began
to gain traction within the courts of the Empire. The use of foreign
mercenaries in the army, particularly as cavalry, was a venerable tradition in
the Byzantium, and a new occupation was desperately needed for the
martially inclined turks. While there were obvious benefits to employing the
Turkish Sipahi in the Emperor's Tagma, some right-thinking Greeks were not
enamoured with the idea of allowing too many barbarians into the capital. A
realistic alternate would be to relegate the turks to guarding the frontiers of
the empire and giving them Imperial dispensation to raid neighboring enemies -
- in essence joining the Turkish Ghazi with the Empire's own Akritai."

	date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1420 }
	offset = 3650
	deathdate = { day = 1 month = january year = 1620 }

	command = { type = provincemanpower which = 1611 value = 1 }
             }
}

I decided to move the manpower bonuses on the above event because I realized that option B would be far superior if the human player was intending to pursue Manuel's dynasty. This way, the difference in manpower between A and B is not as significant.

Like many born again into another religion, Angelucca was fiercely devoted to
his faith, but unlike many uncompromising believers, he was also a man of
peace. Coming to the court of the Byzantine Emperor near the turn of the
16th century, Bishop Angelucca proposed a benevolent mission into the
heathen lands ruled by the Empire. The holy man was so persuasive that he
was eventually able to convince the Emperor to support his aims. In the
following years, Baselious did much to spread learning, tolerance and the true
faith amongst the non-believers."

This event is pretty much all good and more or less how we discussed it.

Here are the Patriarch of Antioch events. As far as I know, there hasn't been a definate decision on what to do about Syrian culture, if anything is going to be done at all. Nikolai and I like the idea of expanding Syrian culture and making the acquisition of it a regional prize. Byakhiam is neutral. Kaigon dislikes the idea.

In order for these events to work, Lebanon and Syria should be made syrian culture in addition to Aleppo remaining so.

Code:
# Original idea devised by Mad King James

of once belonging to the Eastern Roman Empire. In addition to having been
citizens, the syrian culture also supported one of the Orthodox Church's most
important figures, the Patriarch of Antioch. Just as the subordination of the
Patriarchs in Jerusalem, Antioch and Alexandria had once elevated their
counterparts in Constantinople and Rome, the recovery of Antioch now gave
the Byzantine Empire increased importance in the Christian world. Although it
would undoubtedly involve making concessions, winning the support of the
Patriarch of Antioch would certainly gain the Empire widespread support in
Syria."

crusaders, the Patriarch of Antioch had finally been liberated from indignity.
Unfortunately for the Patriarch, he had been liberated by the Caliph. Allowing
the Patriarch to keep his position and carefully husbanding his support with
fine gifts could easily win the Caliph a wide-spread acceptance in Syria. Such
a compromise was acceptable, as the Koran itself encouraged tolerance of
the 'People of the Book'. On the other hand, the Patriarch of Antioch had long
supported the crusader states that plagued the people of Islam for
generations. Stripping him of his titles could be seen as both just and
profitable."

The event ID I used for the Caliphate version of the event is currently used by the existing turkish migration event. The two events would probably be mutually exclusive, so doing a substitution makes some sense.

Well, I like them all, so if AD is fine with them, we can add them. Should I do some copy-pasting from here into major_byz and send to AD or would you do so?

Either way is fine with me. Although I am going to be sending AD a large, and hopefully final, update for Granada and Genoa. So maybe I should do the addition and just send everything at once? But then again, bombing Archduke with e-mails can be quite entertaining. :)

The Antioch events will have to wait for approval from AD also. I'll update the balance thread.

I am cool with the events, only the missionary for byzantium should cost a bit and have an option b, no?

Or is a big, big goodie event? Then add a bit of infra I would say.:)

Else, two thumbs up.

200 ducats and B option with "Nevermind that", +1 stability?
