Crusader Kings 2 - The Road of Queens
Chapter One Thousand-One-Hundred-Thirteen : China IS Back And The Best Match
This chapter opens in late September, of the year 950 AD, with the Empress noticing her Spymaster in Lhatse was kind of just wasting his time.
So he was recalled back to the Capital to keep a look at for any plots being made against her.
Also one of her Wards has finally become a woman. Bhogavati of the House Pala is now a legal adult and her education has come to an end.
She turned out to be a Mastermind Theologian. And good with money. She’ll make a wonderful wife for her future husband.
Then there was bad news from China. Seems they had gotten their act together and had even declared war on Kashmir. And won. Which was amazing because nobody had even noticed the conflict. It must have happened in the background while the Empress was busy.
The Empress was a little worried that the Chinese Empire was a player again. But she had other issues to focus on at the moment.
For example there was news from Lanka. The Great King Theophylaktos was dead. And all evidence suggested he had been murdered. Dun-dun-dun!
And his eldest son was now the Ruler. And the NEW Great King’s first actions was to reform his Royal Council. Or at least pick two new members.
Had he killed his father? Unlikely. Maybe his Mom had done it? Mothers were known to kill husbands to put their children in power. But there was no evidence.
And there was a few problems with him now being on the throne. He was only 10 years old and while his mother was his educator he had a bad opinion of the Empress.
Also his Regent had a claim over the Kingdom. As he was also a member of the same Dynasty and the same Family. Oh, not good. And was nicknamed “The Cruel”. Another bad sign. Also the Religious Authority didn’t like him. So many bad signs. Could HE had killed the Great King? More likely but, once again, hard to prove.
With the coming of the new year her Heir, her granddaughter Simonis, came of age. And for some reason the arranged marriage her mother had set up fell apart. Maybe because she was ugly and a book worm? Men!
And the NEW Great King of Lanka had no arranged marriage. Surely the Regent of Lanka, who wanted the Realm himself, would never agree to a arranged marriage that would allow the Empire to absorb the Kingdom?
So the Regent agreed to the arranged marriage, or he allowed the young Ruler to agree to it, which was also a Matrilineal Arranged Marriage.
The Empress laughed. And laughed. And laughed.
One of the NEXT Empress’s offspring, a grandchild of the current Empress, would rule both Realms. It might take some time but the Island Kingdom would one day become part of the Empire. Without blood being spilled, no wars, no invasions. It would become part of the Empire due to a marriage.
