I think planets that you start on should have the same thing but at a lower cost. For instance if I start with a ocean preference they'll work better on ocean worlds
That's why you have max Habitability on your homeworld type.

It has to be. Since spiritualists are still the only ones who can research psionics. Still this is cool.

I do wish they had showcased some more of the voice overs. :(

I want to hear the Spiritualist VO!!!!!!!!

You probably change it to the voice over you want at the empire creation screen right?

Actually, Psionics no longer Spiritualist-only in 1.8. They have an easier time with it and psionics still cause major ethics attraction to Spiritualism, though.

Well I suppose it makes sense considering AI rights uniqueness of materialists have also been removed.

I still want to make the ethics more distinct, but the Psionics/AI Rights and Ascension paths seems to be the sort of restrictions that really chafe on people's ability to build the empires they want, so I decided to walk back some of the ethics restrictions.

A machine cult would be spiritualists into tech and robots, not materialists. They would share the materialists' interests, but for completely different reasons.

I mean, it's a neat idea, but in mechanics how would it differ from just playing as materialists? Just turning spiritualists into a carbon copy of materialists doesn't seem like it would add much to the game.

Though they might still be UP. Pampering has increased comsumer good costs. Seeing how easily wiz could destroy his mineral production despite the 20% extra.....

Eh, I was mostly just playing badly there, had far too many biotrophies and too few bots.

They need to look at the V.O. for hiveminds. Why would it be "We have done xyz" when a gestalt conciousness would have no concept of "Us". Would it not be better for the Hive Mind V.O. to say "I have done xyz"?
Simple: Majestic Plural.

Can non-Servitor machine empires use displacement? If they can't, then Servitores are the only ones who could get away with conquest without triggering the rest of the galaxy.

Yes, as long as they're not Exterminators.

Manual purge/disassembly can be done in the following instances:
- You are a Hive Mind (to anyone)
- You are a Machine Intelligence (to any Drone pop)
- The species has the Slavery citizenship type
- The Pop is a Robot, Droid or Synth without citizenship rights

It cannot be done to any species that has any sort of basic rights. The rules for it are moddable though.

A reworked Discovery tradition with really interesting mechanics:
(designed to synergise with traditions and civics that increase leader level caps)
That new perk is really fun and powerful. Finally gave me a reason to max out my leader pool in every game.
It was actually so powerful that it got nerfed twice already.
:D

Is this a change to the general Discovery tree, or just the robotic one? Guess there is no reason to give this boost just to robots.
Everyone can use the new perk.

...aaaaaand it's nerfed! XD
To be fair, even the post-nerf effect you see in the screenshot is preeeeeeeeetty good.
Keep in mind it is a planet yield and thus benefits from your empire unity modifiers!

No, it means they can use Robots as long as they are non sentient, so they can have synths as ling as they have positronic inhibitors to keep them in check.

They can also have Synths in servitude, though the spiritualist faction will be miffed about it. Citizen Rights is the only one that's outright banned for them.

So the only ethic to have an ascension blocked is the spiritualist? Or am I misunderstanding?

No, you can still synthetically ascend with servitude. You just need synths. You're gonna have a lot of issues with materialist attraction and livid factions, but it's possible.

In all fairness, ascension paths were effectively restricted by ethos and this was intentional design as decided by me, until I changed my mind as a result of player feedback. That's the relevant facts and no need to pretend otherwise.

I am sure someone will make a mod to allow you to have robot pops without hive mind.
Shouldn't be all that hard.
I made a little test mod a while ago that turned machine pops into synthetics (including factions, happiness, etc). I am pretty sure you can apply the same to Robots or Machines if necessary.

Wait so basically spiritualist empire can't research AI but they have an AI voice (meaning they have researched it)?
They can research and use AI just fine.
There is a policy that governs your stance on sapient AI (outlawed, servitude, citizen rights) and Robot Workers (outlawed, allowed).
